Ok producers, the battle rages on. Last week we had a very close match up between Meta Maestro and Battle Axe. Meta Maestro was the overwhelming favorite because of his versatility.

This week was a very difficult decision. In particular there were about 5 producers that could have been picked to compete, so we had to go with who we felt offered some different looks. If you feel that you've been robbed, don't hesitate to submit the same material for next week.

Big ups to all those who give creative feedback. In the end it's all about uplifting each other to become stronger.  The judging criteria is below....

Creativity: The drum patterns, the instrument flow, the vibe.

Originality: Is this different or just the Timberland, Kanye, Neptunes, rip-off!!?

Marketability: Can we imagine someone rhyming or singing on this beat?

    Structure: Changes, bridges, hooks etc..

im more of a "chop the sh!t out that sh!t ! " dude, but my pick goes to fame. although "1978" brought me back...i would burn "on time" , and "live" before the contenders beats. you almost lost me with ya c babi tho.

i try to keep it short and to the point...but i couldnt judge the bridge being they are only 1 min samples. drums were cool throughout.

No offense to previous contestants but now it's a competition.

Iron Horse. My Man! I loved every beat. You took two samples Wu-Tang used and made them sound new (1978 is my shit). Plus you used my secret stash with the last sample on 'Perfect Time'. Be happy I've used them so much that I past'd on that one.

Fame. You got it my dude. I can't remember where the sample on 'On Time' is from but I was gonna use that. 'Live' is the shit I was gonna use that to. I was just focusing on that from Trouble Man not more than 2 weeks ago. Good shit fam. 'Ya C Babi' was crazy. I heard that beat before too. You might be on my myspace page already as a friend.

Yo this week's was the best imo. It's really really really hard for me to make a choice. But I gotta go with Fame on this one. Fame used samples that you never really heard used before. He style is so smooth. The way I grade the beats he only beat Iron by like 1 point, which isn't much going by the way I graded them. But, it was enough to seal the deal. Y'all both are truely gifted.

    I vote FaMe!

Next I got now ya dig. I'ma pull out the big guns of the week like Grouchy Greg's 'Raresoul Radio'. AHH can't front on these ones I got lined up for next week...

its called tube filtering doggy, gritty for a reason...gritty cause I feel like it...
we dont do plug ins & pc's at QBE, we use hardware strictly, for total control, from the sp1200 to the MPC60 on up, thats what I do on my WORST day...lol...

And I see someone caught the "perfect timing" joint...word, OG 45 right there....I spent ALOT of bread for that....

fame is sick as well, I peed his myspace page a week or so ago and heard 1 of these beats on there think it was that "ya c babi" joint (I got that sample, but I dont blow spots),
I was impressed either way...feelin the love from niggas though, word...ya'll do you and pick your pick, is what it is at the end of the day long as them checks get cut Im straight, lol....

Well unfortunately I read all the comments before I posted my response and I happened to stop by BIPRO20's myspace page and HAND DOWN THIS CAT MURDERS ANYTHING MOVING ON THIS PAGE!

You that "south meets west" joint is sickness. I was feelin the same way listening to these two different producers thinking that yall both have that same choppy style. I know some niggas like that but it aint my flavor and it definitely don't pop outside of VERY small circles. Not to say that yall should not keep grinding with what you got cause I am sure you can sell something to all the inde cats that spit over these type of beats. Not a world wide type of feeling...so my vote goes to BIPRO20 cause his joints are fire...coming from an emcee/producer/musician too! PEACE

My fav from each.  Perfect Time from Horse, and On Time from Fame.  I'm likin Horse's use of a freelance snare drum pattern.  His stuff is still soundin crisp.

But Fame's drums are addicting on that On Time beat, and his sample choice sounds better to me.

I think Horse is more consistent, but Fame has this one on lock.  Maybe if Horse brought out a diff selection of beats it could be diff

This is gonna depend on what the average person just "likes"...but I'll have to go with Iron Horse.  His tracks are more marketable and I could imagine someone flowing over the beats.  Fames tracks are cool, but it just felt like the samples "carried" the beats.  If you're gonna do that, the sample has to move me or have more of a melody.  The right emcee could carry the track tho.

Everyone on here is a musician of some sort...artist, writer, producer or whatever so everybody just keep doing ya thang!  I'm just not gonna make a huge fuss through my comments just for AHH to accept my submissions...gonna stay in my lane and keep spittin/producing that heat ya dig!

Appreciate all the love from niggas, my advice is live life striving for perfection reguardless, can't lose...word..

I try to keep my shit throwback cause the times right now, cause EVERBODY is gone digital these days and uses the same style and has the same sounds/mods (and people cant figure out why everybody sounds the same?!)
I got all that synthy shit thats real popular in my boards like the next man, its generic if anything, but all that 808/synth shit is no challenge for me as a producer, personally, I dont knock it but it aint enough for me...
My 12 years experience is 12 years of MY development for MY sound for MY shit Im workin on, thats what its supposed to be aint it?...niggas aint gotta fuck with it, but thats MY pain that goes into those beats yo...The Virus is the nigga on his job when your sleeping....247365 guranteed...
Im not worried about gaining worldwide appeal like someone said on here, but if it happens so be it, strike the head and the body will fall, pause...Myself, my nigga INTRIGUE and my DJ 7TRAIN are working the NYC club scene right now injecting this shit into niggas body again...thats all Im really worried about at the moment...

I already used pro tools, cool edit, FL and all that shit EARLY when nigags wasnt really up on it... back when FL was considered a 'toy' really, kinda like all that sound foundry shit...
I started out on a gemini sampler, shit wasn't easy like the programs today...you can have an orchestra in a few mouse clicks nowadays, you HAD to sample to get that shit in the begining if you didnt have that synth money which most niggas didnt, no need to knock it now cause you dont HAVE to do it, niggas kill me how they act like sampling is evil now or a curse something....I know it murks your publishing but damn!

niggas can say what they want but all those .wav files are samples at the end of the day too...same concept with hardware but you gotta actually dig (gasp!) for your own sounds...
This battle was ill, Fame came off...Im really feelin that "Live" joint yo, if this is my vote you already know what it is...but I dont knock nobodys hustle...to all the niggas who makes beats, know that your sound CAN always get better, even mine, dont be fooled...  thats what hip hop was created to be, no boundries & no limits...this why you got 40 year old rappers and producers STILL at it...good or bad...
This shit is big enough for niggas to do that grimy shit and do that club shit...all the high hats and 808 sounds and shit aint the end all be all though, all your beats aint GOTTA have that shit in it...the 808 is another generic drum kit that has alot of variations of the bass kick...all those niggas that brag about making their beats in impossible times like 10 minutes and shit are normally the same POPULAR niggas who use an 808 kit on EVERY BEAT...and are apart of the problem nobody seems to be able to figure out...real shit....Ima do me, Ima Ima do me...

I can't co-sign you on the first statement. Hip-hop is not just about sample vs. no samples. Both embody our craft and if some submits beats without samples and the beats with samples beat the out then it is what it is. But no one should be discriminated against just because of making beats one way or the other. I not saying that you were saying that intently. B.u.t. I wanted to clarify what you stated before ppl jumped on the sample vs. no sample bandwagon.

Your second statement is right on the money and works very well with the suggestion that I gave a few comments above.

Lastly. Your beats weren't bad at all. Actually they hot as shit. I just think that any submitting a beat that is not totally Hip-Hop intended (cause that's what most of us are here to hear) then a lil foot note should be placed next to the beat to give listeners a warning before they listen and just the producer a chance to be heard from fair judging ears. Feel where I'm coming from. I feel that people didn't give you a fair one (including myself) because we were expecting that raw, funky, dirty dirty or futuristic Hip-Hop. Not pop or R&B with are a part of beat making too, nawmean. I wanna hear different styles and types of beat to so I with on that. I just the submitter should that footnote next to the title of what type of genre they had in mind to give them a fair chance.

I put it like this. I'm SO confident in a majority of producers on this page that if someone got a beat from each one of us (including you) that it would be a hit album. It's talent here. The only thing left would be to see how we handle working with major artists and how we would handle the spotlight.

As always... 2K IS THE LABEL!

IronHorse, that first joint was nice. My problem with your tracks is the quality. I could barely turn my monitors up because some of the frequencies were peaking..either peaking or you applied too much limiting to the beat. If you didn't try to emulate that old school vintage hiphop sound; and would've just kept it clean; those last two beats would've been better.

FAME, out of the three beats I was feelin' Live. I'm a sucka for soul samples even though I can't flip them well. But you did your thing on that one.

I'm not voting for anyone, just dropping some feedback on the tracks. Both dudes keepin doin' ya thing.

This is for everyone asking about how to get in on the fun. No need to thank me either, I do it for the love. I want to thank y'all for hitting me up on MySpace (keep it coming) and for keeping it positive in here.  It really feels good to us forming our own AHH producer community.

    Welcome to

    AllHipHop.com's

    Beat Melee!!

The Beat Melee is a battle between AllHipHop.com community members who will use their best musical maneuvers and tactics to claim Beat supremacy.  The Beat Melee is a  weekly battle judged by the AllHipHop.com community.  The rules are as follows.

    Contestants must

    * Be members of AllHipHop.com's community ( If not, sign up with us)

    * Not be a professional or signed producer with industry placements

    * Submit three of your strongest, original, musical compositions/Beats to BEATDYNASTY@Gmail.com.  In the subject line please include "The Beat Melee." Submissions should be in Mp3 format and each beat should be no longer than 1 minute.  Beats may include hooks, but no full verses. Any less or more than three beats will not be considered.

    * Submit beats each Saturday between the hours of 1pm and 3pm EST. So all my UK, Asian, and African beatmakers, get your timezone correct. Any submissions outside of that time frame will not be considered valid.  Beat submissions from a previous week will also not be considered.  If you feel strongly about your submission, continue to submit as long as it's within the allotted time restriction.

    * Complete the form below within the e-mail text

Name:  ( The producer name you go by)

Community Name: ( The username you login with)

Hometown:  ( Where you are reppin')

Main weapon of choice: ( What is your main tool or equipment)

Length in the game: ( How long you've been doing beats)

Brief Description of yourself: ( No more than 4 sentences. You may include your myspace address, but no other promotional text)

Each submission will be critiqued by a team and in the first week, the two contestants with the strongest beats will be selected to compete in the first battle on Wednesday February 6th, 2008.  After the first "Beat Melee" one contestant each week will be chosen to take on the champion from the previous week.  A champion can claim four victories before being crowned with supremacy and immortalized in the Beat Melee Hall of Fame.

    Beats will be Judged on:

Creativity: The drum patterns, the instrument flow, the vibe.

Originality: Is this different or just the Timberland, Kanye, Neptunes, rip-off!!?

Marketability: Can we imagine someone rhyming or singing on this beat?

    Structure: Changes, bridges, hooks etc..

The winner each Wednesday is determined by the community votes in the comment section. Members may also comment on the beats and provide creative, constructive, positive feedback.  Members may comment as many times as they like, but their vote will only be counted once.  Official winners will be announced every Friday along with any additional instructions for weekly submissions.

This is for all the producers on AllHipHop.com that comment in the music section that the beats are lame and need changes. This is for all the producers that post their Myspace addresses hoping to get a look. Jump in the Melee and get your battle on!!!

    * By submitting to the "Beat Melee" you certify that you are the original creator and owner of the works and compositions submitted.  You also agree that AllHipHop.com has your permission to post the music you submit and will not be held liable in the event of any claims of copyright infringement or any other litigation pertaining to your submission. Ever heard of Teddy Riley, Jam Master Jay(RIP), Prince Paul, Bomb Squad, ummmm, ummmm Dr. Dre, Sir Jinx, Bobcat, BattleCat, Pete Rock,  oh yeah I forgot(not really), DJ Premier, the best, clowns? There were other sample producers pre-Kanye. His mentor is better than him too. No ID. Only reason that nigga Ye getting the att he getting is cause of Jay, his big brother. And I like Kanye's style. But it kills me when some no hip hop knowledge having crack baby wipes Kanye name from the crack of they stinking ass when another sample producer shows his gift. All his shit took me somplace....shit was like movie props and all he needed next was for someone to lay down the script. That 1978 joint made me want to put on a hoody and Bboy pose in the gutta'. God damn!!!!!!!!

Fame's "On Time" joint was fire! That shit has an ill swag to it. That "Live" joint was nasty too. Thats that high as hell, hittin corners, spilling my drink during the summertime shit! I couldnt really feel the direction of "Ya C Babi", it sounded cool, but didnt draw a picture for me, so that was why I gave it to The Virus.

fame, what i mean iz dat reason does not give u the the allowance to mess with other types of modules aside from what it's got. for example u can't attach it to external soft synths like hypersonic and legacy cell which have got some nice vintage instruments or even virtual samplers like kontact. u could still stay in the software realm and get pretty good shit cheap. and whether peeps say its good or not u can get virtually any software on peer to peer file sharing networks for absolutely nothing. shit like acid pro, fl studio, sonar and others give u that flexibility for almost zero cost and still have support for hardware if u choose to upgrade.
all i use 4 my beats are acid pro, sound forge and a yamaha PSR 1000 and a bunch of soft synths. no other hardware, and basically i can do just about anything: sample, compose, rewire and whateva. plus i got a whole bunch of soft synths i can control from my yamaha and the whole setup can't be more than a grand at most.
guess it jus depends on how serious ur hustle is.
