The Weeknd & Drake Lead Canada’s Dominance On The Hot 100 Chart

AN AMERICAN HAS NOT HAD A #1 IN FOUR MONTHS

(AllHipHop News) Drake may not have been able to live out his dream of having “Hotline Bling” reach the pinnacle of the Billboard Hot 100, but the Toronto native can be proud that he is part of his home country’s current reign over the American music scene.

This week’s Hot 100 sees Canadians maintaining the top 4 spots on the chart. Drake’s “Hotline Bling” is currently at #2, right behind The Weeknd’s “The Hills” at #1. Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?” lands at #3, and Shawn Mendes of Toronto occupies #4 with “Stitches.”

The highest U.S. born performer on the current Hot 100 is Taylor Swift at #5. American talent has not hit #1 on the chart since July. At that time, “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa ended its 12 non-consecutive week run as the top song in the country.

Canada natives The Weeknd (“Can’t Feel My Face” & “The Hills”) and Bieber (“What Do You Mean?”) along with Jamaica’s Omi (“Cheerleader”) have controlled the number one position on the Hot 100 since the week of July 25. England’s Adele is likely to debut at #1 on next week’s chart with “Hello.”
