Dr. Dre Reportedly Receiving Senior Position At Apple

(AllHipHop News) After the $3.2 billion deal in the works between Apple and Beats Electronics was announced last week, reports began to circulate that Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine was offered a job at the technology giant. The Wall Street Journal is now reporting the other Beats head, Dr. Dre, will also take a position at Apple.

While Iovine is reportedly taking on the title of “special advisor” to Apple CEO Tim Cook, Dre’s role in the company is unknown at the time. He is expected to be closely tied to Cook as well.

Industry insiders suspect Apple’s acquisition of Beats will not only add new executives at the company, but may also affect the way music is streamed by users of its devices and how music is purchased via its music store. Beats released their own music streaming service earlier this year.

“Apple could help tip the scales in favor of Beats in two ways. First, the tech giant controls a major platform through which people download streaming apps. An Apple-owned Beats would likely get far better placement in the iTunes Store than its competitors,” writes Joshua Brustein of Bloomberg.

Apple is looking for a mind that can reach the young people. Apple was always known for being one step ahead, because Steve Jobs was a visionary. Tim Cook is not as innovative as Steve Jobs, actually no one is. They are trying to stimulate that company, and push it foreword, maybe this will do just that.

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

lol apple is already very stimulated as a company can get … they are lucky to be where they are @ … and they will need more luck to take them farther than where they have already came … people see the giant they are today … but it took alot of grind to get here WITH JOBS !! … i remember a time where the only apple aka macintosh computers you saw were in a computer classroom @ an elementary school …. no one was buying them for home use @ all … even up to the late 90s early 2000s it was still very rare to see alot of people buying apple products … the iphone is thier savior tho it didnt change the game cause smart phone were OUT long before the iphone but it helped pushed the movement to the forefront …. they grinded along time gained some steam and now they here to the point microsoft seems to play second fiddle even in the PC market …

      • vandyll

Yea that’s pretty much what I said in long form. Jobs made them the staple in homes because he thought outside of the common box. I myself own all Macs not one PC in my house. But they have started to become stagnant with ideas. This merger with beats is an attempt to end that.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

salute took me a while to get off them microsoft based pc’s lol .def a different experience … ive had an apple macbook since about 08 and have yet to get a virus … and it still runs like when i first got it without no real software maintence besides upgrades n patches .. no re-installing … + the last time i updated the os it was free !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Just Curious, I heard this they cost a lot, is that true?

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

apple computers ?? … brand new minimum is @least $1,000 … i purchased my first macbook brand new for about that price base model 13in … but after noticing how good the hardware holds up … i sold my 13in and brought a used 15in fully loaded for the same price lol $1,100 with external wireless keyboard off someone on ebay … so if you are on a budget … just go used … my friend just brought that same 13in that i sold off craigs list used for $375 … the guy originally wanted $450 but he talked him down to the $375 ……

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

but consider this .. no lie prob about every 2 to 3 years i was buying a new dell laptop … and in the midst of that i had to re-install all the software @least 1 to 2 times to keep running GOOD … altho the dell laptops only ran me about $600 @ the most … like i said i was being forced to get a new one every 2 to 3 years … i only sold my 13 inch macbook to get a fully loaded 15inch which i got in 2011 … and runs like when i first got it no issues @ all ……… so paying alot for a computer that will last you forever .. imo is worth the purchase ….. the only prob i had with my macs so far is the software crashed once when i first got it … but that remedied by running time machine … and i had a bad superdrive in my 13in that i installed in my 15in … and in the process of doing that i messed something up that stopped my entire mac book from booting … i worked on it for months and had other tech friends look @ it no one could figure it out .. i ended up going to the apple store paid them a flat $225 and they damn near replaced every piece of hardware in the computer for that price … i was told i was going to need a main board which cost more than $225 by itself .. so even when all else fails apple customer service isnt that shabby and will get you out of that jam …….. and keep in mind this was a laptop i had no warranty on and i brought it used off ebay ….

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Thanks, Guess I can start saving for that.

      • vandyll

Yes sir! You speak the truth. My boy Got a laptop with I think it’s Windows 8. I’m not sure but I haven’t used a pc in so many years, I was totally lost looking at it. Lmao! Shit looked foreign. Once you get used to Macs you never will phuk with a PC again. I don’t even know what virus software is out now. Lmao! #don’t need it

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

if your familar with xbox … windows 8 basically = xbox os look and feel navigation etc .. but you can switch back to the normal desk top we are used to also .. windows 8 imo is more geared towards PCs with touch screen ….

      • vandyll

Not really into games anymore. But I get what your saying.

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Is the Mac better than the PC?

      • vandyll

When you buy a Mac you turn it on its ready to go. No trial software, no boxes popping up adding you questions. Plug it in n go. No virus, OS updates are quick, and they don’t slow down because of unwanted programs running in the background. Honestly it’s not even a comparison.

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

        Thanks!!

      • Skappie

Lot of truth in this…but people are gettign this twisted. Buying beat wont take apple to the next level. Beat will just be one product in their long list of product offerings. If headphones ONLY do well after this but all of their other products lose market share, Apple will go down. Having Dre there migh help the company with additional revenue but then need to keep improving their core products to stay ahead (iPhone, iPad, iPod, MacBook, etc)

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

agreed!! i look @ it like what beats brought to HTC … its just an accessory to thier product … and the fact that they spent 3 billion for it … lol … i dont see this as something thats gonna take thier stock to the $1,000 mark lol no time soon that is … but it is something that will keep it in that mainstream market share apple has right now … something they need cause Samsung imo is really getting a good market share of the smart phones out there … so many of my friends who were apple iphone guys now have the galaxy phones … including myself !!!!! lol

      • The_Good_Life

Apple buying beats is not about headphones. Its about owning the patents to the technology FOREVER… That’s the reason for the big payoff. They will be able to lease the technology to other companies as well as incorporating it in their own products.

      • Skappie

I’m not arguing that…my point was that people see this buyout as something that will rescue a somewhat sinking ship. That is not the case. Yes this is a very strategic move but Beats alone can never keep Apple above the water but if all their core products keep improving then all the naysayers that believed Apple will perish after Steve Jobs wil be proven wrong. No doubt this is a big move for everyone involved..

      • The_Good_Life

I got u. Yeh apple product sales has plateaued somewhat but they have already cornered the market. The goal is to create better content for entertainment. They want to be like Sony pictures for tv and movies, and Sony music which owns record labels like def jam. They also hired jimmy iovine. I suspect they are creating the foundation for a functioning record label since they already distribute through I tunes…

      • Eli Pinilla

The ipod saved apple…..but you right. Apple computers were only in school. And they didn’t get inside homes until they brought out the clear covered monitor around 98-99..

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

lol yup if anyone had a mac back then it was one of those buggies lol looked like a cool 13in tv with a key board lol … photoshop gfx designers were always big on macs too …

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

sn the ipod can take them to the next level too … I GOT THE ANSWER SWAY !!!!!!!!!! lol

  • ItGoesDownINtheDM

i guess this answers the question of wether or not dre will still be attached to beats to keep the “authenticity” he adds to the product …

    • Hood Oracle

once a company buys another company their is no keeping the “authenticity” or “integrity” of ones product.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

if the head sticks around it will … they did the same thing with def jam when they first sold it off .. keep Russell in the fold altho he didnt own it anymore …. and then slowly but surely detached himself from the system before anyone noticed LOL

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

but imo beats never had any real integrity anyway … the consumer that buy beats dont really know about “quality” headphones … true engineers and specific sound lovers would personally go for another product ….. cause beats are bassy and not durable enuff for daily use … #speakingfromexperience lol … altho i love the bass part …. but eveyone isnt a bass lover even some hip hop fans

      • Live Well

No doubt. Beats are a cheaply made, overpriced fashion product.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

i should post a pic of my beats to really drive this one home !! lol

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

        Bose. Co-sign that Bro.

      • Dope

In some cases, like this one, it does. Beats popularity and relevance in hip hop relies heavily on Dre’s influence. So without him it would only become ”another apple product”, but if they give him a check every month and call him ”Creative Supervisor” or some other made up title, the consumers still think it’s Dre making all those headphones with his own hands.

  • Trill Gates

Dre, dont go up there with them white folks and embarrassed us. This is a golden opportunity here to show we aint just “niggas”

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

lol you know you talking about a vet right ? that already made plenty of money and did plenty of big business with Em Peter and Iovine right ?? If anything them new white folks over there @ apple better not mess up this opp they have with the LEGENDARY DOC !!!!!!

      • IceBergSlim

        No Doubt!

    • Troll_E_G

F u and that slave mentality….stop seeking validation from people who don’t respect u…dre did nnothing wrong….n we are NGR which means God which is what nigga derives from. .stop hiding who u are n pick yo nuts up n be a black man

      • Terrance

        It DOES mean GOD. #TRUTH

    • Live Well

      That’s the craziest statement…

    • IceBergSlim

Dre is cool same executives at interscope where he has been for over 20 years no difference with going to Apple

  • HATER PROOF

I HOPE HE DON’T GIVE …THEM TOO MUCH!!!THEY NOT WORTHY

  • Reblogged this on newageoftruth.

  • Dr. Dre has elevated the game. Although I think DJ Premier is officially the best producer hip hop has ever seen, Dr. Dre is the most successful. I can’t take that away from dude. Much props for moving hip hop into some more boardrooms. We need that exposure.

    • IceBergSlim

No doubt.. I could not have said it better

    • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Don’t forget Pete Rock too. Reason why I rank Dre he make his beats like you structure a song. Premier ( Mass Appeal) still of my favorite. Still wanna hear Detox, I’ll take it like it is now, Hip hop need something refreshing. How much (Money) is enough. He couldn’t spend it now if he tried. Can’t want for nothing. So how much is enough is enough?

      • Eli Pinilla

All good points…..mecca and the soul brother is the best produced album of all times imo…..

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Yeah, that why i mention him, still bump that one too. Producers now are lazy. Scared to try new sounds. I miss sampling, least u could be creative.

      • Eli Pinilla

I feel u….I got an album that got the original versions of every sampled used on the album. And this dude was chopping up like 4 records just to get the backdrop goin. Not even including the horn flips and chorus samples…..and they did it all on a Damn sp 1200…

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Exactly, Oh i forgot DJ Quik too. He’s one of my favorites. U get a chance check out Balance & Options by Dj Quik. It was a double album.

      • Pete Rock is the man! But without a doubt DJ Premier is the hands down best. His work ethic is sick. As far as Dre, he deserves what he does. But a lot of his production credits are questionable. I would rank him in the top 5. But number 1? Nah.

One of apples competitors is going to bid for SMS audio. Not sure they gone cough up a Billy tho

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

thier competitor is samsung htc etc….. any of them would be a great move for SMS that would be a crazy deal for fif man ….

    • the only reason SMS is even on anyone’s radar is because 50 just lost a multi-million dollar lawsuit for stealing the idea from another company…. aint nobody investing in that shit.

      • The_Good_Life

Not sure I agree with you. Wireless is big right now, video gaming consoles, cable boxes, surround sound systems. Its just a matter of time. Plus, notice you know SMS audio off top but didn’t recall the name of the other company! Money well spent.

  • The_Good_Life

Rush Limbaugh worships apple and detests hip hop. Dre’s success is a big f u to dudes like rush.

  • Sean Taylor

You put known facts in the rumor section and you put this rumor in the news section?

  • Sgt. H. Jennings

Apple isn’t purchasing the Beats brand for the quality of the headphones. They are purchasing Beats to control every aspect of the mobile world and it’s growing popularity. Beats are nowhere near the quality in the sound realm to Audio-Technica M50, Shure SRH 840, Sennheiser HD 598 or Grado. Apple and it’s engineers are fully aware of this. When you see people on the subway, planes, college campuses and videos a vast majority of them are wearing Beats. Either the Solo HD, PRO, Executives whatever. The Beats brand is a gold mine and Apple wants that market. Smart move by them. What if they improve the quality of the sound as well as the build. It’s curtains for a lot of headphone companies in that $100 – $500 range.. Apple Beats will outsell them all as they are doing with their cell phones and ipads..

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

if they change the quality to compete with some of the brands you mentioned that will definitely take beats to the next level .. but also like you said i doubt THE CURRENT consumer really cares about that anyway … lol they probably like it cause it goes well with thier outfit more than they like it cause the sound quality is great LOL cause honestly if they were thinking sound quality they would went else where …… i got a pair of beats myself cause i had a friend who had a pretty good discount on them thru best buy …. i use them to make beats …. but they arent good @ all for that …. creating a beat wearing a pair of beats will have you thinking ya ish is onpoint … until you play it in another system …. all the base you did hear isnt as on point as it sounds …. the mids are way lower than how they sound in the beats … might cant even hear any mid action @ all thru speakers … you really have to learn the levels these phones are set @ …by this point im used to it … but my next pair most likely wont be beats …. and its mainly cause i got the studio beats which require batteries !!!! 🙁 …. and they wont stand the test of time if you use them on the daily bases …. im in the process now of having to tape my right earphone back to the headset …..

  • Raheem Classick

I said If this deal don’t happen because of Tyrese, He gonna have
