(AllHipHop News) Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda has been incarcerated since December of 2014. As the “Hot N*gga” rhymer awaits for his conspiracy, drugs and weapons possession trial to begin in January, many supporters of Shmurda have questioned why his label, Epic Records, has not bailed him out.

Earlier this summer Epic’s Sha Money XL spoke about the company’s decision not to put up money for Shmurda’s release. He said at the time, “It’s not like a social worker. They’re not here to worry about what happens in your private life. Those are the choices you make in your private life.”

Now Epic Chairman/CEO L.A. Reid has offered his thoughts on the situation. During an interview with the Rap Radar podcast, Reid responded to the criticism hurled at his label over the perceived lack of support for its artist.

“It made me feel like people don’t know anything about my business. It’s really not their business. That’s the truth about it,” said Reid about the critics. “We’re not elected officials here, and we’re not at liberty to disclose how we do business.”

The legendary music executive added he felt Shmurda’s legal situation was unfortunate, but he believes the young performer’s better days are still ahead of him.
