It's a trade that has happened in the music. For the artists to make that big money, they had to provide a product that was marketable to the society as a whole. We created this but remember that we are only a percentage of the population in this country. The real money was in getting to those who wanted pop rap. Single driven albums that can get play on MTV and sell ringtones. The people who provide the money for these labels see what sells and directly sign and promote acts that they think will give them a return on their money. It has nothing to do with artistry, creativity or realness. It's about the bottom line to the labels and distributors. Buy low and sell high. People always talking about those people that sell not having talent or being real rap, but realness doesn't sell.

On another note, those so called fake rappers have opened up doors to do other things besides rap. They have opened up avenues to do other things like acting, starting fashion lines, alcholic bevs and etc. Other companies see how feasible it is to incorperate hip hop into marketing their products and brings a new cash flow into hiphop. There's a bigger pie out there for people to get a piece of. Geniune hiphop music has been sold out for financial gain. We just gotta accept that.

re: The New WWF: Hip-Hop

i was just about to do this topic in the IC dammit lol but yeah i believe hiph op has turned into the WWE and shit, cuz these niggas beef on wax and shit but when they in person nobody got shit to say and its all gravy, and the ppl who listen believe these beefs be legit, now some may be like real but most of em aint

re: The New WWF: Hip-Hop

Hip Hop died with Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. What we have today is rap. Before then, it was all about the music. After those two died everyone was scared to make art. They had to be soo hard you wouldn't mess with them. What happened was that Hip-Hop expanded outside of it's core fanbase, much like wrestling did. And like wrestling, they saw the amount of money out there to be had and it got real gimmicky. (I know that's not a word) Now to a certain extent, it's the fans who blew some of these so called wack rappers up. If we didn't buy their albums or buy the products they endorsed rappers wouldn't be getting these large advances from these record labels. Thus rappers would be still rapping to show the masses that they're nice on the Mic instead of trying to sell. There's nothing wrong with them making money, the problem is that too many of these rappers are becoming the record labels puppets. And of course the latest trend, ringtone rappers. Once Hip-Hop became corporate we saw a big change in the music. The majority of rappers use to go into the studio to release some stress and to talk to their communities. Now I believe too many create music that will be remembered as jingles.

re: The New WWF: Hip-Hop

@ Odeisel

How is Rappn for a sprite commercial a Gimmick? I agree with you to the fullest on Bushwick Bill..That nigga lost his damn mind with that wack ass shit he said..But as for the endorsement part of the game..I look at it like this..They are using a device, which are rappers to deceive us into buying shit that ain't no good for us..Have you seen what Sprite or Coca-Cola will do to a rusted screw or nail if you leave it sitting in there for a day or two? It'll clean that rust completely off so think about what it's doing to our insides..We as blacks don't drink enough water or juices..The only nigga I've seen on that tip was 50 and he didn't do it to help us..He did it to help his pockets..As for Nike they been pimpin us since the 80's..They used poor ass niggaz like us that came straight out the hood and made it to sell their $100 to $200 shoes to poor black kids..It's a difference in endorsing a product for the right reasons and selling out your people just to get a few bucks..Jordan made Nike all that damn money and still was only worth $300 million total at the time of the divorce..Nike probably has made that or more off his brand every year since the late 80's..Why aren't any of the investment companies using our athletes to advertise? Because they don't want us to save or invest shit but I bet they are blowing up those athletes to try and get them to invest some of their money with them..They know who the #1 consumers are so who better to endorse their overpriced and unhealthy products...They've been charging us more and feeding us unhealthy shit every since we got here..

@ Oye Bang!

I peeped the comment about the H-Town remix..Bushwick is not from Houston..He's from Brooklyn if i'm not mistaken..

re: The New WWF: Hip-Hop

@JxXxR:

2nd paragraph, 1st sentence... Corporate America Got every Nigga selln they ass for a dolla, Thats just the beast in general though.
If not Nike it would be somebody else, If not Jordan it would've been anotha player.
Like I be sayn about Jay and his girl B, these two are the biggest hoes in show bidness right now, and as long as we keep sayn that they are the best the game got, big bank is gone keep usin them to get to us. Fucks!
Remember Corporate America follows the trends that we set.
So yea they killn us cause of our uncle Toms and the lack of true leadership.
I was lookn at dudes like Krs, Talib Kweli so on an so forth, but Jayz mention these niggas in a song or two and they just so flattered an shit that they start changn up the whole movement an givin a mufucka a pass to fuck up the game.

But yea these clown on hear be twistn up our history, and thats why I made that distinction re: Endorsements.
an gimmicks
re: The New WWF: Hip-Hop

@ Katalyst

100 % cosign...I definitely agree with you on Bey and Jay..I ain't saying I'm a big ass Dame fan but I respected that nigga because his way of dealing with them mufuckas..We keep trying to worry about being like the white man instead of doing us..Don't no other race put so much into being like that and that's why all of them are prospering on a bigger scale..

re: The New WWF: Hip-Hop

hip hop did not die with big and pac...that ws over 10 years ago...lets move on

re: The New WWF: Hip-Hop

are we not entertained huh?
