The Beat Melee Battle #11: Back to the Basics
Published Wednesday, April 30, 2008 6:22 PM
By Dynasty Williams
What's up beatmakers/producers/ or whatever title your music rock?  The Beat Melee is in full effect again this week, as we kick off another battle royal.  Last week was pretty intense as it was all about the original song.  The discussion in the comments got a little heated, but it's all love love.

What was a very close race between Raw Power and HecklerHouseEnt int he beginning turned in to a run away win for HecklerHouse.  Shout out to DJ Beatz for his joint too.  He really had a nice track there.  It's not all about being serious in Hip-Hop all the time so he definitely brought that fun perspective to the competition.

Let us offer a few tips for submitting tracks.  First, make sure that you send your beats so that they are playable through gmail.  There is no time to download anything because of the volume of submissions.  Second, make sure that your track will play correctly if at all.  We got a lot of submissions that either wouldn't play at all, or were distorted.  Lastly, please refrain from submitting on Tuesday night.  Even though the battle posts on Wednesday, and your track will get heard, tracks are reviewed as they are submitted. So if you wait until the last second, 40 tracks have been heard before yours.  Just a thought.

After this next week, we will go into "The Playoffs" like Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant.  We will be calling on the previous winners to battle it out for a couple weeks to crown one champion before we start over again.

Next week's battle will be only a ONE track submission.  We want to hear the Hardest, Gun Toting, Block Rocking, Gangsta Beat, you can possibly produce.  Think G-Unit, Early Ice-T, Geto Boys, or any other hard hitting rap group.

As always check out BeatDynasty.com for the latest in music production news, interviews, tech tips,  as well as a place to upload and sell your music.

Bangin tracks ma nig. tha michale jackson sample is fuckin nice. i like that one the best outta yo tracks. shit is hot. I semi co-sign wit   pyrexstirs    I dont think castlevania is the best track up there but i feel what he said bout the drums tho. the last beat sound like somethin nas should spit to

Masque Anonymous
Hands down yo tightest track was NightShifting. that shit is dope. Im really feelin the 2nd trak too. my only thing is the choice of sounds u used in the first 2 tracks. dont get me wrong, yo composition is tight , u most def know how to put a track together, but some of the sounds to me jus were'nt full enough. they sounded very factory.

J. Alexandre
That 300 and the Ojays tracks r sooo damn cold 4real. nuff said....

Damn this week is probably the best one to me. all the producers r on point and i give all ma nigga props. keep that shit bangin'. but if i gotta pick one imma roll wit

J. Alexandre

His last two tracks killed every other track up there to me, real spit....

I'mma have to give it Masque Anonymous hands down! All three of his joints have that radio feel joint to me.But No Face's The Beat joint sounds like a Chris Brown banger off top!You need to get with some songwriters and build this track piece by piece homie straight up!I believe that you can have a nice lil single on your hands if the production and vocal arrangements are executed in the right way!Peace!-Will

NoFace from Trackmates Production:

Castlevania- rider music right here. Not sure if you actually sampled castlevania or not...havent played that shit since the 90's...

The beat- "rock witcha'", nice flip....its gonna cost some BREAD to clear this one for sure...but excellent flip kid...someone said chris brown, my thoughts exactly....

The ultimate- iight Im waitin for that ENY stomp...kinda flat...I see niggas is mentioning factory sounding drums more and more...yes yes yes...nice rhythm though...not enough to be called the ultimate...

Masque Anonymous:

Mala vita- ...kinda sounds like some post wu forever wu-elements type production with them d drums and shit...kinda choppy...its iight...

found dead on the phone- ...this sounds like this would best represent your production style right here....kinda random...nice rhythm though...

nightshifting- owwww! this is DBlock all day right here...chorus is off tempo a taste but this is serious buisness. drums are sparse but solid...turn em up a little and fix that chorus and you got you a street banger, no question...

(J. Alexandre)
AEIOU- Not sure what to think of this. theres no connection to it at all.
you should start naming your tracks something, ANYTHING other than  AEIOU or 1234...I dont know what to think of this beat cause you didnt bother to "paint your own picture"...its iight but sounds random...and kinda boring....just keepin it 100...

300- Damn your like the 5th producer I ran into that had a beat named 300 and it sounded and feels JUST like the movie 300! I feel you and its hardbody, dont get me wrong..but those drums....yuck....I'd redo this if I was you, this is a streetbanger for sure, its just the drums have ZERO punch to it...and too much reverb...the smack of your snare should drive this beat...

Ojays- oh ok...backstabbers...I like how you freaked the bassline...again, your drums/timing need a little work...in my opinion that is...good flip but its missing something....more some mor highhats underneath or something...something to really drive it...its hot though...

Hmm....this is close...all the producers were on a similar level to me...all had some flaws but had that 1 banger in the stash...
Traxcrash- castlevania and that beat are STOOOPID!! The ultimate was anything but...it just didnt go anywhere...marching drums is cool but just lacked a bunch of elements. The MCs lyrics would have to be A+ for it not to matter...
Masque Anonymous- nightshifting was your best joint..I love that gritty shit, so it was cool for me...the drums need a touch up but that shit is crackhouse. (J. Alexandre) 300 and ojays was CRAZY but you lost me by not naming your tracks.  You gotta have some kinda name bro...when I click on AEIOU I have no clue what to expect then when the beat is just random sounding I really get lost. The ojays track was hot but I knew what sound I was gonna get when I saw the name...then its was just good not great...just like the 300 joint...your title was predictable and your drums sounded generic for the most part, other than that your ear for rhythms is ill and your chopping is on point too. I felt 300 and the ojays joints the most, Botah of those can take off once you clean em up.
good shit but "back to the lab"....thats the fun part about production, going back to the drawing board over & over to push the envelope further...

I gotta go with No face aka TRAXCRASH....
that beat and castlevania locked it down for me...

**Im gonna send something in next week for sure....I know I gotta mean critique game so Ima go in 1 more time for the niggas who might think whatever about IronHorse and his comments...is what it is....
