Thanks for the sage insight, Wendy. A lot of mediocre music is being generous. Most of the "artists" today are just trying to come up on some lucky ish. Wendy, I think an important question a lot of imprint owners, and REAL artists would like to know is: Where can an underfunded imprint, or an artist looking to develop an independent imprint look to get venture investment dollars. I'm on my second imprint now, and banks simply won't loan you money to start a label. That leaves so many would-be entrepreneurs- many with talent- looking to the street for money. Where can one turn for LEGAL start up money?

Great article...plain as day IF your reading and studying your craft correctly BUT, at the end of the day...Wendy summed it up with:

"It takes anywhere from $200,000 to $1 Million per artist to properly promote a rap record (even regionally)"

...I'll say "ANY GENRE" of music for that.

This is valuable information.

But this is why you gotta have another source of money to help finance your promo(don't quit ya day job). So many artist get lost tryin to market therre image. But that's the main way to get your product in demand....besides performing and through word of mouth. Distribution through CD baby or something is the easy part. Getting that "PULL" will only happen by markeing and generatig a buzz. And it take dollars to pay marketers and then you gotta make sure they pushing the product in areas that couldn't normally be reached as easy.

Whats Interesting is that we look at rappers everyday on tv that dont even know this stuff.
But if this imformation was broken down to simplicity, there would be millions of rappers with deals.
The industry would be flooded.
