Questlove Talks His Appreciation For 90’s Hip Hop (VIDEO)

THE ROOTS DRUMMER PLAYS “UNDERRATED”

(AllHipHop News) The Roots are one of the standout Hip Hop acts to emerge from the 1990’s.

In an interview with Pitchfork, the group’s drummer Questlove talked about his appreciation for the rap music from the last decade of the 20th century.

“No period of Hip Hop really contextualized and kept alive the music of the past that came before it more than 90’s Hip Hop,” said Questlove.

He added, “My dad was straight conservative, right when it came to music. He used Jazz to wipe the demons of all purple and Hip Hop away from me. After while I started hearing that stuff in the Hip Hop music I was listening to.”

Questlove went on to acknowledge producers such as Jazzy Jeff, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and DJ Premier for using “the boring section of your parent’s record collection” to create new music.

“That’s the element that I miss in 1990’s Hip Hop,” stated the Questlove Supreme host.
