Proceeds from the premiere of the upcoming crime drama American Gangster will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of America it was announced today [September 26].

The highly anticipated movie is the true story of 1970's crime lord Frank Lucas, who smuggled millions of dollars worth of heroin into the United States using the coffins of American soldiers returning from the Vietnam War.

"The Boys & Girls Club exerted a profound influence on me and so many of my peers growing up, and I consider it an honor to give back," Washington said.

American Gangster features rappers like T.I., Common, RZA and others starring opposite Oscar Award winning actors Denzel Washington, who plays Frank Lucas and Russell Crowe, who plays Richie Roberts, a detective who is Lucas' nemesis.

"I spent more than a decade as a member of the Club in Mount Vernon, and I'm extremely pleased the production is willing to make 'American Gangster's' premiere a benefit for an organization that plays such an important, positive role in the lives of young people today," Washington.

The premiere of the movie is sponsored in part by Volkswagen and will be held on Friday, October 19, 2007, the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem, followed by a VIP reception.

In related news, Jay-Z recently announced that he is recording a concept album titled American Gangster, separate from the film's official soundtrack.

If it was not for Beyoncee, Jay-Z would not be where he is today.  Beyoncee is what makes him "hot" if you will.  She upgraded that nigga.  Then she from H-town too, so you know she gotta upgrade him.  Jay-z, you owe beyonce about 200 million dollars nigga, and you know it

just because Denzel entertains you with the movie "American Gangster", does not mean he has to mislead you.  And that is why he is donating the money.  Now Jay-Z on the other hand, he just doesn't give a sh**.  I doubt he'll be donating. He might donate a million like he did with the Katrina victims.  But like he said in his song about Katrina.  he doesn't give a dime or a damn about what happens.  You have to wonder exactly what are some of these peoples' motivation sometimes. But at the end of the day, he can do what he wanna do with his money.  he aint sh** 2 me anyway

Most boys in girls clubs are in the hood and they've seen way worse in their lives than what is coming from the movie.

We as a people always bitch. If somebody doesn't give money then we say they don't give back, if they donate money then it's bad.

Question is are you donating money (not only pointed to you hotrock11) but we as a people period?
