Future Denies Being A Drug Addict

Photo via Future’s Instagram

Rappers lie about a lot and oftentimes they fake lifestyles. Future now seems to open up about doing the same. Future had a pretty amazing year in 2015 with No. 1 albums, his ‘Dirty Sprite 2 Mixtape’, his collaborative effort with Drake, ‘What A Time To Be Alive,’ and more. One can’t help but to notice that in Future’s lyrics, he often talks about being drugged out. In a recent interview with Clique, Future wanted to clear up a few things.

“I’m not like super drugged out or a drug addict. My music may portray a certain kind of image and I know it’s some people that might be super drugged out and they listen to the music like, ‘Ay thank you, you speaking for me’ and then some people that’s no that feel like, Man I don’t have to do drugs, I can listen to Future and feel like I’m on something’ and don’t have to try. I don’t do it for you to really have to live that type of life.”

When asked why he would portray such a persona, Future replied saying,

“It’s a catch.”

A little bit irresponsible or nah? What are your thoughts?

  • Anthony Mason

    “Above as it is below”…

This dude is straight poison to the minds of youth and everyone forced to listen to him. Future is may be the rapper I can’t stand the most. I really really dislike all of his songs…

    • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

Young Niggas gotta make better decisions. If my son start doing Perkys and Mollies after listening to a few Future songs, I cant get Mad at Future. It means I failed him as a Father.

      • Anthony Mason

But some of these kids are raised by rappers! That is their role models. They don’t have father to intervene like you said!

        What I said was valid…

      • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

It seems like the Guilt still lies in the Hands of the Father, or the absence of one. Someone must inform a child that its just lyrics. If no role model is present a Child will Most likely gravitate towards negativity. I think the Company you keep is more vital. If your friends/family are Drug Addicts, then 9/10 you going to use drugs, if you hang around people who are trying to go to college, its very likely you’ll go to college as well.

      • Anthony Mason

That is true but these kids man….they don’t have the maturity yet to jump to these evaluative statements like you or I do….

  • NotTomFromMySpace

He is a grown a** man. I dont condone it for me or people around me but if he wana be skied up and leaning thats on him. Shame that grown men follow anyone, thats their fault lol

  • Anthony Mason

He is a damn addict if I ever heard of one….

  • Nightmare

    Syrup drinkin wack n!gga.

  • RazaBladeKing

Junkie says “I’m not a junkie.” We’ll bring you the thrilling details at 11

  • M.DOT

    I’m a addict and I can’t even hide it
    – Codeine Crazy

  • Anthony Mason

Like an old alcoholic says ” I just like a little taste”. Lol!

    • STEPH

Lol, Just enough to wet my beak.

  • Anthony Mason

If future quit everything cold turkey he would go into cardiac arrect. No he isn’t an addict…..He just says it on every song…

  • Papi Peligro

He ain’t that bright. LOL. I believe it when he say he ain’t no addict. All these rappers got coke too right? Nah. I believe him he just talking junk.

  • WORLD DOMINATOR

WACK AZZ LAME! A ‘catch’?….. you mean a ‘gimmick’?! Pushing drugs to the kiddies that listen to your GARBAGE is worse than a child molester! Filling these prisons & morgues with young black males……. F*CK FUCTURE & his lame azz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Anthony Mason

Say that s***!!!!! Damn right bruh. Damn right….

    • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

He’s saying he does Drink Codeine and do other Shit, but he’s not a “junky”. Which is somebody who has lost control of their Habit and feels that they Needs Drugs to Survive.

  • ImaFoolBoy

    He’s in denial

  • Markus

In his own words by his own admission,he makes his music a certain way to accommodate and support the drug lifestyle in music and make profits from it. He’s worse than a junkie. He’s an enabler.

    • Anthony Mason

And a peddler of poison. Literally and through music…

      • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

You guys goin to the Extreme a lil bit dont you think

      • Anthony Mason

I’ll put it this way….I can’t enable some destructive bulls*** to go unnoticed and pretend it does not exist. At least I’m not out here trying to brainwash people and condone a a toxic lifestyle. Feel me?

      • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

I definitely Feel you. But you better not Smoke Weed OR Drink if thats how u really feel.

      • Anthony Mason

Bruh….ME as a 31 year old having a glass of white wine with my girl over some pasta at dinner is not negating anything I said. I sure as hell don’t smoke weed….

      • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

White wine doesnt count. I was gon ask how u felt about Wiz Khalifa but I guess I’ll save it lol

      • Anthony Mason

I don’t got time for that and I am into fitness, nutrition and work/life balance. Lol. Yeah I’m grown a** man who has people relying on me to be a leader so I can’t preach one thing and do another…

      • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

        Real Shit.

      • Obi Won

Basically what OG Maco was saying

      • Anthony Mason

I thought he was more admitting to being part of the problem…..

  • DJ7

This fool is merely a pawn used for psychological warfare on our babies…straight up and down…

    🤔 It’s plausible that son DON’T do drugs…AT ALL!

Yet, he receives a Kings’ ransom for his cooperation in poisoning the minds of the young and impressionable by peddling his “catchy” tunes.

    • Anthony Mason

      Straight up exactly like that….Bllllaaaaatttt!!!!!!!!

    • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

He was just saying he’s not someone that doesn’t have control of his Addiction, even though his lyrics may paint a different picture. It’s only music at the end of the day, and if you look to future’s music for Guidance you have deeper issues.

      • DJ7

        I’m I ova ya head
        -KRS One

        You said absolutely 0 fam…

      • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

Everyone that does drugs isnt a Junkie.

      • DJ7

        I don’t think you truly got what I said the 1st time…sad😔

  • rocnation30

That’s why his music is not that good ….. Watered down non lyrics misdirectional… Just dumb…. Nas , Jayz , big , don’t give you gimmicks…..that’s why they are top tier rappers … Future is here now gone tommorrow

    • Hendrix2020

Future has been here for right at 6 years. If was gonna be gone it would’ve already happened by now. Every hip hop artist does not have to display outstanding lyrics. Some artist are great entertainers and some great rappers cant entertain. There are people who relate to his music and will support him no matter what.

      • rocnation30

Must be a future fan…..have nothing against the dude …I judge his music…which all sounds the same about drugs and how many niggas he got to kill for em…and now that he has hurt and just tricked his drug using fan base ….wtf what does he have left???

      • Hendrix2020

Honestly it aint that serious. At the end of the day its all entertainment. No one cares if a rapper really does what he raps about because most of em don’t do it anyway. For the record…Im 34 years old and Im a fan of good music. It all depends on what mood Im in. No one wants to here lyrics in the club bruh. Its a time for everything.

      • rocnation30

Why u in the club anyway u a old head….and u right only the true artist speak what they actually do.::that’s why they are still around … Shout out to hov

      • Hendrix2020

Not once did I say I be in the club. I was speaking in general. I don’t go to clubs to hang out. However, if Im in the club its to make money on the side. I promote parties and artists so I still have to be in the mix sometimes.

      • rocnation30

        Ok my bad.. Misread then…

      • Hendrix2020

And another thing…Biggie rapped about the same shit…money, cars, clothes, selling drugs and Brooklyn. People need to stop acting like rappers just started that shit.

      • rocnation30

My nigga I feel u on future .. U like his music but at the end of the day homie cannot rap… Him and fetty wap do the same shit ….lol u pick and both him and fetty wap is trash… They wil give u 1 hit and a album full of garbage songs…no content .. No bars

    • Anthony Mason

He is here because industry insiders keep endorsing him…..

      • rocnation30

Didn’t say he wasn’t here or their…but he will be gone….he’s a temporary artist a time filler

      • Anthony Mason

Oh I agree. Preaching to the choir…

      • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

Don’t forget the Quality Music and Consistency.

      • Anthony Mason

Future is performing psychological warfare on young impressionable minds….

      • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

Beanie Sigel Rapped about Codeine on “Purple Rain” in 2005. “Dont blow my High, when Im sippin on that PUUURRPPLLEE RRAAIINNN”. Nobody came at Him like they come At Future. So did Lil Flip, the Entire Houston Culture. Lets not forget 3-6 Mafia and their Entire Drug Addict Crew. Its starting to look like a Witch Hunt.

      • Anthony Mason

I was going to say that to but it is the PERPETUATION of it that bothers me. I know my history bruh…

      • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

I feel you on that 1. After Rick Ross and Lil Wayne almost died, and Pimp C, DJ Screw and a few other Houston Artist actually did Die, people were falling back on the Drank for a lil minute.

      • Anthony Mason

        As they should….

    • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

Man been Making Hits for like 4-5 Years Now. Keep wishing he might go away. By the way his last Album was Fire and his New Mixtape straight Flames.

      • rocnation30

What album … ??? What a time to be alive?? That was all drake … Lol…. He been around longer than 4-5 years… But he still trash… He’s a artist that will die it’s not like he’s super big… He makes a song here and their and usually they are off a mixtape .. Last time I checked u don’t get a check for mixtapes

      • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

What kind of “Time Filler” hangs around and keeps making Hit Songs for 5+ Years? That’s never happened. You say WATTBA was “All Drake” but alot of people say it was “All Future”. Either way it was Flames. He may not be “Super Big” but he’s Big time and makin $$$. As far as mix tapes goes, you’re wrong you can generate $$$$ from Mixtapes. He just came off the Beast Mode vs. Monster Tour where he rapped songs exclusively off the Mixtapes. Future has some Mixtapes thats better than rappers’ albums.

      • rocnation30

I see I have a future fan .. On my hands it’s cool.. Listen future is ok at best .. I’m not really a fan .. Think some of his songs are str8 .. He gives you a few club bangers every now and then .. He sticks them on a mixtape and you call the whole album fire.. Lol… Where I’m from consistency and having good bars meaning lyrics makes you good..future has none of that just another artist who stole Tpain style…lol

      • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

He doesn’t Sound anything like T-Pain, and they have different subject matter. He is the definition of Consistency, being that every Year Up North niggas say it’ll be his Last and then the Next Year he’s still Around droppin bombs. Future never was the Greatest Lyricist in the Game, and he never claimed to be. However he has some Deep lyrics if you take the Time to listen. You gotta be able to appreciate different Music. You probably dont understand half of what he’s saying and you say he’s not lyrical.

      • Controversy Sells

With all due respect. . . You seem bitter. I personally have never listened to a future album, but to me all his radio hits were hits. I don’t know what a full body of work sounds like but he’s been around since what. . . 09. Either ppl really like this guy or they really like this guy. 7 years being in a solid position in the top bracket of an industry means something whether ud like to admit it or not. you are only person opposed to millions who actually do listen to his music.

You don’t like his music? You think it’s toxic? Then why the hell are you reading an article about him? You just gave not only AHH a clicl but future as well. Pat yourself on the back for supporting him

      • rocnation30

With all due respect I don’t feel anyway or bad or malice towards future at all… I am simply a critic of hiphop period that’s it.. I love some of futures tracks they are but the majority sucks …. Him and fetty wap sound exactly alike.. Listen just because a person has a radio hit, a tour, a mixtape don’t mean they are successful or the best rapper , or will be around in the next 2 years… Yes future was out in 09 but he wasn’t poppin like today’s future. Today this is the biggest he’s been as an artist. If you listen to hiphop yes I listen to all hiphop so I can be a critic it’s my job…..
Back to your boy future his music is ok …. Horrible bars , mixed with drug references that he doesn’t even do … And singing like he’s fetty wap older brother… You don’t judge consistency off of a nigga having a tour or being out since 09… Wtf …. Trinidad James was out since 09 too is he consistent????

      • Controversy Sells

First and foremost, future blew up after being featured on the track of a guy who is no longer around. 2nd. . . 2010 is when he put out Tony Montana and drake jumped on and gIned him more attention also the same year he dropped what I’ve read to be some good mixtapes. Si n ce then he has toured, dropped a couple albums, and released a few successful mixtapes a year.

Now I’m not the biggest future fan, actually I’m not a fan at all. . . I couldn’t get thru 2 songs on ds2, but how dare you compare him to Trinidad James who was not out in 2009? All gold everything first hit satellite radio in what.. . 2012. Which was his first effort at making music. Trinidad James didn’t last because he wasn’t making Def Jam any money and his album FLOPPED terribly.

      • rocnation30

Look up when Trinidad James came out …..just because u first seen him on the cover of xxl don’t mean that’s when he came out…lol…Trinidad been out since 09 underground his first break was 2012…lol

      • Controversy Sells

Nigga why are you sending me to do research and you don’t even have your facts strait. Comparing future and trinidad james is like comparing apples to oranges. And trinidad james has said himself he started rapping only a year before all gold everything came out. So if all gold everything came out in 2012 and he only started rapping a year before the (2011) then please explain how he was a u derground artist in 09????????

You can’t explain that because he wasn’t an “artist” in 09. . . He wasn’t making any music.

And back to this comparing apples to oranges.. . U basically made my point for me if it was in fact true that james did start in 09. I said future blew up off someone else’s song in 09. . . You said james was underground in 09. . . Stay on topic bruh. Fact of the matter is future is a big artist whether you like it or not. Ultimately you just sound like a hater.

      • Hendrix2020

        And where are you from?

  • Oopster

When I was in high school I did everything smoked weed, popped x, mollies, perks,Vic’s did shrooms and LSD on the regular bases I’m 25 now and if you still a young boy reading this don’t do it was fun but I payed prices for those decisions I made back then and it took a long time to get my life on track now I got a nice city job make 2k after taxes a check and no matter how much fun I had back then it doesn’t compare nowhere to the peace of mind I have today all you need is god one love

    • Anthony Mason

Real talk….Young people need to hear that so they can just skip the bulls***….

    • Myleage

so…what happened? like the bad stuff?

      • Oopster

Just a bunch of charges, totaled my whip, beefing with my moms getting kicked out, beef with my ex, and not being a proper role model for my little brothers but its all good now I pretty much made my life miserable because I was to busy having fun to recognize o was in s triple spiral til it was too late and all these things accumulated

      • Myleage

God bless. nice to see you turn it all around while you’re still young

      • Oopster

        Thanks

    • Anthony Mason

Weed acid and shrooms are not extremely dangerous per se. I experimented in college.

Anything opiate based…STAY AWAY. That s*** will kill you in your sleep and you wont have a chance to come back….real talk….

Mollies and coke STAY AWAY. I know of too many dudes who died my age from coke and alcohol mixed….Never do it no matter what…

You know your a drug addict as soon as you say i’m not a drug addict.

  • Damany G

Since when has it been cool to be a junkie? but now I guess it is with these rappers bragging about recreational drug use.

The Dealers used to be respected now it’s the other way around…. SMH!

    • Obi Won

I remember Troy Ave was saying that same thing heavy in his interviews lol

    • Anthony Mason

Drugs are not necessary. God can provide everything we need. It is difficult….. and the road is challenging but hardcore drugs are stright up f***ing deadly and pathetic….

  • nina caliana

If Future was REALLY a Junkie he would have derailed himself a long time
ago. Be for real people. If his music makes you upset that’s because it ‘s expressing the dark side of the drug culture that’s been pervading black communities and the U.S. as a whole. Don’t attack the messenger… Folks been poppin pills and doing drugs and he’s not the only rapper talking about it…. Kill the Drug Culture Not the Messenger

    • Anthony Mason

You guys are so creative with excuses for these guys…..That you future? Lol….

No s*** hip hop has a drug epidemic. Why you think so many of us are against it and trying to point it out? You part of the solution or the problem? There is no grey area….pick one….

      • nina caliana

You clearly didnt listen to the entire interview… Just like the majority of the masses–partially informed with strong opinions…

      • Anthony Mason

Or maybe MORE informed with LESS excuses AND strong opinions. Future is garbage my friend. Total utter garbage. That is factual. Lol! It is that cut and dry….Grade A top notch Basura.

I would rather eat leftover spoiled food out of a Colombian garbage dump than have to record and mix some Future vocals. His engineers must get skied out of their minds to tolerate him….

        Lmao!!! I am dead serious….

      • Myleage

you think hip hop has a drug epidemic? let me introduce you to rock n roll (started by blacks btw)….

      • Anthony Mason

Oh you are right bruh! 100%. I’m awake and aware of that…

I cant remember the last rock song I heard telling black people to drink lean was though. Lol! Reevaluate your stance bruh…. Hip hop is not supposed to be telling black kids to pop pills and if it is….it is some whack s*** in my opinion….

        Hey I don’t give anyone a pass…even my favorite rappers…

      • Myleage

there are plenty of rock songs about doing drugs, or lynching n!ggers (i heard them). that’s like getting mad at movies like Scarface, the Godfather, Godfellas, or New Jack City because of the way they portray dugs and violence. the truth is, it starts with the parents. If you can become a millionaire at 18 by rapping about drugs, I would not blame you for doing so nor would I try to force you to be a role model. these are young dudes who are growing themselves. they dont HAVE to be role models. I would like for them to be, but im not faulting them for not. Just like I dont fault Robert De Niro for portraying mobsters.

      • Anthony Mason

Money is not everything and how you get to it says a lot about you…..

      • Myleage

        aight bruh

  • IDNTGIVAFUCKBOUTNOTHING

Everybody on this Site are a bunch of Hypocrites. Everybody knew he was exaggerating about his Drug Use or Else he’d be DEAD by now!! I hope you niggas never listened to Snoop or Wiz since yall acting like everybody who raps about Drugs is the Devil lol.

  • so people are mad he isn’t an addict? lol i get it. you have to have some common sense to know if he was that drugged up all the time he couldn’t possibly do all these shows and function properly. imo

  • RAMADAwhite

hes no different than juicy j. I went to several shows when he was on the bill and he always says I’m off of a million different drugs and me sitting there was like theres no way he’s doing all this shit.

  • MadVillain

hate this fools music and wouldnt give a shit if he ends up critical
    stay on the lean nigga

  • When will people realize and come to terms that all these dudes exaggerate the story, just like a movie based on a true story they beef it up to make it more exciting etc… dudes are not killing all these people, selling all these drugs, spending or getting all this cash etc… its all a persona, an enhanced story to tell. To SOME its not as appealing if he said hey man I smoked a L and drank a Deuce of Heineken or whatever and kicked back with shorty on a Tuesday . . .

  • clarkmichelle

I thought the interview came from the heart. Future is a man that came from little to nothing, now look at him. You cant help but to admire such a BOSS/MAN, that grins so hard to change his life around!! But what I cant understand is why are people so evil? Reading some of these comments are just plain mean, and it’s not good to be that way.
