Banner is my dude and is quite intelligent. Crooked Letterz was a slept on album. Anyway, the youth of every generation have been scrutinized and pushed to the side, but we are the leaders of the tomorrow with little guidance. There comes a time when you can't lead someone who dosen't want to be lead and personal responsibilty has to take hold. These cats out here nowadays for the most part don't have a stable home with no real father figure and they look to hip hop for guidance. I see it everyday and I can't front like i don't look for hip hop when i really need it. Q-tip said it best when he said " Hip Hop.... A way of life but it dosen't tell you how to raise a child or treat a wife. " Rappers and these execs need to have their feet held to the fire just like these so-called leaders. But who's feet that really needs to be held down are the ones in the community responsible for tearin shit up and their parents. I appreciate the editorial Banner just broaden the attack next time and talk about these rappers that really aint doin shit for hip hop or the community. Talk about these ring tone money hungry execs who are tearing up the hip hop culture tryin to make a buck not caring about the content coming out of a rappers mouth and that like black kid in Greenville, SC. it effects. Hip Hop is under attack and sadly it is a war started by greed power and bullshit.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

AMEN BANNER!!! THIS GUY GETS IT. HIM, OPRAH, SHARPTON, AND JACKSON NEED TO HAVE A FACE TO FACE MEETING ON THIS SUBJECT. BUT THATS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW WHO DAVID BANNER IS. IT'S SAD THAT THE MAJORITY OF ARE BLACK LEADERS HAVE TURN THEIR BACKS ON HIP-HOP. I CAN REMEMBER OPRAH SAYING THAT SHE DOESN'T WANT TO HELP PEOPLE IN THE INNER-CITY BECAUSE ALL THE KIDS WANT IS MATERIAL THINGS, NOT AN EDUCATION. JUST A BUNCH OF BS FROM MS. It's sad to see racism among ur own kind, but in reality its really happening. I don't believe music has a big influence on the decisions people make. If they are able to understand the lyrics, then they are able to understand right from wrong. So don't put all the blame on music because if that were the case, tv, the media, and every other form of entertainment should be to blame as well!

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

DANGG i agree with this 200%...dang i think David Banner Should Be PRESIDENT!! lol

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

PREACH!!

http://www.myspace.com/dmdinc
http://www.myspace.com/dmdinc

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

IMO david banner is a smarter person than al sharpton but he should stop behaving like a kid, because there are some things i agree on with al sharpton and others mentioned. on the other hand, there are some things i agree on with david banner too, i just don't totally agree with everything they each say or represent and generally, just because anybody has a college degree don't mean he's a super smart guy and i'm gonna agree with everything he says, common bruh. david banner should have called up al sharpton or talk to him one on one privately about what he feels and smooth it out but i guess he's getting a lil emotional about the reply from al sharpton's people. al sharpton still wants to run for office so i can understand to a point what he's doing and has more powerful supporters than david banner. believe it or not this back and forth bickering is just bringing down them and us. people like bill oreilly and other are listening and this is not a good look. uheardme

Peace!

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Mr Banner;

I live in the hood, lets just get that out of the way.

When I see young girls out here imitating video hoes from the latest BET video, it bothers the shit out of me.

When I see young dudes mimicking holding a glock, standing on the corner blasting music that clearly talks reckless, it bothers the shit out of me.

When WHITE owned companies run a radio station, have the power to tell MY community what is "Hot", that bothers the shit out of me.

When I see videos of many of you cats who dont even live in the fuckin' "hood" anymore, rolling around giving this FALSE perception of what the hood is like - that bothers the shit out of me.

When young dudes can recite every lyric of Plies, UGK, or Jim Jones, but barely go to school..it bothers the shit out of me.

Music is POWERFUL. And our "leaders" take time out to coat-tail an issue they could have been speaking about instead of waiting on the man to make us open our eyes. Its funny how at the end of the day it will still go down in history as a White man caused a bigger stir in our community than we could do on our own.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Ok, here is is. As a person that has been around longer than a lot of you, I applaud David Banner. He is what is lacking in the African-American community. Y'all got to stop being scared, we have no leaders. Never give an individual that much power, it they can't control their lives how can they control yours. I have five children and they don't see heroes in so-called black leaders. They see people that helped feed, clothe, education and respect them. I am so tired of the focus on Al Sharpton and his rally against African-American youth. I hate that blacks got upset at Imus not for the word HO but for the word nappy-headed. That and other words are so damn offensive to blacks, yet it is okay for white schools to have the best books, computers and schools in general. But where are all the blacks complaining. We so concerned about Gangster Rap, damn did y'all forget about the gangs in early New York, circa 1860's. Or the Italian gangs. We can criticize our own because we are afraid to critcize the old white men with their foot on our throats. David Banner this mature, voting, active African-American woman agrees with you. Al Sharpton, take your behind to Jenna, LA and protest that shit or are you getting a payoff not to attack certain issues. Allhiphop.com feel free to give Al my email, I am not afraid.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

david banner is a fucking clown just like you dumb ass nigger's on here agreeing with him. you think this dumb ass nigger got the answer to black america problem. he kicking that same ole victim shit black people always kick. remember a victim is weak a victim is a person that lost. this nigger saying common ain't gangster what he pose to be gangster .i bet common would whip his ass on the 1 on 1. none of theses rapper's are gangster's you fucking dumb monkey's they are entertainer's you fucking jackasses. if america fall today theses dumb nigger's on here actin like they'll follow his stupid ass. you think he know how to run a nation. he talking a bunch of nonsense just like all these stupid ass rapper's talking that revolution bullshit. when he start a revolution what you think the white man gonna do sit there and watch. no he gonna but his foot up your dumb nigger asses while you trying to overthrow the goverment what you gonna do when he shut off the water and food supply you stupid ass monkey. keep following these fucking rapper's see where it leave's you. you big dummy

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

listen to these stupid ass nigger's on here. the reason black people fucked up is because they don't stick together.check out this story. my spanish man form jersey got lock up with a black guy.he said when he went through the system some spanish guy's gave him a pack of smoke's and told him to stick with them the black guy he was with got in a fight with other nigger's trying to take his sneaker's. he ask me why black people do shit like that to each other. i said cause they hate themself's black people ain't shit period point blank that's why tiger wood's won't admit his blackness thses nigger's is str8 animal's.this nigger david banner trying to justify str8 maddness poverty ain't what make black people act the way they act it's self hatred it's a ass of poor nationality's they ain't killing each other like these nigger's are. this nigger mentality is gonna send these nigger's str8 to a cell.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

here we go again....

@GhettoPrincess4eva

Al Sharpton on Jena 6
http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070806/NEWS01/708060309/1002/NEWS

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

fuk that bulls&**t. another uncle tom selling us out.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Real Talk David Banner is on point here. Like he said, these rappers are kids and young men trying to come into their own. They are not always right, but they are not always wrong, either. And if you "leaders" really gave a fuck about how rappers are influencing the kids, you would make an attempt to meet them where they are and show them some guidance, insteading of basically telling them to shut the fuck up!

Quote of the year
"you need to stop the crime before it happens so that there is no gangster song about a gangster situation."

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

1 - Ron Art. I just want to say it's all our fault. We all have strayed away from the one true way. We all have given instructions or peer pressured a weak link thinking let me put'em up on game or even try this or that. The truth is everybody wants to point a finger ie he/she wrong he/she right.

Everybody knows "Divide and Conquer" but who's teaching "Unite and Overcome"

(someone's going to hate me even more for this next word)

Love is the only way to save people! It's because I care about you that I'm willing to pick you up and teach you how to maintain so that you in return can help the next man or women. We got a president and he has the biggest gang on the map. He makes them rest, he makes them train hard, he pays them. So who really taught the streets. No branch of service speaks the same except the Navy and the Marines no gang on the steets speak the same.

I could go on but I don't even really know if you got time to hear me out. Once again Big Up for everything!

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

@IbeDamned:

It would be pretty stupid for anyone to comment on somthing they did not read.

For clartication, I read David Bannner's editorial.
Actually I read it a few times. The funny shit is, I never attacked him or anyone.

I simply addressed what I see and observe here in the hood.
I bought up relevent topics tha you, Mr Banner or younf dude that called me a "idiot" didnt even bother to touch.

Just because I dont agree with the editorial, dont make me a "hater" or even attacking.

Peep this...
If Al Sharpton said "Fuck You David Banner, suck my dick..."
that would have been kinda fucked up, right? Exactly.

David Banner - the entertainer - told AL Sharpton to suck his dick.

Lets repeat that:

David Banner - the entertainer - told AL Sharpton to suck his dick.

For a dude thats in his mid 30's, educated - thats kinda immature. Good way to start intelligent dialog, man to man.

David Banner - the entertainer - is calling out these so called "leaders" that he believes is attacking Hip Hop. See, thats when it all gets mad sticky.

AL never said ban Hip Hop.
AL never said ban Hip Hop.
AL never said ban Hip Hop.

I wont even get into the fact that if it wasnt for Russell Simmons, who David Banner - the entertainer - attacked in his song, paved the way for 80% of the Hip Hop industry to make money, eat, and get up out the hood.

THAT muthafucka founded Def Jam along with Rick Rubin, and laid a blueprint on how to make money in Hip Hop.

C. Delores Tucker wanted to ban Hip Hop, but Al does not.

Most of you never researched Al Sharpton.
For you to hate on him based on what you "seent on the news" or just because David Banner - the entertainer - said "Fuck Him" is some off the wall crazy shit. yall "nigas" need to think and read for yourself, instead of being influenced by any person or thing.

I live I the hood.
Im not muthafuckin rich with the pull to get major publicity on a website. I see what the fuck goes on here in Brooklyn, which is the same thing that goes on in every ghetto, every state.

I'm not blind dumb or deaf either.
Kids are imitating what they see on TV and hear in the music., cuz the average muthafuka here dont have shit. The average muthafucka here in the "hood" actually go to school and work to survive.

Many (not all) of todays rappers are close to 30 or over 30, no longer living in the hood - and still making music about the hood.

If you live in a damn near mansion - and you still talking about how shit goes down in the PJ's, you are fake. you dont live here anymore. You used to, but for you to regurgitate how we live- back to us - is pointless.

They speak about and portray a hood that they no longer live in - yet they seem to have a lot of influence.

When these major WHITE owned labels give house nigga rapper x y and z another deal to keep rhymin and rappin about the the hood, that shit bothers me.

Summa these cats got 5 hunnid thousand dollars of jewelry in they mouth. Mansions, 2 jets, 6 cars and shit. They set for life.

WHY ARE THEY STILL TALKING ABOUT THE HOOD?
HOW ARE THEY SHOWING THE YOUTH STILL IN THE HOOD, ON HOW TO GET OUT OF THE HOOD?

Because they arent.

You, me , WE buy their CD, and go back to the hood, listen to the CD on our CD Player or Ipod, and them "niggas" stay rich.

They give a few speeches, set up a charity, give away turkeys at christmas. Maybe donate some computers. Thats cool. I aint knockin that, because a lot of peple dont ever give back.

I know Levell Crump does.

Lets repeat that again for dumb niggas here who may want to take my words out of context:

I know Levell Crump does give back.

See.. most of the dealers around my way do that - give turkeys, basketball tournamants, ect...so while it's something, it still dont teach the youth how to get the fuck out of here - or at the very least - PROVIDE AN ALTERNATIVE.

Mr Crump and a lotta rappers can go home to a nice fancy ass gated community. I, and a whole lot of US here in the hood - go back to the hood and watch them on BET or MTV.

I didnt see any elevation, reaching out to the people he tols to "suck his dick" OR even teaching going on with David Banner - the entertainer.

Yall may not agree with me, but im cool with that.
Im not trynna be different or difficult..I just see things differently.

BTW...what the fuck is "too intellectual"?

Is it a crime in the hood to be "intellectual", or have common sense?
re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

most rappers are NOT kids. they are out of control ex-dope dealers or nut huggers that hung around dope dealers. nothing admirable about them. nothing worth respecting or saving. they f*kin up hip-hop plain and simple.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

The 3 students executed in New Jersey, and the jena 6 are the most things right now we as black people should be pushing for right now... Music doesn't help out much because everybody is rapping about holding their dicks and smokeing blunts and being big time drug kings. But once again we let this happen once again. Kids don't no anything about them school books but they know every rap song word for word.I think theres something really wrong with that one there, but once again don't blame Al because thats a home issue. It the same thing as 50 cent ramping about getting shot 9 times over and over again and walking around like we have to respect him for that. These kids look up to that type of person because to them he's real. the kids look at their mother and fathers as chumps because they get up everyday and go to a 9 to 5 job. But for these kids thats a lame. We need to change our shit before we can change other peoples shit.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Ron Art I respect and see where u are coming from. I respect David Banner and his honesty. I can't really talk bad upon Al Sharpton, David Banner, Oprah, or even Young Buck. Because I see those people doing something. That is more than what I am doing right now. David Banner dropped a lot of knowledge on the Crooked Lettaz album but no one bought it. I can't get mad at him for compromising his talent to get to the point where he can help out his people. There was footage of Al Sharpton trying to sell Cocaine to a undercover CIA agent but the FBI never carried out the investigation. But why not attack other stuff that promotes violence and drugs. White people make all these movies about killing and drugs. Why is that not the reason why stuff goes on in the hood we see these movies to. Arnold Schwarzenegger has way more bodies in movies than any rapper raps about on any song and he's the governor of Cali. White peolpe made the movie Scarface, The Sopranos, and other shows. I guess your saying all the movies and points I just made are just entertaintment so is rap music. I agree with David Banner 100 motherfucking %. A lot of young black youth don't drop out of school and sale drugs because they want to its because they have to. If you don't belive me watch season 4 of the wire and watch the character Michael Lee he is the perfect example. He wants to do right he wants to live the American dream but he can't. His mother is on drugs and doesn't care about him or his brother. He is to young to get a legal job and he doesn't want to go through the system because they are going to split him and his brother up. So who else is there to turn to. His big brother the street. Thats why I agree with my man Banner if you want to clean up rap music stop it where it starts.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

ron art. at some point and time as men have to stop looking 4 other men to come into our house and rasie our kids. we have to do it ourselves. if you have time to get blowed or drunk then you should have time to teach yo kids our kids right from wrong. we have to come together and become the next al, jesse an so on.cause they are gettin old, but it dont mean that the rule are. cause look what they became with the right teaching,to have parents active in a childs live is the answer to it all. we have to be there or we all r jus some bitchies and hoes, niggas and all that shit. this is nt a dis. im jus piggie backin what u said. that all

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

David Banner is wrong for disrespecting Al Sharptown like he did. (Decepts, etc.)

**Side Note: I’m not disagreeing with the statements that you’ve made, but simultaneously the relevance only goes so far.

Everyone can not move out of the hood. It’s not even or was it ever about the hood. It’s about the people in the hood. The “hoods” in most major cities have all been or will soon be gone. It’s happening all over the country; gentrification. Look at the changes in Bed-Stuy, Harlem, Newark, DC, Atlanta (SWATS, College Park, etc), and I’m sure many other places. And where will people move to? Where can people afford to live? These are questions that need to be answered or at least discussed for possible solutions.

Al Sharpton & David Banner both have valid points, but they are both guilty of division. “Divide & Conquer.” Instead of focusing on the differences, “we” should focus on “our” common ground; black empowerment. Events such as Jena 6 have gone on for years (Rodney King, Sean Bell, Emmett Till, Timothy Stansbury…and the list goes on). I applaud the people who took time to “think” and post their own thoughts. The next step is to become an active participant in “your” community and work together. Volunteer at your local community center, become a big brother/big sister. Changing one person’s life is a step to changing the entire village.

Knowledge Knowledge
Qayyim Allah Kabar
re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

There's one statement he made that pisses me off! The issue is not about creating rosy or better situtations to sing about - although that is ultimate goal actually - but rather, it's the way things are described!!

You can point out GROSS atrocities WITHOUT denigrating women with your choice of words!!! To me, inability to do so shows lack of true creative talent, intelligence AND self respect.

Look, Grandmaster Flash shared his views on life in the Bronx - which was no picnic by the way - and conveyed true angst by saying the following: "don't push me 'cause I'm close to the edge uh huh huh, I'm trying not to lose my head. It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under!!"

Before some numbskull brings up "times have" changed, here's my response: YOU'RE RIGHT!! There are more wealthy blacks, and more opportunities and avenues for us to succeed than there were in the late 70s early 80s, so don't go there!!!

Unfortunately, how do you think TODAY's average rapper, would re-write those lines?? Food for thought.

Me personally, I'd rather hear Common's take.

Otherwise, he made some salinet points regarding the "quality" and "efficacy" of our "leaders."

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

I FEEL YOU BANNER....SPEAK YA PEACE!!!!!

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

see how dumb these fuck's are they think i'am white i call you nigger cause you don't know what time it is.that is what racist white people call you cause you ain't thinking right you really think this jack ass david banner know what he talking about he a fucking idoit. i bet he still eating pork. you really think al sharpton your leader.where the fuck he leading you nowhere. bush is your leader you fucking dummies the white mainstream is your leader dick head. when you work who pay you.that money they give you what you do with it.you pay them rent, food, gas, electricity, clothing, music, movies, nothing is recycled back into your community you don't have your own self determination. all that shit david banner saying don't mean shit

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Wow..... And that's coming from a Haitian Man.

Slavery and oppression did a number on you people psychologically.

To get back on point, it's rather amazing how this is all about black concerned adults (or leaders if you want to call them that) telling you to clean up the language in YOUR music.

David Banner is an intelligent cat, but I'm sorry, this nigga is giving himself and his rap comrades a pass. When are rappers gonna take responsibility for their own actions? Just because you are devoid of moral standards doesn't mean we have to accept you, your ways or your language. Fuck out of here!

Majority rules, fools! And most of us say clean up your act! You guys are embarrassing to us black folks with an education, family value and moral standards.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

@Ron Art

I completely agree with your persepective. Both parties "Our leaders" and "artist" are responsible for bringing about social change. Some artist are just not at the point in understanding / maturity where they realize the power of the tongue. What ever you say has the power to manifest itself in reality and someone else. And if you keep talking about the hood, drugs, B*&^) etc.. you propogate the problem. You make the problem worst, you feed the negativity. You speak hopelessness for us stuck there. If you know the answer speak it. If you dont have the answer...seek wisdom and then speak it. We need solution music not music that is problematic. I like David Banner and his perspective and I agree that we need to have a behind dorr sit down and transfer the wisdom that comes with age and life experience to the "younger cats" who are on the come up. and need that guidance. When we do that we can build a bridge between the generations and really start building as a people.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

I wonder how many of you all commenting are registered to vote and are members of the NAACP.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

The leadership starts at home, why wait for somebody to come and save you. We are our own leaders, if I see something wrong I am going to address it. If I see something right I am going to applaud it. I see it with my own eyes, the way that we are trying to out do each other or partying every weekend. Most rappers are not role models or even close to being leaders, but the majority of black youth look up to them because that is all that they see. They see a dream or a fantasy that they long to live. Drug dealing and pimping is more accepted in our community than getting an education and I feel that is backwards. I was raised without a father, my mom was on crack, we lost our house and moved in a shelter. My family was split up, and I moved in with foster parents. All of the bad influences were around me, but I used all of those negative experiences as motivation to lead me where I am today. I could have been a statistic but I would not allow myself to be one, ultimately what I am trying to say is that it is all about personal choices.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

David was on point, however he has to address his peers in the game who dont care about the people. If you remember when Bush was running for the 2nd time alot of artist like Jada kiss and many others where pushing us to vote and when we did come out they was telling people that the couldn't vote here you have to go over there and the same thing was going on all around... We are voting but they find a way to block us out if to many of us show up so don't talk about the vote talk about shit we can do as far as numbers go...And talk about what we can do for our people without asking for help from others. That way if we fuck up we fuck up and can't blame some one else for our shit, because thats the reason why we are fucked up. We are always looking for that free hand out but not knowing that they will help up to a point and then they will cut us off. Why do you think welfare is there? its not to help us its to stop us from moving forward and passing them the white people. They already no how we are if you give us something free we will be happy with that an we will try to use it for years to come not knowing we have just fallin into the trap. That welfare shit is slavery and we are just watching it happen but then when we are fed up with how they are treating us then we want to find work but then the work that we find isn't worth shit so we end up on the street, and then we blame it on the white man as if he pushed us to the welfare line. Make sure your kids understand what is going on in school so that they don't have to keep running down this same path. And we need to have both mother and father living in the same home. You want to be called a man but we are the first ones to run off when our girls get knocked up,causing her to have to be the next runner up on that line. Black man stand up and hold tight to your family because without you being there in that home our kids will be in the same boat as we are now. And thats called the " PASS THE BLAME"...

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

This is why we can't get anything done, people on here are talking about the rappers giving back WOW.Thats what i'm talking about, you have to stand on your on 2 feet and make you move in order to get out the hood.If you want to stand on the corner with the boys then thats on you, don't wait to see if a brother that you no from way back who is now making music is going to come back to the hood to take you with him. The only people that man is looking out for is his self and his fam.You are a man just like he is. You have to find your on way out, Rappers give back to the hood shit maybe they will throw some b-ball games but thats it. I to have made it out the hood and i'm doing good for myself and my fam i'm about to go back to NY to start my company but i will not be going to pick up the boys from the hood because they have to want to help them selves the same way i did. I was locked up and i to sold drugs but i had to find something better in life to reach for other then seeing how many blunts i could smoke with the hood. Alot of my friends back home are still doing the same shit from when we was teens, not working smoking blunts just living the free no job no money life. I still smoke the bud,but i can do that because i put in those hours to make that good good pay. I didn't ask any one for help,i just got up off my ass and kept it moving while the rest just stayed stuck in time... Any one can do it so stop blaming shit on others because your holding your fucking self back.Be a man for once in your life and lead your self to better things without asking for help because at the end of the day when it is all done you will feel more better about it becasue "YOU DID IT WITHOUT THE HELP OF ANOTHER"

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

I'm not one to look to some leader, first where is this person leading me to.Al,Oprah, and any other leader. There not leading us to better jobs there only going to lead you to the next protest thats it. I don't need nobody to lead me to a protest because thats not going to put food on my table for me and my fam. Al isn't going to take you in his home if you get layed off from work because he was leading your ass to the protest on the white house door step. Stop looking to leaders they are just a voice that isn't getting heard. Al is almost everywhere but does it mean anything,When did Al ever get something done to help us never. But at the same time we do need these kinds of people because they can help out but i just haven't really seen it happen yet. Now Al is all over hip hop, along with Oprah but they don't live the life we live so they are out of touch with us,They have they head stuck up so high in the sky right now that you can't pull them out.Oprah is the same she is working for a white tv show where she is making Millions or billions do you think she is trying to lose that by going against her white reps hell no. I'm so sick of people blaming "old white America." They are not the entire problem. Yes, they make the road tougher for us, and very rarely do we get a fair shot at things such as education, jobs, and the law, but it is NOT impossible to overcome those things. And maybe, JUST MAYBE, if more black people overcame those obstacles instead of complaining that they are there, we'd actually get ourselves in a position to CHANGE THINGS. Is it fair? No. Do we have to work harder than white people? Yes. Is that okay? No. Is that reality? Yes. Although things are far from equal, they are better than they use to be. So tell me WHY our "situation" is getting worse? Whose fault is that? Al Sharpton, Oprah, and people like them are easy targets, but how about judging yourself as harshly. Pot calling the kettle black perhaps?

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

These are probably the best post I've ever seen on this subject. I'm happy to see all this dialouge it's a good thing. I think the problem is we can't get our hands around the fact you are all right actually no one is wrong. The issue of African Americans in this great country of ours is a layered one. The offense against us happened 100s of years ago and has been ignored, even by our own people.

If it's all about accountability and integrity, how can you blame the youth with out sharing in the blame, especially a genre of music. Are you kidding me?? I was a teen in the 80s, push'n them packs and the hottest album out was De La Soul's 3ft high and rising. How I see it, the street wanted the street music. Back at that time NWA was banging in every hood with no airplay or massive media exposure these artist get today yet they still sold a million copies which was a phenominal feat. They sold that many records because they capture the anger and fustration we face and white kids are fascinated how our music pisses off their parents..cause they hate their parents just like we hate their racist parents hate'n us, just as much as we hate ourselves.

What I'm sayin is the hood is gonna be fucked up wether there was rap music or not. To blame rap music you have to shut down every other form of entertainment as well. Right?? To change the condition of African Americans is an enormous task that can not be pulled off by Al and those old judgemental grannies nor can it be done by music. That is something which can only happen thru a revolution in our minds. I myself don't know how that would happen.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Thank you David Banner...

Thank you for speaking up for Hip Hop and doing in an intelligent manner...

This is exactly what we need...
re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Let me first say that I am a David Banner fan. I also agree with alot of stuff that he said. I realize that he has and continues to do much for our community. I realize that some of this music is do to people's surroundings and circumstances, but not all of what we here and see is do to that. Hip-Hop is the most influential music in the world, it influences over seas, the suburbs, even in the country towns of the US. We see little white kids dressing in baggy shorts, sagging their pants, trying to rap, joining gangs, talking about pimps and using language that we all know doesn't come from their household. If we have that much influence on kids that don't look like us, have both parents in the house and doesn't have the problems that we have in the black community then we must realize the influence that we have on the youth in our community. It is not hard to see the day to day influence. Remember that for kids in the hood supervision is sometimes if not most of the time minimal. So it is easy to say raise your own kids to the parent that is there, but what do you say to the mom that is working two to three jobs to make ends meet with no family help. Also to the kid that is raising his brothers or sisters that does not have it figured it out yet. I can't let my kids listen to the radio without explaining nine to ten different things that my kid shouldn't be worried about. I have to tell my kids you can sing that song but you can't say this word.
I agree that some of our leaders are not going about their goal the right way. You have to realize that Martin Luther King and Malcolm X were going through the struggles that they were fighting against. The leaders of today went through those struggles long ago. So don't get mad if they take the wrong path, you should join them in their mission and show them the way a person that deals with this stuff would do it.
In closing I would like to say that I am from the "hood" and I still struggle everyday outside of that hood. On a very personal note I find it to be a poor excuse to say that "I degrade women and my brother because of where I am from or that we do this because of the Ol' White society". When I hear a educated person say that, what I really hear is that I am to weak minded to break from the role that society has made for me. And for a person that is not educated, I feel it is our duty as the educated to let them know that it is not right. We have enough black men and women making money in this country to educate our own if we would do it. The definition of insanity is to "continue doing the same thing and expecting a different result". So I challenge the rappers businessmen and educators in our community to step up to the plate and start our own schools and create our own communities so that we can get all the benefits that we complain about not having.
Last thing is that I DID see Al Sharpton at a press conference when the kids in New Jersey got killed.

"LET'S STEP UP AND WHEN WE DO LET'S PUT OUR BEST FOOT FORWARD"

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

thanks d-banner for a wonderful well written state of address to high class blacks... i think more rappers should put them on blast, and at the end of the day their still rich and i'm not so what does it matter

out
YAK!~

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

*Reminisces about the days where "Like a Pimp" was played almost everyday and I didn't like it* Just a few days ago, I didn't even like this guy. For someone who's from one of the most racist, oppressed, poor states for black folks, he has a lot of nerve. For him to try and bad mouth a black leader who helps people who have real problems is disrespectful. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson? Did he know that Jesse Jackson was on the balcony when Martin Luther King was assassinated? And Al Sharpton started his work under Jesse Jackson? Just for Jesse Jackson to have been there with him should make him shut his mouth and listen. You see, some of these rappers get these deals and all of a sudden they think what they do is good for all black folks. It's not! Hip Hop is the most influential music ever! But look at what it does besides make people rich and let them know how you live and use to live. What does David Banner base his opinions on? It's surely not the Bible, even though he was baptized in dirty water.(Thats blasphemy) The only thing he has going is what being a rapper made him and he can talk down to our leaders. Who is his leader? The rappers he named at the end of his statement? Until the community figures out that we are the enemy rather we be rapper or civil rights activist were going nowhere. At least our leaders are fighting for us. Rappers are just trying to get paid thats all, you can't fool me. Your not being attacked from our leaders the system is. If you understood the industry then you would understand whats going on. The major labels and radio stations control this game not the rappers. If all the rappers in the game tried to change it instead of taking there check and being happy Al Sharpton wouldn't have to get involved. David Banner has to understand that the same people who Rev Al was fighting in the 70's are still in control of everything, media, entertainment, police, government, etc. You think you have stories about the hood by accident? They were fighting those same powers before we were born. And now all you can do is make money off of the fact that you were once poor? Why aren't you fighting the powers? Why is it so important to take the language of the street and teach it to our kids? When we were growing up we couldn't say those words around our parents. Cause they were bad words. Now that we're grown why not teach our kids the same thing? Because no one would buy your records? If all rappers didn't use those words they wouldn't have a choice of what records to buy. Or are they scared that record companies would replace them? People have to get pass all of these tools that are used to destroy us. There's a reason money is the root of all evil. Take money out of the picture and then things suddenly become not as important. But because, without lyrics with this language in it, money might not be made it's so important to these rappers. They must say it, it's a mirror, we were poor, blah blah blah! These rappers don't care about nothing but economics. But what they forget is, in economics if someone is giving you a check they're cut is bigger than yours. So who is really getting rich off of these words? He talks about Oprah when she had the town hall show did you hear how ignorant your corporate leaders sound? She picked these people because she's smart. Russell is the most influential man in hiphop. Everything someone does corporately in hip hop he did it first so you gotta start with him. Kevin Lyles is a president for a Major record label the only rapper to reach that level is Jay-z and he retired once. Common he's no gangster but he is someone she likes(it's her show) and he knows this music needs a change. I mean, the song that made him famous was I use to love her. It's telling you how hiphop got messed up and it came out in the early 90's. That was a good panel and still they couldn't tell us why it would be bad to stop using this language in the music. You want Al Sharpton to pull you to the side and tell you what you doing wrong? Naw you a grown man you don't get yelled at anymore. And these lyrics are very public so they should be addressed in public. I wanna know why you feel you being left out to dry. You have rights they didn't have coming up. You should thank them and ask them what can you do to help. They shouldn't have to come to you, they're the leaders you should be following them instead of that money train. Eventually the train is going to stop and it won't be in our hood. So you can either help us fix our problems, or keep it moving and just get your money. When you get into trouble and catch that case when your rights are being abused, just call our leaders cause they got teams around the country set up just for that reason. They aren't leaders of the Hip Hop Community homie - You are!! The kids will listen to you faster than they will ever listen to any of them. You have the voice of the kids. There shouldn't be a discussion on this subject when you already know whats up - Thats ridiculous !lol. Don't give your comrades a pass for the shit they do and say on records. Bashing the latter generation only proves their point and brings more fuel to the fire. Those degrogatory words you sprew sets a bad example to little kids listening to it because we all know, They will find a way to check for jeezy even if the parents don't want them to listen to him. Instead of stepping to Al, step to the rappers who aren't active in the community, who talks reckless about their trappin' schemes, who talk about shooting brothers who move on their streets, who call our women Bitches and hoes, Who want half -naked sisters in thier videos and who don't live in the Hood anymore but still act like it on cds because Al, Oprah, Jesse arent saying that to anyone.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Mannn. All effective change was taken by force. All my leaders stand up. I like David Banners thoughts, but he putting too much emphasis in a we'll wait until you help us mentality. Thats whats wrong with religion to day aka the gift and the curse to the black man. everybody is waiting for God or Jesus to come and save them. Your savior is the brain that God gave you, go read a book my! Stay in school, get out of school then dump all the ish you learned in there because it just taught you to pick up a trade and work until your 65 (hence the new found slave labor). But you still need that diploma and that degree for status purposes. You then have to shift to being a sheppard not a sheep. When you see everybody else falling off a cliff, hang on to the rope. Play chess not checkers, chess not checkers, chess not checkers. Play checkers to show them nigs you know how to play it, but live with the chess mentality. Imma stop at this because in a minute this is going to be a best selling book...(I said that on 8/19/2007 mark my words secret: law of attraction).

by the way article was nice, got a little off topic, go D. I too agree on how the older generation is, and from what I know, they do too much negative talking amongst themselves about the hip hop/urban/black community. Instead of talking about how bad it is maybe they should consider encouraging the younger generation to be a more positive group. Me personally, i used to have my 'rebel' days and sometimes i could over hear negative comments coming from my own fam, just like the so called leaders are talking about our youth and the hip hop community. It's something you dont want to hear because it sounds like a broken record. and the more you hear it, the more the community may not even want to change......unless we give the community constructive criticism, positive feedback and effective guidance. Don't get me wrong, It's STILL HIP HOP ALL DAY!!! Damn DAVID BANNER REALLY BROKE IT DOWN!!!

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Eventhough I agree with Banner 100%. but to Add on that, The youth of America haven't had a political leader since Martin Luther King died othe than, in the 70's it was the Black Panthers(Youth) and 80's and 90's (rapper's like PE) and Louis Farrakhan did touch some youth but I think his method couldn't reach alot of the young blacks youth (to keep it real, I, I think he got his own hidden agenda, sometimes) Now as in for Banner's Remarks, Yes I agree, But We as the people must also take some blames and responsibilities.

While, Al and Oprah is attacking the youth, and David Banner worrying about 3 College students who already died (no disrespect to the dead) WE HAVE a fight that is going on right now at <>JENA SIX<>, eventhough Al, is somewhat trying to support it, I think he wrote a few letters, made a few comments, but I have not seen him protesting at Jena. So, Al is fighting but he is fighting the wrong battle (Plus, there is no money for the Pimp at Jena). and Why don't Oprah dedicate 2 days show about Jena Six

I haven't see any rappers using the media to share any positive light on the Jena six subject either. I will only by bootleg CD/DVD.>>

Rappers will not comment because the White run record business(oh yeah, White) executive will not allows it. Their's no money in it for AL, Oprah will loose some audiences since majority of it is White.

Fuck all of them.

I will not purchased another album until I see the hip hop community start speaking out about JENA SIX. I Stop watching Oprah since the mid 90's. AL, was never my leader.

NIGGA,NIGGA,NIGGA,NIGGA,NIGGA,NIGGA

Remember, It is all about money, Stop spending money on all ot them, because, when WE need them, they will not be their for US.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Dear Oprah, Banner, Al, Jessie and others lost and confused
It brings me to write you on a matter that is getting way out of control and that is black unity. In 1712 Willie Lynch made a speech to a Virginia Colony on ways to put slaves (Black People) against one another and his method proves very effective till this day, being that Willie Lynch guaranteed everyone in the Colony, "that if his method of controlling slaves, (Black People) is installed correctly it will control the slaves for at least 300 years". Ask yourself this question, "Is that not whats going on right now"? Of course it is, you have the old black male against the young black male, the young black male versus the old black male, light skinned blacks versus dark skinned blacks and vice versa, the rich black male versus the poor black male, the light skinned female versus the dark skinned female and the list can go on and on. When will we as a people learn that what our ansectors died for we have put to shame. I mean I saw the show that you did that involved the comments that Don Imus made and it truly angered me to see how your panel, group of all blacks, blamed and went after each other faulting one another for a comment a white man done made. Comments like these were made way before my time and still are made to this very day. Being born in the early 70's I can say we never blamed artist like Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, James Brown etc etc.. for the lynchings, burnings, rapings and other horrific things that we as black people have gone through or still go through today. What i'm saying is, "Enough is enough", and we must understand that our complete existence will soon be just a memory if we do not react now.

Lets take a good look at our young. I'm 34 years old and I ask my 14 year old daughter about how she felt about slavery and she said, "If it was not for you and Mommy telling me about it I never would have none it even existed". Do we not see the concern in what my daughter stated? What child born in the late 80's, 90's, 2k and beyond is going to know about what struggles our people have went and gone through and will still go through if we do not educate them, for Black History is being elimenated throughout the school system and am I the only one that see this? In today's world have we as black people got to comfortable in life? Do our young know that the reason they are able to drink from the same water fountains as whites, able to go into restrauants with whites, being able to use the same bathrooms as whites, is that many of ansectors fought and died for us to have a better way of living? Kids now a days worship gangs, violence, material things instead of realizing the dream in what Martin Luther King spoke of. I mean was freedom at the cost of killing and degrading our own kind? If we continue to ignore the problem then expect things with our youth to spiral way out of control with no point of return.

What I am asking is for some type of documentory showing how things were back in the days of slavery and beyond and what currently has taken place and what lies ahead to eduacate our younger generation. One thing I do not want is for my children, my grandchildren, so on and so on, to have to relive what my parents and grandparents went through and how hard it was on them. Its time that we show our black youth who paved the way for them and what they had to go through in order for them to enjoy what life has to offer now, for it was not offered in the old days. Truly showing our youth that if you put a red, blue, black cloth over their head and are claiming a gang affiliation, is no different than a white person, who puts a white cloth over their head and call themselves a klansman, for the intent is to kill off the black race and our young and some old are to blind and uneduacted to see this. I pray that one day we all could live in harmony and live peacefully amongst one another, but will that ever happen? Rev. King and others who paved the way must be turning in their grave to see what the price of freedom has cost us. Lets take a stand, and instead of just talking about it be about it and learn that in order for us to rest in peace comfortably we can be assured that our young and old come together before all is lost.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Know to readers of this article, David Banner makes some good points and some bad points but what he needs to do is get off this gangsta shit. You see their are no real gangsta's in rap or any other form of music, just ignorant people who do ignorant things that lands them in prison or an early grave. David Banner, Al Sharpton, Opray, etc....we all need to fix what's going on with our community. Just to pinpoint hip-hop music and say this is what's wrong with us and it's needs to be cleaned up is pointless. Go back in hip-hop music and listen to "The Message". Listen to the conditions he's speaking on. How much of that has really changed??? Life dictates art. Without these ills of society do you think rappers would be talking about things such as this?? Probably not.

You can take hip-hop music away, ban it, clean it up, etc.....Do you really think the conditions of our communities will change?? There's still going to be drugs, violence, suffering, etc....

Even David Banner said it himself we're all making mistakes, put don't just criticize the person making the mistake if you claim to know a better way, just teach that person the better way. If a rapper is out here making the music he loves, feeding his family, and giving back to his community.....this an art form where he's pouring his heart out and speaking on his troubles. How do you think it makes that person feel when one says you shouldn't express yourself in this manner???

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

You can't hold the artist totally responsible...especially without placing a blame on the consumers. Rap is a supply and demand industry...The solution is almost simplistic....If you have such a problem with the content of the music, don't buy it, and don't listen to it. This was a very well written letter...DB articulated the thoughts of i'm sure millions of hip hop fans all over.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

You know what's funny about David Banner? You read his lyrics and he's talkin talkin all like a hard body Mississippi ghetto nigga- I pop a glock in a niggas mouth, bend over bitch lick my nuts. And he didn't say it in his backyard he put it on wax spread it all throughout the country, mixtapes ipods etc. Then when someone says hey, isn't that adding fuel to the problems in the community, degrading Black Women, making Black on Black violence seem cool then all the sudden he's a a motherfuckin Shakespere with the "articulate" essays, comes out all out like he's Talib Kweli or something. Damn the brothers is two faced these days, when they on wax feedin you that dumbed down shit, musical junk food -pork twinkies laced with crack then they turn around with a plume on their pen. Somebody hears your shit come and says that's ignorent, that's keepin us stuck in a mentality, all the sudden they all Martin Luther King with the speeches tryin to stop "the attack on the kids".
That's like those white politicians tyin to bullshit pullin the kids out "what about the children?"
Oh I'm sorry, David Banner, he's protecting the kids. What's this dude's real name again? Low Level Crump?
These dudes got a mafioso mentality, go and spread that dumbed down mental slavery, then do a few community service projects, hail mary's n'shit and think it's all good.
On Monday's you a piller of the community. On every other day you the propaganda mouthpiece for Crack dealers and Pimps who try to own women like slaves. Two faced motherfucker.
You know who's to blame? The artists, the fans, the industry, the parents, the conditions. That's all a factor.
But y'all all paranoid, want Hip Hop to be beyond criticism. Yeah you had that for the last 20 years. Now that Hip Hop's all dumbed down we haven't made any progress for the past 20 years and most of the intelligent or uplifting stuff been marginalized.
How come you didn't put all that articulate stuff in the album? Wouldn't sell?.............out? You wanna blame the government, society the industry. say we need jobs, political power, why don't you ryhme about that?
Now somebody's gonna go dig up a few rhyme he may have wrote like that.
But see. how's anybody gonna then take that serious, and symapathize with the struggle when the other half, excuse me, 90% of your album is about popping niggas and sticking your dick in a "bitch's" mouth.
And another thing stop calling women bitches and pressing it on CDs leave that shit in your back yard with the garbage.
And don't try to front like you are a reporter for the "Black CNN" Reporters report what they see they don't say I did this I did that.
I could go but getting fed up with this shit. You know the deal.
It's all about a few superstars trying to protect their personal bank accounts, Benz' etc. by any means necessary at the expense of the health and integrity of the Black community

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

DAVID BANNER IS ON POINT. I understand the stand point that David Banner is coming from in perspective. I am a little hurt that he used the same choice of words that they seem to be arguing about being said and still cannot seem to quite link the chain for society vs. statements made in the lyrics that are affecting the community which only leaves me to believe that they plain and simply don't want to and for me, being in the community that they don't seem to care about, say that they need to be dropped as advocates in the black community and should to the white community because my community doesn't need anyone who thinks that we are expendable and can be taken as test subjects and wait until we all die off and then allow them to live with there fantsey's of white familys with no black sounds and they live as slaves. No thank you, we can not do. I must say that that Oprah is letting me down, she has been around for a while and in her effort to help the community, she still has her little pitty party with her white community because they block her from hearing the truth. Understood that you need a support system but when you can't even look yourself in the face and neither can your audience, they are just paid, then you have to admitt that can cause hurt and pain and allow you to let that affect the community in ways that you could never imagine such as now. Working with the Naacp and not doing anything and still living a fantsey over in Africa as if to say that one school is really going to change the bigger controversy, saying that you would rather support someone who goes to Africa and kills the people by putting Aids in their blood stream to exterminate and then to say, these are the same people that I will allow to support me and as long as I can safe a portion of the African's then I am subtle, that is deep and not acceptable. I didn't get a chance to view any panel discussions but to have Common on the panel, that is like having cake at a cookie party, just doesn't add up, both sweet, not the same category. I agree 100% and say that if we can clear them out of their positions, then I believe that derogatory language can be eliminated from being filtered in the minds of children and adults against their will without warning and can contain a lot of the music that is put out which releases the wrong message and pisses people like David Banner off who don't want to entertain the animal that want's him to let off all the fowl language that he just did and lay that beast down to rest and continue with life!

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Bill O'reily is the enemy. wake the fuck up people.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

For ron art:

Thanks for sharing. I am a person that can admit a mistake. I am glad Al showed up at that church and did what he did. I still think we, I say we can and should do more. But thank you for that article.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Read some David Banner lyrics, don't be afraid too.
Then tell me that's a good look for Black people.

These dudes talk a lot of gutter shit that degrades the community and makes Black people look like savages.

Then they write one little article and all of sudden they're Jesus Christ.

After that it's back to the studio for more crunk ignorence.

Look, if you want to face up too a song like "Like a Pimp" where David Banner says

"Girls licking my nuts
We some south side pimps
And we aint giving a fuck
Poke yo gul up in the throat
And make her swallow the nut"

and think that garbage represents Black people then I can't help you you are beyond lost.
Everybody just loves that article. We can all talk about it till death but it does not change the world we live in. Ron, I agree with you 100% it bothers me too, what bothers you bothers me but at the same time we all need to get involved. Why are we waiting for people to lead us? We are not ones to be led we can lead ourselves. It starts with the individual then the family then the community. Lets start with ourselves. There are so many ways to get involved so instead of talking about it do it! Join the Boys and Girls Club join anything that makes a difference but make a difference. Its easy to talk about it but to give up our free time to make someone's life easier is hard. SO DO IT! Get up and offer a hand to someone in need, it does not always have to be money. Advice youth to go to school show them life other than the one they see and are used to.

re: David Banner: Stop Attacking The Kids

Again I say D. banner for president... of the hood that is...
