All of the stars were present on stage or via video at a press conference this afternoon. Keys described what Tidal represents and how the streaming service will be different from other outlets:

We come together before you on this day, March 30 2015, with one voice in unity, in the hopes that today will be another one of those moments in time. A moment that will forever change the course of music history. For today, we announce the launch of Tidal, the first ever artist owned, global music and entertainment platform.

Our goal is simple. We want to create a better service and a better experience for both fans and artists. And that is our promise to the world. Our mission goes beyond commerce. It goes beyond technology. Our intent is to preserve music’s importance in our lives.

Music is the language of love, of laughter, of heartbreak, of mystery. It’s the world’s true, without question, universal language. There’s not a soul living that can deny its impact.

No matter who we are or where we’re from or what we listen to, music speaks to all of us. It inspires us. It makes our heart beat faster and body move in ways we didn’t even know it could move. Music brings us together. It connects us all, and it’s giving us experiences that last a lifetime…

Music is so powerful. That is what Tidal will be. It’s a place for connection between artists and fans where we will deliver exclusive experiences that will be found nowhere else. A destination where we will discover the music that will become the soundtrack to the rest of our lives.

We have joined in Tidal for the preservation of an industry, to deliver music and experiences in a way that is best for the consumer. That is why Tidal is dedicated to cultivating a sound business enterprise that promotes the health and sustainability of our art and our industry around the world.

We believe that it is in everyone’s interest – fans, artists, and the industry as a whole – to preserve the value of music and to insure a healthy and robust industry for years to come. Today is the day that we begin that journey together. All of us as one.

Nice free promotion…. Greedy a$$ Artists…. Half of them are washed up…

    • Realest Minority

      lol wrong

    • Stüssy

how are they greedy?? you are one dumb ass nigga

    • plsDontreply

music artist should make minimum wage for stream and album sales. Then make their real money on tour. No point of them getting overly rich.

  • Reblogged this on HUEY mix wit RILEY.

  • Banksy

Man this is so Big and so Dope. Jay is always in the game changing business. Hate the God all you want but there is no denying his hustle or impact on the game.

    • drac215

What God? Jesus Father? or the self proclaimed god of rap and all his little subjects? In jesus name may God bless you to know the truth, peace.

      • Banksy

Man miss me with the religious talk. If it works for God Bless but religion is a man made creation created for control and division which is completely unGodly

      • drac215

Your right about that. Im a follower of Jesus(yeshua, emmanuel) and he never intended for any of the things you speak of, so yes man sometimes gets it wrong but Jesus via God is always the truth and the Light. Remember a true Christian is a follower of Christ word not man made idolatry(money, cars, homes, etc…) get in tune with the Bible and when correctly broken down its Gods word for all genereations. God bless you in Jesus name

  • Dark Matters

There’s a bunch of Jay Z haters who wish they were in his good graces now LOOOL

    • Banksy

Exactly where’s Flex and Dipset now? Probably still working on a mixtape. Meanwhile Hov is making moves like this lol

      • Dark Matters

Dudes are going to have to kiss the ring for real. I can see a bunch of rappers now catching flights to India trying to get “an app like the one Jay Z got”. LOL

      • Realest Minority

you are misinform my friend do you even the REAL history why dipset had beef with jayz in the first place cuz i would bet you dont even know

      • Savimbi

If memory serves me right it started with the H to the Izzo beat, it was cam’s originally

      • Realest Minority

bingo and what happend with the welcome to new york video ?? these dudes dont know hiphop

      • Savimbi

These new hiphop fans know nothing at all lol

      • Realest Minority

D*ick riders thats what they do

      • Realest Minority

i do respect dipset for never kissing jays ass

      • Dark Matters

Not disrespecting someone has all of a sudden become kissing someone’s ass? You think they could’ve managed to “not kiss his ass” without going out of their way to make themselves a “we’ve got beef with Jay Z” show?

Kinda hard to maintain self-respect while dissing the guy who made it possible for you to eat. But that’s low down hood rat philosophy for you, respecting people is “kissing ass” to people who have no self-respect.

      • Guest

you are misinform my friend do you even the REAL history why dipset even had beef in the first place cuz i would bet you dont even know

      • RMfagg

He’s a Carter stan, they don’t know ish.

      • Banksy

It’s not about Kissing someones ass though. I mean you can’t be signed to a mans company and come in there like you’re equals. That’s like Juelz thinking he was the Boss of Dipset.

      • Realest Minority

when did cam ever think be was the boss roc-a-fella explain ?

      • Banksy

So you really believe Cam and Jimmy entered Rocafella humble? Cam and especially Jimmy have never been humble. Shit Look at all the shit Jimmy said about Dame. Actions speak louder than words. Cam and Jim legacy compared to Jay speaks volumes. Those niggas would love to be in the same circles and doing the same things. Unfortunately their attitude and immaturity is their problem not Jay

      • Realest Minority

have you seen jayz in any other rappers videos ?? then ask yourself why is that like i said i salute them for not being suckers thats all

  • Eli Pinilla

This is dope. A little more than I would like to pay; but this is great for the artists.

  • 2 Blimps a mother why

Imagine the possibility for exclusive artist content. I’m keeping an eye on this…

  • I GET WHY ALL THESE ARTISTS CAME TOGETHER BECAUSE THERE ISN’T REALLY A MUSIC INDUSTRY ANYMORE EVERYTHING IS GOING DIGITAL THE ONLY PROBLEM IS WHEN THEY CREATE THESE KIND OF PLATFORMS THEY START OUT LIKE THIS THEN IT GOES CORPORATE

    • HOLY FRIGGIN MORON

A.K.A. ONCE WHITEY GETS A HOLD OF IT HE USES IT TO MAXIMIZE PROFIT AT THE EXPENSE OF FAIRNESS AND ARTISTIC INTEGRITY.

      • my point exactly

      • HOLY FRIGGIN MORON

        Figured as much

      • we all know how these company starts with this people first mentally then a corporation steps in and then it’s run like a money grabbing business

    • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Of Course especially if it start cutting into the Fat Cats Pockets, LOL! This move will only make more room for the bootleggers.

      • what’s good my G your right about that LOL

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

BK in the house, I’m good, and You?

      • i’m good i can’t complain

  • Realest Minority

    no dap for jayz ?

  • Inmadopicouroz✓QUEENSᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

still wont stop me from getting music for free fu(k niccas!

    • Realest Minority

      word up !!!!!!!!!!!!

    • RMfagg

      Who you telling?

    • Savimbi

      Lol

    • plsDontreply

      realest post on here

  • Realest Minority

once jay makes his $56 millions back from the fools who pay for it nobody is gonna give a rats ass

  • $.M.M.-BX

Pop artist stay winning, farewell Hip Hop.

  • From a business stand point, I give Jay-Z credit for making such a huge movement in music…Jay-Z secretly broke the internet today with Tidal…..Jay-Z is king… He proved it by inviting all those powerhouses in one room….No one in HipHop has this kind of power.

    • Realest Minority

you really think that star power didnt come at a price

      • Yes, everything has a price…Word on the street is that Jay gave them 3percent each, of the company. That’s a boss move right there.

      • Realest Minority

you answered your own question they not up there if they dont get a cut thats the only way it would work for him

      • But it’s a business, why would they not get a cut? They have power too, Jay-Z only made his team stronger….Can’t be mad at that.

      • Realest Minority

you acting like they were up there for free powers moves yes but at a price is my point

      • No I get what your saying and I agree…But these people have millions of fans who will do ANYTHING that their idol says….Not to mention it was the same feedback Dre had with Beats. How “Nobody is going to spend $300 for headphones from Dr Dre” but now everybody and their mother has one….lol

      • Realest Minority

that is true plenty of fools out here i can see that jayz will flipp that just like dre did with apple

  • chocboywonder

No Rick Ross…..all that ass kissing and he don’t get an invite

  • chocboywonder

I’m a little skeptical about this…it seems to be artist friendly…shouldn’t they strive to be consumer friendly?

Why am I paying more for something I can get for less/free? Oh, b/c the artists wants to make more money….i’m good

    • Realest Minority

bro trust nobody is paying for this sh!t thats the consumer talking for you

      • I personally will never buy a subscription but i am very sure that this will be successful without my little pocket change.lol

      • Realest Minority

damn rite i ant buying that sh!t he maken his money back in 3 years if not sooner powers moves tho jay is still that crack dealer just legal version

      • I predict that Jay-Z is forcing the other free streaming services to charge a fee…Once they start charging then everyone will just join Tidal because it’s new and trending.

      • Realest Minority

good point we’ll see its just hard when music is easily free

      • chocboywonder

I doubt he will be able to make companies like youtube/google, spotify and apple charge a fee….he doesn’t have that type of pull yet.

      • RMfagg

        And he never will.

  • I am watching closely at the other artist who were not invited….50 cent is too busy beefing and being a copycat, Diddy seems too busy trying to be on Empire…lol

    • Splatter

50 isn’t on any major label and is releasing everything he does independently. no need to join up with jay z and others for that. I cant speak on your Diddy comment.

  • Realest Minority

dont be fooled like the saying goes nothing is free in this world

  • It’s even bigger than you all think because, Kanye has the whole Kardashian clan, Rihanna got her hollywood connects, Alicia Keys got Swizz Beats, Nicki got Young Money and Meek Mill who brings with him Rick Ross”s whole team….Jay-Z only selected the power players….This is big

    • Sgt. H. Jennings

Couldn’t agree more. This is like nothing we’ve ever seen from this side. Yes there are streaming services that exist but not from this perspective/platform. I like it and I think it’s going to be dope..

    • RMfagg

You sound like a huge dyckrider. The only power players they have is their own money.

There is nothing impressive about doing what dozens have done before them.

      • I guess I am a “dyckrider” then….I am intrigued by greatness…Jay-Z has never disappointed me…The man works hard….He proves to all rappers that it’s more than just having dope rhymes, if you can’t conduct yourself in a boardroom. Jay-Z has a laundry list of successful endeavors he’s helped tons of people….From one black man to the next, it is my duty to show respect.

      • RMfagg

Sure sis, receipts of him putting anyone else on?
        He’s a biter personified.

  • KobieDixon

Shout out to J. Cole for creating the best hip hop album in a loooooong time. Shout out to Arcade Fire for holding down Haiti and having music and a live show that’s crack. Shout out to the big homies, Bey-Z; kickin’ in doors wavin’ four-fours on their corporate bully.. Shout out to Daft Punk and them helmets. Them helmets tho. Shout out to Madonna; always got one leg up on the competition. Shout out to Nick Minaj and Bad Girl Rhi; keeping it classy for once. I love you ladies. Shout out to Kanye’s voice infliction; inflicting pain on all who listen. When did they clone this dude..? Do they talk like that in Chi-raq? I don’t know. That All Day performance at the Brit Awards makes up for it tho. Shout and to Usher and Alicia Keys for that song the did together. You know, the last song they ever did. We want that old thing back. And shout out the countless white guys on stage I’m not familiar with; you must be dope. Your in great company. #tidal

    • I’m just sad for people like Chris Brown because it’s going to be hard for him sell records after this.

  • chocboywonder

I peep what they are trying to do…he is going to make a move to have these artists exclusively release their music through his service….but the problem is that majority of the artist do not own their music.

    • Sgt. H. Jennings

Majority of the artist up there do own their music.

  • TruthTalk

What’s so good about this service other than the sound quality? Why would a consumer want to use this versus similar services already out?

    • The Legendary Troll

because its owned by JAY-Z lmao

    • Papi Peligro

Artist can control who is allowed to play their music. So no more Itunes etc getting new content. They will have to go to TIdal.

  • EricHiesenberg

This is nothing special. Once you involve billionaires to counter this service it will fail (ie) Apple aka Beats Music coming.

    • Tanman01

I doubt it. This is for artists by artists. People listen to music not money.

    • Weedras

ever read stories of upstarts usurping the big fishes or forcing them to pay them to become a part of them or basically revolutionizing the market the billionaires basically dictated? it happens everyday..

  • The Legendary Troll

so whats the difference between this and spodify?

  • The Legendary Troll

how many f*ckin owners does tidal have?

  • kane pacino

lol jay didn’t sign shit! everyone there right handed though!

  • Pingback: Jay Z, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Kanye West, J. Cole & More Announce Tidal Will Be The First Artist Owned Music Platform (VIDEO) - Miraslowworld()

  • EquinsuOcha

im interested to see how this turns out, i got my doubts that a streaming service will do that well..but jayz has about 550m more than me so obv hes doing something right..

as a person who doesnt have much but loves to learn i always watch dr dre and jayz interviews and see how they move and read between the lines, outside of rap music.

  • Papi Peligro

All the streaming services will do. Is allow you to play your own MP3’s into their Music tool. Basically supplementing the new stuff. While still retaining a back catalog. Its like cord cutting. You download the shows you really like and then take what you can get from Netflix. Cause its cheaper. If they charge 19.99 to rich for my blood. HBO Go is 14.99 boardwalk empire game of thrones is better than all the music in the last 20 years and I still don’t want to pay for it.

    • Dubz

      It’s 9.99 or 19.99 I thought.

  • THE.

Artists who signed this, already pulling off their videos on YouTube and ting… Looks like monopoly to me!

  • MassConglom

Aye Dame… you takin notes on how “Real Bosses” move, lol?

    • HOLY FRIGGIN MORON

      Stop being a chatty patty

      • MassConglom

        Dame… is that you,lol.

      • HOLY FRIGGIN MORON

People from Harlem don’t do that.

      • MassConglom

        do what?

  • Aiden_Abetting

So artists raping artists now. Smart move for these folks.

  • Watch Samsung buying this platform from jay z after a while for $1billion….

    • meanygreene

I don’t think this will be profitable.

      • It could well be, if it becomes an app exclusively or even primarilly, available to Samsung, promoted by all these artists…. Jay Z in particular…. Subscribers equals to advertising revenue….

  • ANDRE SALAZAR

Well lets see what’s really going on: 100,000 subscriptions x $20/month = $2M/month x 12 = $24M/year!! Just to make this company actually valuable to anyone other than Jay-Z & Beyonce, they’d have to get subscriptions up to 10M – 100M subscribers which is NOT easy at this time! The problem with STREAMS is that the provider still dictates WHEN & HOW you consume the music you want to listen to, while current listeners can consume their music whenever & wherever they want! Streaming is still a prison, while downloads are not + the backend (bandwidth + networked server farms) are always required & I feel as if these artists are clueless to that reality at present! This represents a shift from the normal business model but is just replacing the CEO’s of corporations with artists who have large brands = the exact same results, except that artists who have NO name but a dope song might not get out now because of artists deciding which other artists get to compete with them!

    • Dope

Subscription is only part of the money, they’ll also get money trough ads, labels pushing their songs etc.. Though there are also expenses such as royalties. But he obviously believes it will be worth his time and money, and I’m sure he had a team of financially smart people go over it before he decided to throw money at it.

  • Real Talk

    It’s called power move

  • Saiyan Prince

“Momma ain’t raise no fool/ put me anywhere on God’s green Earth/ I’d triple my worth.”

      • plsDontreply

        lol

  • Sgt. H. Jennings

This is huge…. Make no mistake this is groundbreaking.. Good look for each one of them. Some of the most powerful artist on the planet are on this stage. They’re all capable of moving units and each bring a huge fan base.. Looking forward to this…. #Tidal

  • THOT Provoking

…the biggest artists are not a part of this! You got about 4 artists who sell who are apart of this but no Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Drake, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar, etc…I’m a bit worried that the artists are planning on doing this are only doing this because of how little they get from Spotify. Other artists will create similar platforms and Spotify will go out of business, Youtube will lose money, and the consumer will probably never hear free music again 5 years from now!…Jay, Dre, 50, and Diddy are the most powerful people in hiphop culture, but Drake will be the most powerful overall probably from age 30 throughout. He’s made the correct moves so far, lets see if that continues…Wayne fucked all the way up with the moves he made!

    • HOLY FRIGGIN MORON

Wayne definitely messed up. When he’s 80 he might have to downgrade to a porshe or something.

    • Dope

Free music will always be there. There are still countless songs on youtube that haven’t been removed. And even if youtube went harsh on those and removed them, people would just post them on other sites like dailymoton etc.. and then there’s the torrents. So don’t worry about that.

As for the big artists.. well, he couldn’t get everyone to come and support, that is clear. He chose a few, but I’m sure all of those will have their music available on this service just like they have it everywhere else.

    • Weedras

Taylor swift was one of the first onboard, not all the artists that are signed on are there…and he got some of the juggernauts on the global market Madonna, Daft Punk, DeadMaus etc… you’re mainly naming out ppl you can identify on the urban market…

  • InTheNightKitchen

This service is for Audiophiles. True listeners, people who appreciate every nuance of sound.

    • pauleyPee

…. Nuances rarely found in the kind of music that will be streaming through this service.

  • FRUKOH

im still downloading if the artist already rich so idgaf about no tidal

  • jacksjus

Damn and I just got a Spotify account.

  • Guest

The music does sound better on Hi-Fi…but everyone knows the best sound quality comes out of w.e device or speakers you’re using! TIdal is all hype…but shout out Jay for this epic power move.

Google Play music is better…you pay the same 9.99 a month and you you can upload up to 20,000 of your personal music to the cloud and access them thru the same app. And you get digital albums the same day they drop!

How are you going to convince millions of ppl who already have spotify/google play subscriptions to switch over to this? Tidal has some work to do…im canceling after my free trail is over lol

  • pauleyPee

So just because Jay-Z slaps his name on a service, I’m supposed to jump ship? Sorry Hov, you need more people.

    • Dubz

      Niggas did that with Beats.

      • pauleyPee

On another note, I really believe that when corporations buy out these services, they’re really chasing intellectual property. Streaming is obviously going to be a staple into the future… It’s not even about the state of the service today… It’s about control tomorrow.

      • Dubz

        True

  • Arii

    I’m not paying for this.

    • HOLY FRIGGIN MORON

… is what I said to your mother.

      • Arii

She didn’t even ask for money, but I guess you addressed the issue out of habit.

      • HOLY FRIGGIN MORON

        Touche

  • TruthHurts

I applaud these artists for developing something they can personally control. Unfortunately I still don’t see it surpassing the media muscle of Beats now that it’s combined with Apple/iTunes.

    • plsDontreply

they all lose, torrents for the win

      • TruthHurts

I agree that’s true for a lot of people, but I guarantee the vast majority of the music listening public has no clue what a torrent is…especially if they’re over 30. Streaming music is the future because you’ll be able to listen to whatever you want at the press of a button, without clogging hard drives and cloud space.

      • plsDontreply

I hear ya. I’m 33 though and music files are small as shit. People are dumb

      • TruthHurts

True lol but also factor in the morality debate. The percentage of people who get ALL their music from torrents is pretty minimal in scheme of things. In 5 years I think majority of households will subscribe to some music streaming service free or paid. It’s hard to grasp being in our age bracket, and growing up with music collections…But in the near future why would you ever store music, if you had 24 hour streaming access in your car, home, and person, to any song ever made? IMHO that’s what’s coming!

      • plsDontreply

Sounds about right. If I don’t own it and have it as my own its worthless is my mentality. With the hard drive space available these days you can have a limitless library. A search tool or app that works like a stream site would be more useful to someone like me. I’m aware i’m the minority. I actually find mp4 the most important thing right now. I like to play videos off usb in my car. Music is what you make it. I don’t even like vevo becuase their videos are hard to download. I hate to conform.

  • Savimbi

Looks good, sounds good I applaud Jay for his business acumen but on the grand scheme of things this is Further proof that these new black ni99as ain’t $hit!!!! (Besides cole) none of these folks got together to take a stand against the rampant violence towards young black youth at the hands of the police. I guess massa only allowed them to do a silly camping of ” I can’t breath” t-shirts. Could you imagine if the Baldwins, Ali’s of the 60s only resorted to t-shirt campaigns? Ni99as would still be eating in the colored section only at McDonald’s!!!!!!!

  • Weedras

i’m interested to see how this goes… but damn! mofos be on here talking about wanting to see colored folks make big moves but when they do they tear them down…i’m glad to see a group of black people at the forefront of trying to take the industry back into the hands of artists and away from the corps many people complain about… this shit gives many artists some leverage now, especially if its wildly successful…

    • HOLY FRIGGIN MORON

J Cole and Alicia Keys are half white. Madonna is white also. Rihanna is from Barbados. Half of the other artists mentioned are white.

      • Weedras

so ummm… aren’t they identified as black? rihanna is from Barbados really?!? that’s a fxxking country not a race she’s still black! …. i clearly stated “at the forefront” meaning others are involved but this shit is being pushed by an artist along with other artists of color..

      • HOLY FRIGGIN MORON

The Barbadian population is a diverse ethnic mix of people, the majority of whom are of African descent however, Barbados is also made up of people who are of mixed race, Caucasian or European descent, East Indian, Oriental and Middle Eastern. “Identified as” doesn’t mean much. I think Iggy “identifies” herself as black.

      • plsDontreply

the black delegation does not accept “iggy”.

  • Mahdi Hamid

Death to the Satanic Music Industry and anybody who supports it!

  • Raheem Classick

The hate is strong from competitors and others alike. Tidal offers Music streams @ 320 kbps & 1411 kbps (Lossless Audio) Rhapsody & Spotify do not offer lossless audio, at most they offer music @ 320 kbps @ $9.99 <(All 3 charge this for 320 kbps) Tidal also charges $20 for their higher grade streams.1411 kbps (Lossless Audio) it's an option.

    • TEXMEX00001

None of that even matters, if you’re streaming off a low quality wifi signal, or through your phone. Not to mention the data it will use up. GTFOH, this is something that NOBODY and I mean Nobody needs right now… All Hype/Marketing machine.

      • Raheem Classick

Muthafuka, do you know what the word OPTION” means ?
