Funkmaster Flex Rants About Dame Dash, Preview Dame's Response

(AllHipHop  News) The Loud Wars have entered round two. Last night (June 5th), Funkmaster Flex went to the Hot 97 airwaves to respond to Dame Dash’s alleging Kevin Liles and Lyor Cohen of being “culture vultures”.

According to Flex, Dash gave Flex a tour of the Roc-a-Fella offices prior to Def Jam owning a 50% stake in the company in 1997. Flex alleges that Def Jam and Lyor Cohen, whom Dash referred to as a “culture vulture” in an Instagram post, helped place Jay Z’s “Ain’t No N*gga” single on the 1996 Nutty Professor  soundtrack and financed the music video. Flex explains the hypocrisy of Dash’s critical opinion of Lyor Cohen:

[Dame Dash] was getting probably $2 million to $3 million in overhead for his label. He was getting $1 million video budgets. He was getting $1 million album budgets. You hear me? You count the years and you count the different artists and the albums The culture vulture cut him those checks. Who put a gun to his head and made him sign those deals?

One of the artists Dame Dash has repeatedly mentioned over the years is his former artist Curren$y and the fact that the New Orleans MC sued him in 2011. Flex explains how Dash’s dealings with Curren$y reveal how Dash himself has displayed characteristics of the same culture vultures he criticizes:

He had another label deal. Am I lying? Did he have anohter label deal AFTER Roc-A-Fella? He signed Curren$y to it, right? Curren$y put out two albums. You didn’t pay Curren$y on one song, b. Who’s the culture vulture? You konw why you didn’t pay him? Because you didn’t understand how digital he was. You didn’t see it, ’cause you didn’t have a computer.

Curren$y went to his personal Twitter account during Funkmaster Flex’s on-air rant to seemingly corroborate and support Flex’s allegations about Dame’s relationship with Curren$y:

Dame Dash is preparing to respond to the Funkmaster Flex rant on The Combat Jack show later today.  Check out Funkmaster Flex’s full rant and a preview of Dame Dash’s response below:

What it is Joe?!?! All these dudes was d-riding and jumping on Dame’s tip yesterday, but what I say?!?! This dude wasn’t saying nothing when he flosses off other brothers either and robbing brothers blind. Dame is just another fraud who is mad he got caught up

    • Troll_E_G

Who dame Rob…u don’t know the details of currency situation

      • Casor_G

Do you know the details of the Lyor situation? Yet you are calling him a vulture right?

      • Troll_E_G

I know about white supremacy so I’m correct in my assessment

      • SBRon

No you don’t because you think white supremacy, racism & business are 3 different things!?! Your whole argument on this thread is MOOT!!

  • Jared

They both talk too much so this should be interesting.

Tryng to listen to Funk but had to shut it down, Hate when a full grown man can’t intelligently express himself and then screams saying let me tell you something. The only thing i got constructively out of his expression is how he stole Dame’s idea also respect dude for his accomplishments and work ethics. We all know Dame! He’s a Harlem Dude, A get money type of man, A made man. He’s built empires from the bottom, broke bread with dudes and stay getting money. Dame to Flex….. really? Flex need to stick to record scratching for real and keep his mouth shut…
Pls Tell me flex as i’m all ears Mr. Let me tell you something New York… Ain’t no-one jumping in, you have our ears but then his tongue is twisted nor tied up and not saying much. Dame used twitter, few characters to express his opinion and this man has a whole radio, 20 minutes of audio but talking like a kindergarten kid. Let me tell you something New York…… Crazy how he’s able to matter within our “supposedly culture” and yet they wander why they call us dumb. Flex has no right to respond to a man expressing his opinion, he’s an attention seeker and Dame should just ignore him. Not every punk deserves a response as people listening or reading wouldn’t be able to tell a difference. (word to the wise)

    • Casor_G

      I understood Flex quite well

  • Quintin Williams

Honestly speaking, Dame has been talking too much.

  • Dan_Tebasco

Both of them have been hasbeens for so long that they are now onceuponatimers, when was the last time either of them did anything for music besides talking about it?

  • Eli Pinilla

I’m with flex on this one. Dame never cared about the culture vultures when he was gettin those checks….and he never paid currency for pilot talk 1-2. Currency had to sue dame…..I dont think it has anything to do with race with dame, he’s just gettin at people he feels slighted him during the roc split

    • Troll_E_G

Has everything to do with race ..blacks must take control of our economics

      • Eli Pinilla

In that case, I agree with flex 1000%. If dame was still in the game, he’d still be cashing those checks and f*ckin his artists….

      • Troll_E_G

Dame did no one dirty…only currency sued and we don’t know details…its not about cashing checks.. its about creating wealth for the black race so we can eat off each other instead of working for white folks who don’t care bout us in no shape or form. I agree with dame

      • Eli Pinilla

Everything your saying is a complete contradiction. I understand what you sayin, but you choosing the wrong battle to express your feelins bruh. Dame fucked state prop and Bennie in particular. He didn’t pay currency a dime. And he treaded other minorities under him or equal to him like shit. He ain’t in the game cuz he was an asshole. I don’t listen to flex and think he a nut huger, but he’s right…….funny how dr dre got f*ck ed by eazy and suge but just made a billion with the culture vulture jimmy iovine.

      • Troll_E_G

Nowhere in my statement was there a contradiction and Dame did no dirty, he made Beans to Un Kasa money so either u lying or misinformed

      • Eli Pinilla

It’s fact and Bennie been talked about it. Dames never refuted it. You can defend dame all you want, but he wrong. And you wrong for thinking he’s right…..it’s a contradiction cuz you say it’s not about checks it’s about black wealth but the man was collecting those checks from the enemy!!! Where was this talk in 98? Or 2001 when he really had power??? And all the successful black rappers that are making moves of progression in the wealth department f*ck with the “culture vultures” cuz they can see through all that bullshit……funny thing is, I bet the art community looks at dame like a culture vulture. How about the clothing industry? Is he not a culture vulture?? He made the rock album with the black keys( white boys) is he not a culture vulture?

      • Troll_E_G

Dame is right for saying Blacks NEED to take CONTROL of our ECONOMIC OUTLETS. ..he is indeed right a million%….the man is speaking on what needs to be done …he old now with a different mind so maybe he found his purpose…people like u and others deflect and turn on your own brothers in front of the enemy because u not seeing the big picture….there are like ten rappers getting money and its 43 million blacks in the US…so your progress of wealth u speak of is like counting stars in the daytime…its not there

      • Eli Pinilla

No, your just so blind and stuck inyour way of thinking that you don’t see the hypocrisy in what you sayin. We say dame f*ck ed other black artist out of money, you find an excuse. He treated other minorities like shit, u say he’s changed. Jay z is a millionaire that employs thousands of African Americans and he f*X with lyor. He’s a sellout???? Swizzy who’s going to Harvard f*X with the culture vultures, he a sell out? Even 50 didn’t call Steve stout a culture vulture when asked if he felt like dame did about stout. Oh wait, 50 BEEN a sellout….you stuck in your ways. You say dame changed, but before he changed he was an asshole who f*cked a few of his artists. But a white boy tells a racist joke from when he was 15 and you can’t forgive him. Age don’t matter then. Yet dame actually and knowingly stopped artists under him from attaining the type of wealth you speak of and you forgive a 35+ year old man over a 15 year old kid……

      • Troll_E_G

I never heard of Dame doing anyone in…but the point Dame is saying WE need to work together and stop letting people on the outside eat off us….the difference between millions n billions when We do all the work…1.5 trillion in spending power and we don’t have country, corporations, government, military, natural resources we can call our own..Dame talks can be the beginning of something beautiful…we need to stop point fingers at him and let rm go against the machine…

      • Eli Pinilla

I feel u and him on that. I don’t disagree at all. But all that “culture vulture” sh*t?!?! Naw homie, can’t cosign that. If what you sayin is what he’s sayin, then he needs to do that, not all that other shit he doin cuz he’s not one to talk. You can’t throw stones.

      • Troll_E_G

He’s not a culture vulture tho. Entertainment execs make billions of blacks for free damn near. No different than when slaves built the US yet got nothing…culture vultures are the people saying ancient Kemet was full of white people and Lyor n company rolls with these people….eating of black culture past n present while contributing nothing and making dame near all the profit ….this is not about throwing stones cause its a bigger picture and constantly talking about dame leaves it unattended. Shame on any brother getting at dame when he trying to help us in a way our future generations can have wealth if he sparks a revolution

      • SBRon

He can’t help us do shit!! YOU have a better chance of making a difference IF you’re REALLY that passionate about it?!? It’s like what Kris Parker said, “What can a preacher do with a bible in his hand that you yourself can’t do”?

      • Troll_E_G

First off who is Kris Parker n two, the bible is for the lost who have not unlocked there mental chains. Dame can help because he’s in the public light…we all have to play our part but when white Supremacy controls all aspects of communication…its hard to get a message heard thats against the system of white supremacy…that’s y the media and blogs quickly deflect and white posters pop up acting black causing division

      • Casor_G

He doesn’t get it Eli. Some people are always focused on a scapegoat. Dame was an arrogant dude who couldn’t control his emotions and wanted to debase people. That stuff finally caught up to him but now he wants to be wise.

And you were right to call out Troll E-G for that “he changed isht”. He couldn’t accept a 15 year old kid making a mistake but is willing to give a 35 yr old man a pass. If a 15 yr old Biebver represented who he is as a person then a 35 yr old Dame surely reps what he is. A narcissistic vulture who is pissed he can’t profit off anyone else anymore

      • Eli Pinilla

He holds a kid more accountable to his words than a man to his actions.

      • Troll_E_G

Business, White Supremacy, and Racism are thre different things…

      • SBRon

How’s that?!? As soon as you wrote “White Supremacy”, “Racism” became redundant!! Furthermore White Supremacy encompasses ALL facets of our existence, “business”, education, sports, entertainment (i.e. this music biz), etc…
Don’t know HTF you could say they’re 3 different things…?!?

      • Troll_E_G

Dame business practices should cannot b compared to Justins racist jokes and Lyors involvement of white supremacy is 3 different things….yes they all play a part and seem one in the same but in these 3 incidents, they are different….don’t know htf u can’t see that

      • RightOn

You are sounding like a broken record and not comprehending what Eli is telling you. Perhaps you should re-read them until you understand. Nobody is disagreeing with the black power movement you’re talking about, we are saying Dame is a fraud and he had no problem accepting all the money from those people when the getting was good and he was acting just like them towards black artist like Beans and currency…now all of a sudden because his ass is broke and they are not dealing with him, he is using the only thing he knows will get him support from suckas that will take his word at face value and not see deeper than that. When I first heard him using that term against Steve Stout, I was like “you of all people wanna talk that culture shit’ FOH with your opportunistic ass.

      • Troll_E_G

Dame being a fraud is opinion based …him being broke and has nothing going on is opinion based as well.. facts are what he is speaking on now but u bloggers constantly deflecting when its irrelevant to his current message

      • SBRon

That’s like WORD to the extreme…and I cut my teeth in Harlem!!!

      • RightOn

        Real spit.

      • RightOn

Yes black need, should and hopefully will control the culture..but this dude is not one to talk about that. He was fine with the vultures when it was benefiting him. Now that they are no longer dealing with him, he is using the culture as a smear campaign tool. FOH

  • $18916246

AIRED OUT! Now everybody gonna come with the ohhhhhhhhhhhhh?

  • Black Avatars

Nobody cares about these OLD ass niggas arguing.

    • $18916246

Toddler in the 90’s. A little history never hurt bruh.

    • PorchBoySlim

shut up and make those Gaainzz

  • Troll_E_G

Flex foul for jumping in this, Dame not once mentioned him yet he defends the vulture like they pay him….Lyor never went on a rant taking up for flex during the mister fee fiascos … Dame thinking big…..he saying WE MUST TAKE CONTROL OF OUR MUSIC,CULTURE ECONOMICS ETC and Benifit 100% from it ….some people just don’t get and by some people, I mean the lost with the slave mentality

    • Casor_G

Nobody is arguing with the fact WE MUST TAKE CONTROL OF OUR MUSIC,CULTURE ECONOMICS ETC. We are saying the dude saying it is a fraud

      • dee

“We are saying the dude saying it is a fraud” … We who?

      • foshow38

The people that see past Dame’s BS. This nigga is guilty of the same shit he is accusing lyor about. FRAUD!

      • Troll_E_G

        Not at all.

      • RightOn

“not at all” is not an evidence bruh. He is one of them. Except he got left behind so now he is using the culture card because being black is the only thing he got going.

      • Troll_E_G

What evidence do u have supporting your statement….facts is everything I said in the above comment….and lastly being black is the best thing ever so I don’t get the last part of your jargon….Time for blacks to take CONTROL of all our ECONOMIC OUTLETS, n thats what dame is talking bout ..nothing more or less

      • Troll_E_G

Only traitors think he a fraud

      • Casor_Greener

You seem pretty intelligent my brother so stop with the insults because they only make you look weak.

  • s0rethumb

Team Dame…It’s bigger than what Flex is willing to see or is able to see. When Swizz graduates from Harvard maybe he’ll be able to explain it to him.

  • Ipullcards

The 2 biggest gestures in hiphop.. When it was hiphop cause it ain’t that anymore

    • SBRon

      I’m thinkin’ you meant “jesters”…?

  • GP

For real. Dame Broke flex on the DL like his buddy Sister Cee. Who cares!

  • Mack

Funk Flex is on point here. Dame Dash needs to fall back.

  • Guest

I just hope dame beat flex ass

  • dee

I will never side with flex fuk him idc who hes attacking im on the opposite side every time

  • B.U.

So Flex’s main point is Dame Dash is a hypocrite who couldn’t adapt. I can understand that to a point, but while it may discredit Dame it doesn’t discredit his statements. Kinda like Jose Conseco outing MLB for knowing about steroids.

  • jubileeshine

If Black America were a country

    GDP: $892 billion (#17)

    Population: 37.0 million (#35)

Class structure: 46% middle class, 29% working class, 25% poor

Comparisons: It has as many people as Poland but makes 30% more money and would have more than twice as much land. Or: it makes as much money as Australia but has twice as many people to support.

The better comparison, though, is with the West Indies, the black English-speaking part of the Caribbean. For example, Black America has about the same GDP per capita as Trinidad & Tobago. Its life expectancy and infant mortality are at Jamaican levels. Its religion, language and history are much the same too.

    • Casor_Greener

Damn your %s leave nothing for rich brothers.

      We don’t have 1%s Jubilee?!?!?

Funny thing is when Rocafella was at his peak and shit was going good for Dame, I didn’t hear shit back then?? But now that he hits rock bottom he’s for the culture. Don’t get me wrong Dame provided a lot of opportunities for black people and people in his community. But don’t feed me this “Culture Vulture BS” when you participated in yourself.

    • Troll_E_G

He. Has interview saying the same thing past n present….focus on the big picture and that’s white supremacy eating good of black labor while we scraps. Mils can’t b compared to trillions and land

      • foshow38

You know what after listening to the interview on combat jack show, I have a better understanding of where he is coming from. Unfortunately us blacks don’t like breaking bread with each other. We’ll step over each other to get ahead instead of lending a hand. I still believe he was a “culture vulture”, but I see why he’s calling out Lyor Cohen and Steve Stoute. Also I think he’s exploiting this now cause he not investing in the music game anymore so from the outside looking in you he looks like some hero or black savior to the rap game.

      • Troll_E_G

Exploiting is what white people were attempting to do with setting a boxing match between x and Zimmerman…Dash is bringing truth to the forefront. .he’s not a hero nor black savior but he’s a true black man for spreading the message

  • Bryan Strive Bradley

soak up the game that you hear.
    and google this name “whoisstrive”

  • digitallife

Flex is all for the system because the system done bought him several houses, countless cars, and got him to a certain level of popularity. When was the last time you seen Flex play an indie record? So i’ll take his entire statement with a grain of salt…this situation ain’t limited to Rocafella, same shhh happened a Loud, Arista, and most recently at interscope. Hell 50 just explained this shhh to ya’ll…when you cut out the execs from the money and start trying to build something for yourself they get mad because you are now competition to them. I’m no 50cent fan but those are the truest words he said. The machine ain’t built to help you establish competition to them and Rocafella was very much a viable threat to the industry..where else would you have wanted to go as a rapper in that era? People like flex are happy having masters that cut them checks…it’s easier than to help people build their own and be their own masters.

    • Troll_E_G

The lost don’t get n just pointing fingers . I agree

FLEX GETTING PAYOLA JUST LIKE ALL MOST DJ’S ON THE AIRHAVE BEEN FOR DECADES. WHEN YOU EAT OFF BRIBE MONEY YOU WILL BACK ANY OF THESE SHIESTY ASS RECORD MOGULS.

  • MR. UNDI$PUTED THE MOGUL

Ego fucked up Dame. Damon Dash was great until he let Jay’s $ucce$$ & dominance go to his head!!!! Wasn’t shit cool about him barking on cat’s & putting people down he felt he either was better then or above! I’ve yet to see footage of him screaming or yelling in Lyor Cohens face, I’ve seen him yell at another black executive like himself(Kevin Liles). If you want to know how he went broke & Biggs was forced to sell weed, go to youtube & see if you can find “International Grizzly”. I bought it on dvd 2 months ago. Him & Biggs took a private jet ($!$$$?) to Europe with some of “their” crew & just kicked it under the premise of Dame being there to build the brand. They went to a fashion show, Puff was there dressed in a suit handling REAL Bu$ine$$ & all these cats did was buy tons of weed to smoke in Amsterdam with Dame steady talking about how he wishes he could get Cam/Jimmy & other ROC artists to come to Europe. Every time these cats landed they had like 6 Benzes rented to drive them around, Biggs even took a private jet back to Amsterdam so a flunky white dude could buy more weed & then take a train back to Paris or wherever they were because the other weed got confiscated when they landed!!! Tons of $$$$ wasted on BS & this was still when Jay was with then but the end was near because you see Dame listening to ’03 Bonnie & Clyde without even knowing it had ever been recorded!!! They then splice the aftermath into the dvd because he stops bragging on Rocawear & keeps bigging up “CEO” brand.

  • AMIR SHAKIR

I LIKE FLEXS INTERVIEW FOR SUM REASON I THINK HE TOLD THE TRUTH
