Busta Rhymes Writes Touching, Heartfelt Letter About Phife

(AllHipHop News) The world of Hip-Hop continues to mourn the sudden loss of Phife Dawg, a founding member of A Tribe Called Quest.

Long time friend and collaborator, Busta Rhymes finally took to social media to explain his emotional state in the aftermath of Phife’s passing.

As a member of Leaders of the New School, Busta and Phife worked together quite frequently. In the letter, Busta talks about their 28-year old friendship.

I had to spend the last 2 days going thru a lot of honest thoughts and emotions b 4 I spoke because this one hurts soooo fucking much. I can’t begin to explain what @iamthephifer and @qtiptheabstract and @jarobiwhite and @alishaheed means to me and how much they have done for my life. These guys are my big brothers, my friends, and the dudes that always protected me frm the bullshit that came with life both personally and professionally in a way that only big brothers can do it. If u look at this picture closely, on the night of one of my my most magical moments in my 25 year journey in music DEC.5th 2015, I was able to have a dream come true in a way that it never had and that was to perform What’s the scenario (original and the rmx) for the 1st time ever back to back with all of the original members of Leaders of the New School and A Tribe Called Quest since we recorded these songs in 1991 & 1992. That night was so magical with all of the love that was under one roof that it’s too much to get into the details of but again please take another look at this picture, if u notice @iamthephifer had his hand on my back consoling me as I kneeled down to give thanks crying tears of joy because of how proud of a moment that was for me being able to end a 4 hour set with brothers who put me in a position where I was able to tell my mother she will not have to work for anyone over 20 yrs ago. The belief that they had in me puttin’ me and Leaders on that record, putting me last on the record because back then being last on the record meant EVERYTHING, I had no idea at that time what they were setting me up in life to be but thru out the years it was so consistent their love and concern for my well being that it was no way I couldn’t see it. Ever since that concert I have had the opportunity to spend time with Phife way more than I have been able to in over 10yrs. I’ve known this man for over 28yrs and I think I’ve seen him in the last 4 months the happiest that I’ve seen him in a very long time. It was apparent that every wish that he had was coming true and I can honestly say that I was witnessing the anointing frm a bird’s eye view 1st hand. Until we meet again King, RIP

Check out the epic reunion in December of last year, where Leader of the New School and ATCQ got together to perform “The Scenario.”

  • Nightmare

Busta most definitely breathed fire onto the Scenario record.

I still remember when they performed The Scenario on Arsenio Hall.

I mourn the Busta from 1997. He had all hardcore rhymes and beats….Now this meatloaf neck nigga is putting out a random nigga rapping about coke like it’s that hot fire….

    • YoungZari

      meatloaf neck lmfao.

  • bigdoe6

Busta is a legend. I respect what him, leaders, and ATQC bought to the game. As far a solo artist I think he lost focused on what it takes to be a great leader. The flipmode squad was supposed to be the next or go down in history as a reflection of ATQC/LONS. He always had talent but he seems like a screw everybody else type of cat. Rest in peace Phife.

  • WORLD DOMINATOR

We NEED to bring REAL LYRICAL TALENT Back & Celebrate EXCELLENCE! That mush mouthed, not sayin’ nothing trap crap rap is KILLIN’ Hip Hop! F*CK the LAMES, celebrate SKILLS not DUMBNESS!

    • The City

The artist that meet your criteria are already on deck…we’re just to fickle as fans to embrace them.

    • Plenty of them out there …turn off the radio

  • Phifes diabetes was on point.

  • hoeyuno

Real talk.. I didn’t know they all came together last year to perform scenario. Dope hip hop moment.

    • They’ve done it a few times…started a few yrs ago when Busta had them at the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival…probably done it about 5 times since

      • hoeyuno

        Nice

  • ZUBU

Dope show, damn I miss that type of shiiittt!

Busta’s letter was very heartfelt. Two things I really and truly like was when he thanked The tribe for basically putting him on and setting him for life; then I loved the fact that he talked about retiring his moms. I love when brothers get on and take care of their family. I’m old fashioned but I believe in taking care of those who took care of you…… I’m far from wealthy but as soon as I made even a little bit of change I was buying my mom stuff, sending her money, same with my grandparents, aunts, and all of them had more money than me. I just had that desire to thank them for all they had done for me when I was coming up…. Sadly my mom (absent father), grandparents, uncles are all gone now, I just have two aunts left and I still bless them….
    ————————————–
Not to preach but brothers let your loved ones know how you feel about them, tell them and show them that you love and appreciate them…. It’s cool to chase the chicks, buy nice whips, and kicks, etc. but make sure you bless Ma Dukes, Big Momma, etc. Peace…

    • That’s the realest sh*t of the day right there. If you ain’t in that rap game to better your family, what the f*ck are you doing? Most people’s moms dropped at least a cool $500k in theIt child’s upbringing. The least you can do is let moms cool her heels for a few decades if you have the means to. I love this sh-*t by Busta.

      • ZUBU

You speaking the truth! Like you said Bro if a person has the means they totally need to retire moms. I remember Deion Sanders talking about it at his HOF induction about his mom working as a maid at the hospital, and how once he hit the NFL moms never had to work again…

    • D. Rose in the paint

Tribe didnt put Busta on…..Leaders of the New School was already out…..they just let him shine extra hard on Scenario which kinda got Busta buzzing as a SOLO artist …..but Leaders of the New was already VERY POPULAR before that

      • ZUBU

Yes in aware LONS, Were around prior to that song. Reason why I said basically put him on and for him set for life. If you read his entire letter you will see I was quoting Busta. So no need to correct me.

  • Uncle Ruckus

RIP Phife and how real does Busta sound when he doesn’t use the N word? His sentiments to me seem to be alot more powerful. Calling someone King is a lot more respectful than calling them a nigga …. imho.

    • YoungZari

      That isn’t a opinion, though, it’s a FACT.

      • Uncle Ruckus

        Thank you your imperial majesty!

  • Anthony Mason

Yeah everyone is going to call your number you little homo….
