‘The Wire’ Creator Is Developing A Series About The ’70s P### Industry

THE MASTERMIND BEHIND ‘THE WIRE’ HAS A NEW SHOW UP HIS SLEEVE

The creative mind behind the HBO hit The Wire is developing a series that will explore the 1970s scene of the p### industry, The Hollywood Reporter.

David Simon is teaming up with George Pelecanos to work on The Deuce, a series that will focus on the rise of the p### industry in the Times Square area of New York City during the early 1970s to mid-80s. The show will chronicle the industry’s fall as well, which was brought on by the HIV and crack epidemics.

The two revealed that they were not quick to jump on board to make a show focusing on p###.

“George and I looked at each other and said, ‘I don’t wanna make a p### show,” Simon said. “I’m married with kids and lawn furniture. I don’t want to go there, man. That’s dark.’”

They were persuaded by a former work associate who convinced them that they had to hear the story of a man who was in the mob during that time in that area. After deeming his tales worth their while, the research began.

Simon said that he wants to make sure that the show has a compelling story line and and is not just full of sex scenes.

“You really have to land it in such a way where it’s a story about people and it’s a story about markets — about the moment where something became legal and profitable and what happens to people in that environment when markets prevail.”

HBO may be the home for the series but nothing has been confirmed.
