The Takeover: Jay Z Jet Company Bolstering East Coast Operations

(AllHipHop News) When you are a boss, you do boss things and owning or backing a jet company is definitely on that list of boss things to do.

Recently Jay Z’s company JetSmarter announced a planned expansion to take over the East Coast with more options for its members and guest consumers.

No stranger to the G4’s, G5’s and other lavish private jets, Jay Z has often talked about flying on jets in raps songs like, “What More Can I Say” on The Black Album.

“Young H-O / Pitch the yay faithful
Even if they patrol I make payroll
Benz paid for /Friends they roll
Private jets down to Turks and Caicos”- Jay Z

JetSmarter is backed by over $50 million in funding, and Hova’s Fort Lauderdale, FL based startup will feature the ability to book on-demand.

While members can now schedule flights on private jets between New York City and Boston, Jay Z’s flight company currently offers over 20 routes.

Routes include flights from London to Geneva, Paris to Nice, Kuwait to Dubai, New York to Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles.

According to Bizjournals.com, JetSmarter has a  mobile app for convenience and charges its members an annual fee.

If you don’t have the $9,000 annual fee, non-members can also book on-demand private jet flights and rent the entire jet or share seats with others.

Jay Z has been busy lately recently signing Khaled to the management extension of his company Roc Nation.

Nice move on Jay’s part. Having said that I wonder what his percentage of the company is? As we saw with the Crooklyn Nets Jay was a micro-minority investor 1/16 tenth of 1%. Still more money than I or most of us have but far from an owner. The sports management business is similar he partnered with an already established agency, essentially they use Jay’s name to draw people and give him a cut. Yet on these sites they spit out article titles like he owns the entire thing. No hate towards him, but it mis-informs the simple minded masses…. Once again I think it is a very good business move!

      • ZUBU

Just STFU… Everyone here knows you’re a fraud…. Go away.. I’ve been ignoring you since the weekend and your so-called boy didn’t show up for the meet. You talked tons of stuff… Then the last couple of days you have tried to comment on my comments SMH I’m done with you go away with your child games, name calling, racist antics… Just Go Away… You hate Black people which is cool just go to the Neo-Nazi site and kick it with your boys…. I’m certain I speak for many when I say go away, far, far away……..

      • Inmadopicouroz✓QUEENSᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

        Fu(k you hoeee

I’m certain I speak for many when I say go away, far, far away……..

      • Inmadopicouroz✓QUEENSᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

the post wasnt even to you i accidently did it. oops.

    • Brook York

It is a nice move, don’t pay attention to the articles. I think Jay is very capable of counting his own money on this site or any other site.

      • ZUBU

What are you talking about? I posed a simple question then you went left field, read dude. Nobody said Jay can’t count!

      • Brook York

No one said anything about Jay not being able to count, i didn’t go left. I just noticed how you broke down his percentage. It’s not that serious.

      • ZUBU

You did say “I think Jay is capable of counting his own money on this site or any other site.” Not certain what that was in response to? As far as the breakdown of his Nets ownership he lied and the site perpetuated his lies. Jay on songs talking about I’m the owner, he lied like he owned the Barclay’s arena. The Russian dude owns that before him the old white dude owned the majority. A lot of people don’t read.

      • Brook York

If you feel like he lied, just say he lied, break that shit down like you just did because otherwise, it would just look you are simply counting his money. I read it by the way.

We can agree to disagree, okay?

      • ZUBU

I don’t care if he lied or not, you’re taking this real personal. More so than being critical of him I was blasting these sites for putting misinformation out to the ill-informed masses. I read the news business, political, sports, etc. So I knew the old dude was the money behind it. Later I knew the Russian Billionaire was buying his share. While most hip hop heads were running around talking about how Jay owned the team. Even after he sold his micro-minority share people were on these sites talking about how he still owned the arena… SMH…. It seems like you counting his paper more than me…. The only Black American that owns a team is Mike Jordan… Not even Magic Johnson who has plenty of paper has a minority share of the Dodgers….

The way business works I’m involved in several small businesses, I own two of them a couple more I’m an investor in, but I don’t own them… One of them is a cell phone service called (TELL ALL MOBILE). I’m a small investor in that company. We lease our cell tower use through T-Mobile, we provide service to customers nationwide. Steady building the business up, but I have a small interest in that company…

      • Brook York

But does it even matter now?

  • The City

If you paid Searchlight production for the samples then ultimately you’ve paid Nas.

    • Inmadopicouroz✓QUEENSᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

      enjoy greyhound.

      • The City

        Enjoy your Camel

    • STEPH

MC Search own Searchlight productions…..best believe he got the lions share and broke NAS off scraps.

      • The City

MC Search said Jay didn’t know what he was talking about…he said Nas got a unheard of at that time royalties agreement of 25% and it was confirmed by ASCAP.

      • STEPH

Where you hear that from bruh? What source did you get that from? Because it’s a known fact that NAS was linked with that production company. Now if you give me the source than I’ll be a man and admit that I’m wrong, but I am pretty sure I’m not.

      • The City

        Hiphopdx

The reason that Jay thought I owned Nas’ publishing was I was working at Def Jam at the time and he was about to put out ‘Dead Presidents’ and he needed the sample cleared,” MC Serch said. “So, I said ‘I’ll hook you up. I’ll give you a fair deal. I’m not gonna jerk you’…So, I cleared the sample for like $2,000…He paid Zomba, but he thought I was involved. So, he thought my company was called Serchlite Publishing, which it wasn’t. It only became Serchlite Publishing last year…You know how much love I get from that line though?”

Prior to speaking on Nas’ publishing and Jay Z’s “Takeover” mention, MC Serch recalled meeting Nas in the studio and assisting the rapper with securing a fair label deal as his manager. Serch ended one potential deal for the rapper, a deal he says was “bullshit,” before approaching Russell Simmons and later Columbia Records.

“So, Nas comes back the next day and he tells me ‘Yo, I need your help. I got this deal. I don’t feel good about it,’” Serch said. “He just wanted my help…He wasn’t signed to anybody. Stretch and Reef had made him an offer. The offer was $150,000 and 50 percent of his publishing. No advance on the publishing. Nas felt some type of way about it. And he asked me to help and I said ‘I can’t help you unless you’re signed to Serchlite. I’m not gonna go negotiate with friends.’ He’s like ‘Alright, I’ll sign.’

“So, Nas signed with Serchlite and I gave him a very fair deal,” he added. “My whole thing was I didn’t want to be the Jew who jerked black men. Like I wasn’t gonna be that guy. So, I go to Stretch and Reef and I said ‘Listen, I can’t let him sign this deal. You know this deal is bullshit. He’s like ‘Listen, this is what [Commons] is offering. Come on Serch, don’t get in the way.’ I’m like—I said ‘I can’t. That’s like—it’s a shady deal. It’s like a 1988 deal. Nas is gonna be the greatest emcee of our generation.’ Helen Keller could see he was gonna be the genius that he was.”

      • STEPH

        yeah ok bruh lol.

  • DLOUPO

More shit people can’t afford one day jay will get it

    • Sean Power

this company marketed for average person, there is market your just not it

      • DLOUPO

      • Yabiggirl

Lol, that was funny!! Either you live the lifestyle of flying private or you don’t. This isn’t supposed to be a bus service to cater to everyday folks lol&smh, people wanna be apart of everything instead of just staying in ya lane

  • RayStantz

$9000 annually ain’t bad at all especially if you’re a frequent flyer. That’s a hell of a discount for a private jet. One roundtrip ticket for me flying for work is about $1000 on a commercial flight. The membership would pay for itself within two months in my case. They just need more routes.

    • ZUBU

Bro that 9000k annual fee does not pay for your flights that is a different fee. If you pay the annual fee then your flights are at a discounted rate. If you don’t pay the annual fee then your flights are at a higher rate… Much like many credit cards have an annual fee….. They are not gonna let you charter private flights whenever, wherever you want for 9k a year… If so I got 9k for them right now….

      • RayStantz

I haven’t inquired but the jetsmarter website says members catch free flights daily to their destinations that are predetermined. You only paying extra if you charter a jet on demand which is like 22k a flight

      • ZUBU

Bro, I peeped the site a bit. I very well may be wrong; it seems as if you do get unlimited flights within their scheduled routes for the annual fee. Obviously to go to other destinations its additional. Yet I wonder how booked their scheduled flights are? Even if it is pre-paid, if you have problems with availability then it does not work well.

Real talk though, as an intelligent brother I try to deal with logic. When someone can logically explain to me our differences, then I am man enough, person enough to acknowledge such… Peace to you my brother…

    • Mec-One

And he moving like they moving ….quietly so when the news hits the streets, the deal is done and he off to the next one

      • Yabiggirl

That’s the smartest thing to do! We gotta understand to move in silence, even with local sh*t. Now a days people promote all they moves on FB and instagram before they even put anything into play. By not announcing shit, you don’t give anybody the opportunity to try to stop you!!

      • ZUBU

        Word….

    • Jaymat_

I don’t think anyone in corporate America is worried about Jay-Z. Capitalism knows no color except green.

    • ZUBU

Pac said years ago “THE MOST FEARED THING IS AN EDUCATED BLACK MAN.” Obviously education comes in many forms… Jay is a smart brother… I don’t agree with all his moves but as he said “DON’T KNOCK THE HUSTLE.”

  • Brook York

    Good look for him.

Ill fly commercial no shame in that safety record.

  • Tall Shon or T.S

The app is cool. I flew my company to Vegas using this service and it was on point. I am not a member so i got charged the non member fee but it still wasnt bad for 5 people.

    • what were the numbers? just curious.

      • Tall Shon or T.S

It was like 4500 give or take. I didnt book it to have the plane to ourselves but we was lucky to have the plane to ourselves going and coming back. My team loved it because most of them never been on a plane. I plan on getting the full membership later this year before it go up. If you take a bunch of people it is a good discount plus i can fly me and my wife for free with the membership to La & NY and we go there for business and play at least a few times a year.

      • if thats round trip between 5 people that isnt bad at all. ny to la is sweet. now to miami too they’ll make a killing. thanks for the info.

      • Tall Shon or T.S

Dont get it twisted I was worried about trying it at first but it was a good investment.

  • water_ur_seeds

Someone ask Dame if Jay is his own boss for this company though, that should start of a good debate haha

Still props to Jay for making moves, Nas also making moves under the radar with his Tech Companies too I believe, shout out to both these dudes…

The ‘old school’ dudes like Jay, Nas, Eric B all about getting that non music money… Its not about selling records or having hit, get that money and invest wisely…

    • Papi Peligro

If you want to understand how the media insidiously helps corruption spread around the world, and criminals enrich themselves, look closer at the fine print of this story. No – this is not a shot at Jay Z.
