wow, nobody responded. i think this mess with "jena 6" is extremely awful. i don't know if america will ever change. in a just world, the white kids who put ropes on the tree would've been arrested for racial insensitvity or attempted emotional injury. its shitty how the law will put people in jail for beatin someone up, but won't put someone who does a cruel "joke" in some kind of juvenile detention or somethin. i've also heard the white kid had a weapon but no charges were held against the student. but yet the black kids who took the gun away got arrested not only for attempted assault but also theft of firearm. now, this white kid could've shot the black kids if they didn't take it away and not give it back. i hope the white kid is sentenced to eternal hell fire.

Unfortunately the Jena 6 situation is a continuation of the ongoing problems that Black people have faced at the hands of the dominant white culture in America. Black men are definitely targets, and we continue to perpetuate the introjected hatred we learn against each other. Rap music in the mainstream is nothing more than a imitation of the oppressive society that is bearing down on its very existence.

Most of these cats are merely interested in extorting the culture and then they don't care about it anymore. I write my rhymes to reflect the streets, but for me the streets are a reflection of the struggles that ordinary people go through. It is not a "symbolic" stage for egocentric rappers that really do everything in their power to separate themselves from the people.

These niggaz are chump change. Even with all the millions they are making, they are not really powerful and that is a shame, power cannot come from money alone. You have to have some type of conscious intellectual balance and purpose to your life to direct your wealth into something more than just the material aspects of business. The quality of life in American society is being destroyed by the mindless adherence to the belief that the market economy is an amoral machine that does not have any bearing on the lives of people living within it. At least that is my opinion on this topic. I will probably go into more depth about Jena 6 on my blog. These issues are always recurring because we are not learning from our history at all.

This was a very good article Carla...I've been supporting JENA 6 every since I first heard about it because the whole thing just pisses me the fuck off...the bad part is that not enough people know about JENA 6 and not enough is being done. I've never heard it on the news, except for the time they had a "little" segment on CNN and Michael Basdian(sp?) talks about it ALOT on the radio.

Yeah, they reduced the charges and is going to try Mycahl Bell as a juvenile, but they owe him some compensation for sitting in jail that long. Homeboy had a scholarship for football, and you know that it is gone.

For the past few weeks, all we heard about is Mike Vick, Paris Hilton, and Britany Spears...who the fuck cares. The boys from Duke stayed on the news for over a year and JENA 6 just now getting press time and that shit started last September...I didn't hear about it until mid July.

Remy Ma has a court date on the same day as Mycahl Bell's court date (Sept. 20)...we already know which one is getting more press time...

I have been blogging about this situation since June, and I have to agree with you. Hell, our artists even came out and supported the Columbine and Virginia Tech situations. They should not sit silently by and allow the IN-justice system to railroad these boys into spending half of their lives in prison. For a FIGHT? I am an average chick, making forty grand a year...yeah I have influence over the people in my circle, but where are the people whose voices are respected by the masses? And I mean Russell Simmons, Jay-Z, Nas, Fifty, Kanye. I love Jay-Z, but I can't remember hearing about him making a statement. Plus 90 grand is but a drop in the bucket to these cats...why do our young brothers have to sit in jail for bull shit while we argue about which artist is going to have a bigger first week? So, yeah, I'll do what I can, but we definitely need some heavy hitters.

In my belief, hanging the noose on the tree was offensive but let's face it there's freedom of speech in America. Maybe you could get the original purportrators on a hate crime charge. Don't forget that other students peacefully protested under the tree.....I can't condone what any side did in this case did and I definitely can't defend what the Jena 6 did. Maybe if it woulda been one on one you guys might seem a little more righteous in your cause.

The legal system in this country is very uneven. You might get stopped by a cop with some weed in your pocket and the cop might let you go or take you to jail, it's all just the luck(or lack thereof) of the draw. That's no secret. Mad people right now are sitting in jail for a lot less. And a gang that brutally attacks one person is not a small matter. Which brings me back to my point as to why no celebrity, black or otherwise is stepping up. Cuz the Jena 6 don't really deserve any pity straight up.

Oh and I seriously doubt they're going to end up spending a lifetime in jail, but they will be getting some jail time in addition to what they've gotten now.

I'm not lost no way no how. i'm the voice of reason in this ridiculous fiasco. I'm not the one sitting here calling for random acts of violence against people of a certain race.

The one thing people and the media are neglecting to state is that after the 3 nooses were hung and before the white kid was jumped, one of those black kids was jumped by a group of white kids (one of which was the white kid who got jumped) and were only suspended for a few days and given a misdemeanor.

Now I am not saying that either side is right for what thye did but putting someone in jail for this is far beyond people's understanding as to why the black kids got treated differently and sent to jail as if this situation was a re-occuring problem.

This Jena 6 shit piss me the fuck off, and what else is bad is how few people know bout it. They took long enough getting it on the mainstream news, and once they did it wasn't in a really big way. Ain't nobody heard of this shit. I been hustling around the college campus where I study spreading word and NOBODY's heard bout that shit. But if I've known bout this for weeks now, and I'm just a kid in college, seems like more rappers should know bout it by now. Shit's fucked up. Oh, and PsyenceNonfixion, if you think its fair to throw some kids in prison after they fight back against the people who threatened them with nooses and a shotgun, beat one of em up, and then threw racial slurs at them, I don't know what kinda shit you on. Given all the facts here, this shit is practically self defense, and if it ain't and Mychal Bell gets 22 years, then those whiteboys deserve 50 at least.
On a side note, it'll be interesting (but probably piss me off) to see how this case unravels compared to the Megan Williams one, where six white people held a young black woman in a trailer for a week torturing and raping her. Hmm, wonder how much time they deserve...

Come on PsyenceNonfixion are you even paying attention to your own words? The placing of a noose on a tree in Louisiana, the state with the most recorded lynchings of black people than any other, is a hate crime, it is not protected under freedom of speech.

Just like A.Sea said this is about fairness and the punishment nor the charges fit the crime. Was the fight fair? No but dude wasn’t seriously injured at all, he walked out of the hospital on his own strength so aggravated assault charges downgraded from attempted murder charges is just wrong. The charges should be exactly the same as the white boys and that’s what this is about. I can’t speak for anyone else but I don’t condone their actions but they should not have their lives ruined because of a fight.

No, I think that post 9/11 they started calling shit like that a 'hate crime'. That's kinda like burning crosses and painting racial slurs, and all that other HATEFUL , cowardly shit. Hate crimes have some harsh penalties attached to them. Ask anyone who was convicted of one because they practiced their "freedom of expression' against some Arab Americans. I only ask that the punishments fit the crimes. All the crimes- not just the one that ended with a white kid getting his ass kicked. By the way, said white kid was reportedly at a football game later the same evening as this "savage beating" that he took. I feel the kids are being railroaded, that they should be punished, but isn't 10 months in an adult prison punishment enough? C'mon. Stand for somethig, or you'll fall for anything!!!

The legal system in this country is very uneven. You might get stopped by a cop with some weed in your pocket and the cop might let you go or take you to jail, it's all just the luck(or lack thereof) of the draw. That's no secret. Mad people right now are sitting in jail for a lot less. And a gang that brutally attacks one person is not a small matter. Which brings me back to my point as to why no celebrity, black or otherwise is stepping up. Cuz the Jena 6 don't really deserve any pity straight up.

Oh and I seriously doubt they're going to end up spending a lifetime in jail, but they will be getting some jail time in addition to what they've gotten now.

I'm not lost no way no how. i'm the voice of reason in this ridiculous fiasco. I'm not the one sitting here calling for random acts of violence against people of a certain race.

you just don't get it. The jena 6 didn't randomly beat up the white kid. It was caused as a result of a build up of events. Nobody is saying they should be let of without a punisment. All people are asking for is fair justice. Look at the Kid rock and Tommy lee fight at the VMA. Why isn't he being locked up for 20 years for assulting Tommy lee. Or even in the NBA when they had that fight a few years ago. Those famous BALL PLAYERS ARE NOT LOCKED UP. This isn't just about race, it is about fair justice. That fighting event should have never happened. The schools should have taken action before it led up to this. What if someone put up Nazi signs, I bet different actions would have been taken then. All people want out of this is fair justice. If jena 6 where given fair punisment this would never have been in the news. This kind of stuff happens all the time. Its the fact that they weren't and thats the issue.
