DJ Premier Talks Working On Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Buckshot” Track Featuring KRS-One

(AllHipHop News) Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are prepping to release their next full length album on February 26. This Unruly Mess I’ve Made will include contributions from several Hip Hop legends. For example, the track “Buckshot” features rap G.O.A.T. contender KRS-One and producing icon DJ Premier.

“Macklemore’s manager reached out to my manager Ian and told him that they wanted me to hook up a scratch sequence to tie in the lyrics that Ben [Macklemore] wrote,” explains Premier on how the song came together. “Ryan did the track and we got on the phone to discuss the theme about their younger days running the streets and tagging graffiti. I draw as well, so it made total sense!”

He continues, “After I sent my parts back, they asked if I knew how to get in touch with Kris [KRS-One]. I reached out to Kris’s wife and since he is a dope graffiti artist as well, he was the perfect choice and he laced the verse overnight. The whole combination made it a complete jam for the history books.”

Besides working with Macklemore, Lewis and KRS, Premo also produced a recent cut for Yuna’s upcoming album Chapters, due out on May 20. “Places To Go” provides a classic Hip Hop soundbed for the Malaysian singer-songwriter to display her vocals. Fans of the New York based super-producer should be on the lookout for PRhyme 2 with Royce da 5’9″ as well.

“rap G.O.A.T contender”…KRS ONE will still murk your favorite emcee easily.

    • rocnation30

U must’ve been born in the 70’s…. **shrugs***

      • RichFromBX

based on your user name you must be forced to type out your responses because you can’t speak with Jay Z’s dick in your mouth.

Let’s see if in 25-30 years anyone is still checking for any artist that dropped in the last 5 years…So is the Beatles, James Brown or Rolling Stones not be considered greats within their genres because they dropped in the 50s and 60s?

  • KRS sounds good on this one

  • TRUTH SPEAKER

Dj Premier just featured on scratches is becoming a corny trend. These people should be using his production.

    • Dan Tebasco

Either Premo’s prices are too high or he’s lost his touch on the production side… Either way, I’m sure no one would reject a Premo beat

      • Dope

Preemo is a classic one, but he hasn’t changed his style since he came into the game and even for somebody who enjoys the classics and hates the current rap scene and their beats, even for me Preemo can get a bit boring.

    • Savimbi

I respect preme and everything he’s done in the past but he’s style is a bit redundant, i.e Phryme w/ 5’9….the bars were there but that production was super stale.

      • TRUTH SPEAKER

how could he be inspired to make dope sh!t when he’s working with boring Royce and only sampling equally boring Adrian Younge? Wasn’t Preme supposed to do an album with Loaded Lux? What ever happened to Pete Rock vs Dj Premier? Sh!t, I’m still waiting for the NYGZ album….

  • The Legendary Troll

who the f*ck listens to Macklemore? white folks yall gas him up too much

    • Drake’s 3rd best Ghostwriter

And ya’ll gas up Future and Lil Boosie. See, I can blame an entire race for a couple of wack artists too. It’s easy.

      • The Legendary Troll

future and boosie get radio play at least

      • Drake’s 3rd best Ghostwriter

And white people control radio, right ? So if “white folks where gassing him up” they’d put him on the radio more, wouldn’t they ? Or do white people NOT control radio ?

      • Drake’s 3rd best Ghostwriter

Someone hurt there brain trying to respond to this. I saw a lot of typing going on but no reply

      • Butch Magnus Milosevic

You do know MacKlemore gets plenty of radio spins, just not on hip hop radio, which confirms the first guys “white folks gassing him” statement. Y’all made that dude a star, not us…

      • Butch Magnus Milosevic

Yeah, but you sound stupid because the originators of the art are black. Outside of Eminem, 90% of white rappers are wack appropriators, and playing the race card doesn’t change that…

      • Drake’s 3rd best Ghostwriter

I get it. It’s only okay to be garbage at what you do if it was invented by someone who’s the same color as you;.

      • Butch Magnus Milosevic

No, its never cool to be garbage. Just like its not cool to play the race card in the defense of a garbage artist, which is what youre doing…

  • THISIS50

not even DJ Premier & KRS is gonna make me listen to Macklemore

    • The Truth✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

I bet you still did and said “this song wasn’t bad at all”.

      • THISIS50

        no, haven’t heard it.

      • The Truth✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

I stand by my statement. LOL

      • THISIS50

        OK LOL

    • Dope

That only makes you a bigot, doesn’t devalue their music at all. And I’m not even a fan, heard a few songs, not really something special that stands out in my ears, but they are better than 90% of crap that’s out there as they at least make rap music, which you can’t say for most of the game.

      • Butch Magnus Milosevic

If you don’t listen to their songs, how can you say they’re better than 90 % of other artist. Your just playing the race card to defend this dude you like, and its corny…

      • Dope

Can you please re-read my comment and try to comprehend it?
As I sad I’ve heard some of their songs. I don’t listen to them on a daily basis because they’re not that interesting to me, but when they randomly come on the radio I won’t skip it either. And what I’ve heard is better than all Young Thugs of this world and the rest of similar crap which makes up about 90% of the current rap game.

      • Butch Magnus Milosevic

If Young Thug, and the like are 90% of the rap game, then than shows how little you know…

      • Dope

They are 90% of the mainstream. I don’t count underground as most of those guys are local and they have no influence on people who are not familiar with rap. To the world (outside of rap) mainstream is the representation of what rap is (as with everything else) and currently people like YT and others make the majority of that.

      • Butch Magnus Milosevic

Youre a part of the problem

      • Dope

I don’t buy their music or go to all these wack artists shows, so how am I the problem? The problem is in the masses who will pay to see their concert and thus enable them to earn money. If there was no such easy money to be made, they wouldn’t be doing what they are doing in the rap game. For my end of the bargain I choose to whom I give my money and no young thug and similar acts will ever get my money, not even trough a youtube view.

  • therealest1

I know money always comes in handy, but I still don’t think it’s cool for these respected veterans to collaborate with a bitch ass Wigger who sought camera time for attending a protest for Michael Brown’s justice.

  • Q.

    Dope track…Vintage Primo + Vintage KRS = W

  • I respect this…. I put in this work LAST YEAR for the Graff culture… Search g00gle or Y0utu8e for iL4M – GRAFF ART
