No More CDs From Kanye West

(AllHipHop Music) The physical CD has been going the way of the cassette tape and now Kanye West seems to expedite the demise of the tech artifact.

The rapper/fashion designer has proclaimed on Twitter that he will no longer be creating CDs for his music. The rapper’s most recent effort, The Life Of Pablo, was released exclusively on Jay Z’s TIDAL streaming service and never was distributed to any other outlet. As a result, the subscriber base at TIDAL reportedly doubled.

Check out what he said below.

By the way, Kim K posted a nude selfie. The Wests are winning!

  • RichFromBX

it’s straight disrespectful to be posting nude pics when you’re a married and a mother of two. What someone does in their 20s is one thing but this chick is in her 30s, married and has two kids.

Maybe I’ll old fashion but I ain’t having it with my wife throwing up those pics, she’s her own woman and free to do what she wants so have it but, that don’t mean I have to stick around…

    • Weedras

who’s she disrespecting though if her husband don’t have any issues with it…

      • RichFromBX

you disrespect your kids…what you do before them is one thing but after you have them you have to be a better example.

This is a desperate cry for attention…it means you have no self-worth because you believe that unless your titties are out no one cares about your existence.

  • Q.

Believe it or not, people still buy CDs. People like to have something tactile to hold and look at, and artists still invest in nice artwork for package covers and liners. Meanwhile, that TLOP cover was boo-boo.

    • therealest1

You’re right about people still buying CDs. It’s a generational thing based on the formatting.

Most folks who grew up in the era where rap emerged in the 80s were born and bred into buying physical formats. They began by buying either vinyl or more likely cassette which I always dreaded. CDs existed in the 80s, but they were more of a luxury option as they were exorbitantly priced at that time. Don’t forget how wasteful society was when they had the actual CD album cases packaged into external long rectangular shaped thin cardboard packaging! That was an extreme waste of space literally! I would say people born in the early 80s and before still buy CDs because they were born and bred into that way of owning music.

You’re so right about fans liking to have artwork and having a physical keepsake. I like to read the notes and credits myself believe it or not. I’ll always give the late, great 2Pac credit for learning about what “interpolation” meant as it was printed in All Eyez On Me album cover. That term was used in the credits for “No More Pain” song as 2Pac acknowledged he got the idea to put his own spin of using Method Man’s opening lines of “Bring The Pain” for the chorus on his song.

I would say people born in the late 80s to present mostly download music because they’ve been born and bred into using computers as they have become prevalent in society now.

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Cassettes stood the test of time, I still have a few laying round and they sound just as good as they did when I bought them. Plus cassette hold music that out of print, so does cd’s.

      • therealest1

Damn, I just hated cassettes even when they were the prevalent format up until the mid-90s. They were susceptible to damages and wear because of the tape format inside of it being able to tangle.

I also dreaded the fact you couldn’t go directly to a song on cassette like you could with a CD.

I’m glad I phased out all my cassettes by the mid-90s and got them on CD format until this day.

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

LOL, Depend on what kind of player u had. Long as a break was in between songs, u could skip to the next track. I’ll put a Chrome?Metal tape up against a cd, and u couldn’t tell the different. CD made us lazy and mp3 even lazier. i wouldn’t lend m tape out cause some players hold the tape tight while other wouldn’t so when u get it back it unravel. back then very few songs needed skipping(depending on your taste). Besides analog still sound more raw than digital, some musician prefer it to this day.

      • DJ7

60 min black and gold Maxells…90 min always got too tight and eventually broke, causing the user to turn into Mcgyver with the scotch tape

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Never really have that problem, until I let some one use it, but I get your point. 120 minutes was notorious for that.

      • Q.

There are pros and cons to both CD and downloadable/streaming formats. Overall, the internet has turned the music industry on its head and has been very convenient for consumers, though less profitable for artists. The download model favors more singles-driven output–in the CD era, at least singles were more profitable than the 99¢ model; CD singles cost about $5-$7 with a possible B-side, remix and an instrumental, often worth the buy. File sharing opened a Pandora’s box. At the end of the day, it’s up to artists and fans to honor each other.

    • worst cover of all time!! and kanye claims to be an artist!! lmfao the guy he had make that cover, is a photographer that takes gay pics of dudes

    • TheAfroRican

Reasons I like purchasing CDs. I like reading the credits.

The last CD I bought was Nas “Life Is Good”. Still listening to that album.

  • Eli Pinilla

If I need to be online to listen to something I purchased, I don’t want it.

    • Anthony Mason

I like mp4 because I can still burn them. I like CDS still too though. They play louder in the car. Less sound loss…

  • Weedras

first apple with their bullshit Apple music update which now makes your apple device block your CDs etc that you own from being added to the device.. now this mofo trying to push us into going full on cloud/steaming music… i enjoy my lil mix of some songs in the cloud and some songs on a CD….

    • therealest1

Please elaborate on Apple music update. I don’t know anything about it. I have an iTunes on my computer where I can upload my physical CDs onto it to build my music library for my handy iPod.

I agree with you about spiting streaming music. I believe you’re from the era of getting music via physical copy as well based on your feedback. I prefer CDs myself since they’ve been mastered in a factory so therefore sound quality should be at an optimum theoretically.

I don’t like mp3 formatting because I believe sound quality will diminish by default based on the fact the songs had to be compressed to make it massively small to fit into a large capacity device such as a hard drive or mp3 playing device.

      • iTunes / iPhone has a $10 month plan for unlimited music. So going forward you can’t upload CD’s to the iPhone (according to user above) but I think you still can I haven’t tried it. Sound quality is optimum if played over the wifi or data (as stated in Apple Music fine print). I’ve went the digital route and haven’t bought a CD in years

      • therealest1

        Thanks for clarifying.

I’m still sticking to my guns of refusing to subscribe to a streaming service. I always felt it was better economically to pay upfront to own an iPod than to pay a monthly subscription fee. I feel the upfront cost of an iPod will save money in the long run over a monthly subscription in 1.5 years.

Upfront cost: you pay once saving you money in the end.

Monthly subscription: you keep paying monthly costing you more money over time.

I prefer iPod since I can upload only the albums and songs I like to go to my iPod. I don’t need a library of classics and unlimited crap with a streaming service.

      • Weedras

here’s how it goes if you subscribe to apple music it will enable itunes music match this will then block you from adding your OWN frigging music to YOUR device as long as its enabled .. i’ve figured out a work around i’m a huge dancehall/reggae fan and not all the music is on itunes so what i have to do is disable itunes music match which cause me to lose all my playlists and shit… and then add the music i want from my PC.. its just frigging stupid in my opinion..

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

        Correct.

  • Sorry folks. I can’t even remember the last time I went to the store to buy a CD. We knew this day was coming long before Kanye opened his mouth. Hell, if you go to test drive a car, they don’t even offer CD players in the vehicles any more. This shouldn’t be a shock to anybody. I don’t know about Tidal but Yeezy ain’t saying nothing new. Innovate and move on.

  • STEPH

This is old, I stopped buying CD’s a long time ago I Bluetooth shit right into my car right off You tube. The days of me buying “Riding Dirty” by UGK on 4 or 5 different occasions because my favorite song “High Life” was scratched have been over. The days of CD cases taking up room in my vehicle are over….smh adapt to new technology and keep it moving.

    • therealest1

No problem with your way as it suits you.

You have an accurate logic with CDs getting scratched eventually especially in a car. But that’s why I always burn a copy for the car despite the original sound quality will be diminished by default based on the fact it’s a copy, not the original from a factory. I’ll never have to worry about replacing the original that way, just burn a new copy when it wears out in the car.

I still like owning CDs since I grew up that way. I’m a person who likes maintaining keepsakes. But I honestly don’t own much contemporary shit as it is that bad in quality and creativity. I’m glad I own real physical copies of classic or really good albums from the 80s and 90s. I only own real copies in the current era of veteran artists or very few contemporary artists.

I just haven’t bought many CDs the past several years based on the fact it’s mostly shitty music out there. We clearly ain’t in the 80s and 90s!

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Cd’s will never die, Burn Cd’s for my friend all the time.

  • STEPH

I love buying CDs and will never stop, thankfully I dont buy Ye’s music so it doesnt effect me!!!

  • Fla_Boi954

The last cd I bought was Pastor Troy Face Off back in 2001… worth every penny!!!

  • Michael Robertson

Cool…..guess we should have stopped it with the vinyls too in this sense. At the end of the day I understand where they are coming from but don’t tell me you guys didn’t or don’t enjoy looking through the book you get, the poster and all that shit when you bought a cd. I remember looking through Dr Dre 2001 album booklet for days.

I have no intentions of ever listening to this album now, Kanye doesn’t care about the ‘art’ like he says he does. The release on tidal has nothing to do with protecting the artistry and all the bullshit he talks. At the end of the day let’s face it. Kanye West the creator is gone. He doesn’t produce anymore, he has guys do it all for him, we know on record he doesn’t write. So where is the ‘artistry’ from him?

  • The Legendary Troll

you cool with your wife doing that sh*t for the public???? come on ye
