I was telling a friend not too long after Obama anounced his candidacy that racial prejudices were going to be exposed on a whole new level. We all know how the bigots in america feel about us. Yo illseed.. nice article.. but i have to say (being one that has been around the world) that all people are racist.. Black people are racist to people just the same as whites and other races (i'll give you examples if you need em'). I have to say America is the only country that is so mixed, and from my studies there is never a problem with different races living amoungs one another until one race gains control of the resources or power. That being said. Most people are racist or only associate with those in which they can relate too, they don't understand or care to understand others. Unfortunately in many countries (since they don't live around other races) they go by stero types to judge people. - thats a whole other subject, i could go on for days about that.. but i will say this, most foreign countries that aren't mixed go by stero types.. even africans.. do you know how many africans ask me to rap for them... haha lucky for me i memorized a many of verses so i never disappoint them.. but what i saying is america still has a long way to go.. it will take about a good 5 more generations to get that racist shit out of people's minds..

They asked her if not been able to see from being blind was the worse thing she known and she responded saying something to the effect that the worse thing she's known is people that have the ablilty of seeing that dont see clear or lack vision... When they were discussing the mortage meltdown there was large disproportations in the amount of whites and African Americans that were given sub-prime mortages, which really could have qualified for conventional mortages. They use many different ways to try to hold us back and down as well as discredit us. Obama examplifies the struggle that we blacks have in all fields of life from entertainment to business. He is going through what we all feel on a daily basis. He is lucky enough to have his put out to the media so that the world can jude the unfairness of it. I thought the article was very unique in it's approach to racism and racial bias, and I want to say thanks to illseed for trying to shed some light on a very real, and overlooked facit of American life. People should know too that it's not just about the black and white anymore, it's a state of mind that needs to be carefully observed, because nowadays there are blacks who are racist against other blacks and so on and so forth. Benefits? What benefits do the Native Americans get from the American government? Talk to a few Native Americans and I'm sure they'll tell you different my friend. Also, you talk about slavery as if it were a thing of the past. No matter what 'they' try to make you believe, delve deeper into the ways of the world and you'll see that slavery still exists today. Modern slavery is real, although, in America, it doesn't exist in the volumes it once did, in many other countries slavery is alive and well.

Good editorial Illseed, you could actually right a book on the topic considering there is so much material of these blatant racists comments people are able to broadcast without much scrutiny. Hell watch Lou Dobbs 5 days a week he goes on about two things 1) War on the middle class 2) Threat of illegal immigrants, which in most times he links together as to say one is cause by the other smh.

But overall I think the nail you hit in the head is the fact that a lot of these people you mentioned wouldn't consider themselves racists since they have "black" friends or whatever (Lou Dobbs wife is latina) but the problem is as a collective whole they DO NOT like any race different then their own. So they might not a have a problem with a well known black individual but I bet you they don't like the race as a collective whole (or the stereotype of it they have ingrained in their brain).

This is hilarious because if you flip this whole article around and if it was wrote by a white person and about black people it would be another example of the white persons racism. I could see the Jesse Jacksons and the Rev. WRongs and there pit bulls attacking from all angles. The funny thing about the situation was Bill was actually defending Michelle Obama which needed no defending. This woman went to the most privledged schools in America is in the top 1% of weathly americans. Has had every opportunity in the world not because of her race and not because she is a woman but because she busted her ass, she worked hard, she studied hard, and she got what anyone deserves who works hard in this country. THAT'S WHAT AMERICA IS ALL ABOUT!!! She doesn't see it that way though it took her husband to be the front runner for President of the United States to "be proud of my Country for the first time in my adult life" Do we not live in the greatest country on the planet? Does our country not identfy the problems we have and have had and do the best that we can to correct them? Have we not been the shining city on the Hill which every modernized country trirs to emulate? Some of this I believe maybe counterattacks to keep power and influence where its mostly been. Also to keep certain people divided. I look at Hip Hop and think how once upon a time it was this great thing all of us could talk to each other through, rally for causes, address political and community issues, etc. I think that shit terrified "the aliens", so they decide to kill that hopeful dignified voice and replace it with an ignorant destructive one. As a result, the younger generation want to party, live it up, and be proud to be as ignorant and materialistic as they can be. In short easy to manipulate.

The "aliens" seized control of the vehicles that catered to us non-aliens, so that they may secretly bombard the non-aliens with their own propaganda. Aww, man I could talk this shit for days....its a mess. This is why I bitch often about responsibility. Those of us that have tools at our disposal really need to use them to combat this shit. We have to stop fucking around and express this shit to our kids responsibly so that they have their "alien glasses" ready. Things on one hand appear to be better than they've ever been[positions of power, buisness, etc.] but on the other hand, there are "aliens" hard at work behind the scenes destroying are unity, respect, love for each other, etc. Some even employ are own people so that the destruction comes from a familiar face....on some trojan horse shit.

This is my first time posting but I always like to read the comments just to see where our thought process is as a people. Racism in America is, in particular, one of my favorite topics of discussion because of the the overall view that white American has of it, "not existing". I am so happy that Obama is in this position because it is smoking all of the undercover racists out of their holes. The fact is that racism is alive and well in 2008. We as blacks see it every day. Admittedly, some of us are hypersensitive to it and pull the race card whenever possible (ie. Vogue cover with Lebron). If it weren't for the almighty dollar, I think racist attitudes would be more prevalent in the mainstream. A lot of business savvy people don't openly profess their racist idealism because it would hurt their bottom line. Essentially, they care more for the green than to let the potential backlash from the black uproar, fuck up they paper. I also understand that we have to shoulder the blame for some of the stereotypes, that we perpetuate, that continue to be fuel for the finger pointing racists who can't wait to say "See I told you they were criminals and animals" (ie. all the high profile rappers getting busted for stupid shit, Hell Rell on the dvd talking all that "he a street nigga bullshit"). Even if you are a "street nigga", it don't doesn't mean that you have to be a stupid muthafuka on top of it [but that's another thread]. Anyway, if the comments made by these people in the media, especially Bill O' Racist, are not evidence that racism if flourishing in 2008, play XBox live for a while and you'll hear what some of America really thinks of us. Yes I said it XBox live. I can't count the number of times I've heard some teenager refer to us as Niggers, jungle bunnies, coons, you name it. Online and the internet have become the new white hoods of the day where racists can say what they feel while concealing their identities like a bunch of cowards. The same teenagers spitting that hate online are the same ones smiling in your face in public like everything is all good.

i would say the plight of native americans is far worse in the US than that of black people. after europeans invaded north america, natives had no place to go, most of them died from diseases brought over from europe, eventually they were given little parcels of land as a consolation. and obviously slavery was horrible but at least black people still had a homeland back in africa.

This was a good editorial Illseed! In reality, everyday working in corporate America you will see these "so called" slip ups or ignorant acts that it'll make you sick. They'll apologize or ask condescending questions about your race relating to stereotypes. The word "black" is feared and misunderstood. If you notice every term that has black in either the prefix or suffix the explanation is usually negative. Black is unconsciously taught/learned as a negative occurrence. We are just getting a taste of their frustration that a black man is actually in the race for president. I just wish we could all hear what they're actually thinking about us as a race...

IllSeed great editorial. This is something thats talked about in my inner circle a lot. Im glad you are making an effort to bring to so many who may not have been paying attention to whats really going on. Racism is here and will be here long after many of us are dead. Whats happening is for everyone paying attention. The closer we get the crunch time the more people start to show what they are about. I just feel that if you are a person of color in the country the USA is showing you right now what Politics in the country is all about.

You made a lot of very good points and I agree with some to a certain extent. When you say that black people hold a grudge for what our grandparents witnessed is actually false. My parents witnessed racism first hand! I'm pretty sure my white brothers and sisters can track their heritage all the way back to the early 1700's. We are the race that has NO identity. Our families was stripped its culture/beliefs/names/respect/happiness etc. and yes it does trickle down on todays black individuals. We still suffer to this day because families were broken up and sold individually. You had kids not knowing their parents and in a sense this can explain how some some men and women abandon their children now. We were stripped of a family structure and all the blessings that a family offers a child. We now live in a society where we have to work two even three times as hard as a white person to make it in this world. This is why you see many black people being more selfish because we have to step on our own brothers and sisters to make it. Our HBCU's aren't recognized as formidable colleges opposed to the traditional predominantly white schools. You see how they take our best athletes and tell them that they can't have a professional career by attending an HBCU which is false. Working in corporate America your always the butt of black jokes or stereotypes. Its like we have a foot on our backs trying to keep us from getting up. You may see things in a well trained white eye but you will never see the big picture in our perspective. I can go on for days...but I won't I have to get back to the corporate world and be good black boy...LOL

That being said: You did an outstanding job linking the comments of these so called leaders and how they continue to be “Wolves in sheep’s clothing.” I have been waiting for someone to present this content to the masses. It is an article that shouldn’t be JUST for the AHH family, this needs to be sent to the masses.
When something so powerful like this comes to light, it is automatically suppressed by the minority but power conservatives (politicians, media, etc.) and countered as the minorities (race) just looking for any excuse to bring race into everything.
How is it at this day and age when a minority of great importance still has to live and defend themselves from these types of comments? I don’t hear Obama, Tiger, (using names in your article) using DAMING statements towards any culture.
I believe the fear they have towards Obama is: the fact that he is multi-cultural and very intelligent. He understands how both sides operate and is will to bridge the gap for ALL and make us( as a people and a nation) become what this country is supposed to be.

You know what is so funny, i was watching the men's basketball national championship the other night with my grandparents. My grandfather was talking on the phone with an old relative about the game. My grandfather and the relative was going back and forth about who is doing what right and who is doing what wrong. As we were watching the game, we see that Memphis plays all black players and Kansas plays two white guys.

All of a sudden, my grandfather saids to the relative, "you know what man, i have watch and played basketball all my life and nothing has change. These officials and the majority of the country always pull for the team that plays or has the most white people and root against the team that has the most blacks." I didn't say anything, but i kind of laugh under my breath. If you followed college basketball this year, Memphis was least like team in the country becuase the way they play and how they act?

This was good reading and YES we all know that it does exist...@ the same time WE BLACK people have fallen back so hard, think about how many black millionaires there are now and what is the 1st thing we do when we get money?? buy stupid shit and dog each other out when someone does make it in the world. we stay in that "hood" mentality and call our women anything we want...while the black women dance to it....

Rule and Conquer.. it's how it is. as for the benefits, it's better than nothing. cause actually no one is OWED nothing.. thats a harsh fact of life. you have to rule or be ruled. you work for yourself or you work for someone else or you don't work at all and hope someone gives you something. the comparison i made wasn't to make less of what either group of people went through, that was not my intention at all. i was simply trying to point out that the "benifits" that native americans get are really not all that. and i understand that slaves were in absolutley no position to pack up their things and say "i'm outta here", but that being said, i think there is a certain amount of hope provided by the knowledge that you still have a homeland. whether or not you can ever go back, just knowing its there i think is like a beacon of light during a horrible time. but maybe i'm wrong, i don't know.

on one hand, african americans were taken from their homeland, on the other, native americans had their homeland taken from them.

I think we need to come to the conclusion that all white people are not racist and stop being racist towards each other. There are always going to be bigots making their snotty nose comments about someones race. We just need to ignore them and move on with are lives. Even if every black person on the face of this planet reach "The Mountain Top" like Martin Luther King did and wants us to do, their will be idiots of other races trying to sabotage it.

Yeah, when i was a freshman in college, i told students in my african american studies class that the KKK all started in Pulaski, TN. I also told them that the recruits people at certain places downtown. One time, the police saw the KKK recruiting across from the Hard Rock Cafe downtown and they ended it.

Illinois Senator Barack Obama has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the early presidential polls. The black Senator’s popularity will help Democrats cling to their most loyal voting bloc, and postpone the realization by black Americans that they’ve been voting for the wrong party since 1960.

Black voters have been overwhelmingly Democrats since civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., encouraged them to vote in the 1960 election, and privately backed John F. Kennedy. JFK received over 70% of the black vote. More recently, in 2000, 90% of black voters chose Al Gore, 9% George Bush. In 2004, John Kerry captured 88% of the black vote, George Bush 11%. Year after year, election after election, black voters overwhelmingly favor the Democrat ticket.

Yet history shows that black Americans have more to thank Republicans for than Democrats. The Republican party began in the 1850s, conceived by opponents to the extension of slavery into the new territories of the United States.

On 6 March 1857, the United States Supreme Court, consisting of seven Democrats and two Republicans, handed down the Dred Scott decision. During his first year in office, President Nixon, on 8 August 1969, issued executive order 11478--the Equal Employment Opportunity Act, ensuring that all federal positions would be open to all applicants, regardless of race, color, religion, etc.

In July 1991, Republican President George H. W. Bush nominated Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. Despite a massive campaign of defamation orchestrated by Democrat Senators against the black jurist, Thomas was narrowly confirmed, and has become a leading originalist on the Court.

The last Democrat in the White House, Bill Clinton, appointed blacks to several cabinet posts, including Rodney Slater at transportation, Alexis Herman at labor, Mike Espy at agriculture (whose brief stay in the post was marked by a criminal investigation), and Jocelyn Elders as surgeon general–until she was asked to resign by the same president. George W. Bush appointed to the highest cabinet post–Secretary of State--Colin Powell and his successor, Condoleezza Rice, both black.

Black students nationwide continue to be handicapped by failing public schools, despite steadily increasing education funding. The one program offering an escape to black families from the hopeless public education morass is school vouchers, regularly championed by Republicans and resisted by Democrats. (One exception is black Democrat representative Curtis Brantley from South Carolina, who supports vouchers for his state. South Carolina, which ranks 50th in SAT scores, is considering school vouchers as a way to provide low income families a choice in educating their children.)

What have the Democrats done to deserve the loyalty of black voters? Beyond rhetoric, symbolic gestures, and preaching to the choir in black churches, what of substance do Democrats offer black voters? There are two types of programs Democrats use to pander to black voters–entitlements and affirmative action.

Since LBJ declared war on poverty, Democrats have faithfully protected the sanctity of entitlement programs, and villify Republicans who even propose reducing the rate of increase of entitlement funding. The Democrats now defend entitlements with the sort of enthusiasm with which they once defended slavery and segregation. The Democrats prove their solidarity with black voters by promising to keep open the tap on government largesse--the very programs which keep impoverished black voters dependent on government handouts.

The other half of the Democrat strategy for keeping the black vote is known by many names--affirmative action, quotas, set-asides or diversity programs. Whatever the euphemism, the idea is the same–tilt the scale so that blacks have greater access to higher education, jobs, loans, or any other valuable entity. This sounds charitable, until one realizes for each less-qualified individual who gains access because of affirmative action, a more qualified individual is denied.

Both entitlements and affirmative action are based on the same assumption–blacks are less qualified, less competitive, less knowledgeable and less capable. Because of this, they require government subsidy and institutional favoritism. While Democrats routinely support such programs, Republicans routinely oppose them. Democrats believe in dispensing advantage on the basis of race, Republicans believe in a level playing field. Democrats believe blacks can’t compete, Republicans believe they can.

Entitlements and affirmative action can apply to any minority, not just blacks. But these are the programs that Democrats use to appeal to black voters. Unfortunately, entitlements and affirmative action have drawn poor black Americans into a perpetual state of dependence. They have contributed to the breakdown of the family, high unemployment and a legacy of poverty from one generation to the next. Even as Democrats like John Edwards decry the gap between rich and poor, his party relies on a permanent underclass to support it at the polls. The entitlements Democrats use to buy black votes may at first have been well-meaning, but are now demonstrably addictive and destructive.

So the Democrats must court Barack Obama, to prove that their party does indeed offer higher opportunities for their black supporters. Otherwise, black Americans will realize that the government handouts the Democrats sponsor keep them on a virtual plantation–poor, dependent and with limited prospects. When this becomes clear, black voters may realize they have a choice–and exercise their right to choose a different and more rewarding future.

I feel what you saying. I think us, as a whole, need to let go of a lot of our insecurities when it comes to racism in this country. We also have to be able to distinguish between which battles are worth fighting and which ones do nothing more than distract our attention from the real issues that matter. All of these videos are excellent examples of how racism and ethnic insensitivity is alive a thriving.

One question I frequently ask myself is what separates us and our progress, or lack thereof, in this country, from the progress of other ethnic groups. There are a lot of bigots in this country that don't like jews, mexicans, arabs, etc, but their groups find a way to flourish in a society that, at times, acts like they don't want them here any more than they do us. We could blame it on the seemingly disproportionate media coverage that we receive when a black commits a crime versus someone from another race. Or, we could blame it on the judicial system and laws that appear to target our communities more than others. Maybe its drugs, black on black violence, etc. All of these, in reality are contributing factors, but at the same time, I see other groups facing the same challenges. Not to say the proportion of incidents is equal. When does reality end and looking in the mirror begin versus being in a no win situation constructed by the powers that be?

That just goes to show. I didn't know til' I had to go down there to visit a client. My low-key racist boss, at the time, was making a joke out if...tellin me not to speed through those parts. My boy was at a grocery store in Brentwood one day when he heard some white women on another aisle making some racial comments about us and using the N-word. When they saw him come around the corner, they wuz lookin' like assholes. The shit is so pathetic its damn near comical at times.

Yeah, unfortunately THEY LIVE! And I'm probably going to catch a whole lotta flack for this, but I'mma say it anyway. The reason we can't get rid of racism, hate, etc is because that's what this country is built on. As great of a country as America is, we must remember that a house is no greater than its foundation. I don't care if you paint, hang up pictures, plant flowers, spray air freshener, whatever, whatever...if the foundation is shakey, then ultimately, you have an unstable house.

As much as I love this country, no one can deny the fact that America was built on bloodshed. It started with the unjust slaughtering and ousting of the Native Americans. Today, the term "All-American" means blue eyes and blonde hair. But to be All-American really means to be Native American, because this land is rightfully theirs. Then, what about African American slavery? And not so much as the slavery part (because slavery existed long before then and even in the motherland), but the cruelty of the slavemasters? The raping, the lynching, the murdering, the unjust labor, and primitive outsourcing of our forefathers (and mothers)? Then...what about the eras after these events. The hate, the unsolved murders, the discrimination, and assassanation(s) of our black leaders?

So when these "aliens" show their true identity...they can't help it, because the spirit of hate is still alive and well, and is the very foundation of our country.

My personal belief is that the only way to rid this country of racism and bigotry is to go back to the foundation of this country...the same as you would do to a crumbling house. Somehow, we need to make restitution to the Native American decendants...and no, I'm not talking about giving them swamp land either! To really, REALLY apologize to them and come to some sort of mutual agreement or compromise. Some may feel that this is too extreme, but check it out...when it was discovered that Wachovia Bank had roots that traced back to the African American Slave Trade, they quickly issued a public apology.

I'm African American, so I feel strongly about my heritage and I feel that restitution should be made to our race. AND NO...I'M NOT ASKING FOR A HAND OUT!!!! I'm talking about more opportunities for our people. Let's start with Barack Obama...stop trying to put dirt on that man and let him run for President fair and square! Stop all this racial profiling and discrimination and play fair...period! Lastly, bigots should be overthrown! If someone shows blatent racism, bigotry, discrimation, or whatever...they should immediately be removed from their position. That goes for O'Reilly or whoever.

Its like I said in an earlier post, we can be hypersensitive and insecure when it comes to racism. Perfect example, Lebron on the Vogue cover. Yes, you could easily derive any argument, on both sides of the issue. The fact is, it isn't as obvious as a Kramer or Imus incident. With the time we spent bitching about the Vogue cover, or non-blacks bitchin about the Rev. Wright incident and trying to make it racial, we could have been doing something constructive. And when his Rev. is clearly in the wrong, saying things which were switched around towards black people you come to his defenses. It might not just be a primary concern...it might not be a concern to them at all. But let me ask you this, why in the world would you think that a middle aged wealthy white man would have the same concerns as you? Just like you do not care about his problems or concerns he might have in his life that effects him more realistically and sudden, why would he care about those that effect you, it's two different worlds. It's not about race most of the time either, it's about classes in money, and about age. To call this people fork tongued and devlish desires. Where it could be considered pretty offensive to those that are racially sensitive, and in the end, it is only as big of a deal, as you make it.

So anyways, my final point and main purpose of even writing you this message was to ask you one huge favor. Please keep all the race wars out of here...this is about hiphop. First off, I have to give props to ILLSEED for a great editiorial.

Now I think we need to define a couple of things here. I think the term Racists is used more than it should be. There are differences between racism,sterotypes, and prejudice.

Being a racist means that you actually hate a whole race of people.

A stereotype is a belief or a trait that (whether fairly or unfairly) is attached to a certain race or gender.

Prejudice is the act of prejudging someone based on a stereotype.

Now with that being said, do I think that these "aliens" are racists, not necessarily but I do think that they are very prejudiced. Our country and media are ran primarily by White people who harbor these same prejudices. I admit that I am prejudiced and I dare anyone on this site to say that they are not. Now I am not defending these people for saying the things that they said, but I am sure these are the things that they say when they are at home. Since I acknowledge that everyone is this way, it does not surprise me when I hear someone say some off the wall ignorant shit like Bill O'Reily.

I agree with some of what you said, because I think there are plenty of us African Americans who dont take advantage of the opportunities out there but dont get it twisted you said that Blacks are being used by the Democratic party, so are you saying that the Republicans are the answer? The Republican party mainly consists of conservative White males who cant relate to the average Black person, so why would I nominate and ride with someone that does not give a shit about me or my people. I am not saying that every person in the Democratic party is for us either, but at least there are enough Black voices within the Democratic party that do give a shit about where we stand in this country.

To those of you that have responded to me, I thank you for the respect you have shown with your disagreements. I'm mexican and my brother and I were raised by a poor single mother. Who refused to get foodstamps and get me and my brother free lunch at school. So I ate a whole lot of mustard sandwiches in the evening and was given $1 everday before school. She busted her ass to get me and my brother the clothes she couldn't afford. All that hard work has finally paid off for her she owns a beautiful 5000 sq feet home in the country. Her work ethic has never changed she now only has to work 1 job though but with her own time she makes her home even greater...

I guess what my point is what do you deserve? What do you want from the Government?/ What are they doing to you that they shouldn't be? What are you not getting that you want? Do you deserve something that I don't? I've had many run in with the police from when I was 15 to about 25 and everytime the turn out was bad I was in the wrong... Some of that time was even while I was in the Marine Corps, I'm Veteran of the Corps 1997-2001 Honorable discharge. I don't need to go on with my life story but I felt all through Middle School and High School White, Mexican, and Black kids were all on a level playing field and coming from a big High School with an amazing basketball history most notably Zack Randolph who plays for the Knicks right now (good friend of mine) I was the minority. So far I've done pretty well for myself not complaining about what special privileges I think I should have. I just want to know what you think society owes you??? I'm not talking about your grandparents, or your parents. I'm not trying to take away from the horrible this service this counry did many years ago that is a stain that this country will carry with it forever. It is however for everyone to start thinking forward and stop thinking backwards...

I'm glad you pointed that out because I have had white people say the exact same thing to me. That was the dialog I was attempting to provoke. Anyway, I actually had an employer say that to me and then he started backtracking when he realized that I would probably take offense. My point was this, we as African Americans, in this country, are very quick to point out when another race talks down to us or treats us unfairly, but do we ever question whether we contribute to it with some of our actions ( and no, it is never right to label everyone based on the actions of some, but that is exactly what they do ). For example, I have done my share of dirt in my younger years ( not selling crack or some destructive shit like that ), but some of those things would probably be looked at as not being a 100% legal. Now, if I was arrested for any of those actions, I could not blame anybody but myself. Even if it was a white cop and it was obvious that I was being profiled, I knew the consequences of my actions and decided to break the law regardless. The majority of cats I grew up with are walking stereotypes in everything from their actions, to how they live they life to their overall growth from adolesence to adulthood. I can say that to you cause I will, and have, told them to they face. I love my niggaz and I'm a tough love type of dude so I gotta shoot it to 'em str8. If my boy is fuckin' up, that's just what it is. I can also say that, cause we all came from the same "stereotypical" backgrounds (projects, single parent home, welfare, yadda yadda yada). If I could do it, then they have no excuse cause we all started with the same resources. Hell, some of them were way better off than me. The point is, I made certain choices in my life. Those choices led to desired outcomes. I've never been a victim or a follower ya dig. I don't settle for letting some other person dictate my ability to succeed. If they throw up a roadblock, I just find another "legitimate" route. The reality is, America has thrown up a shitload of unjust roadblocks. Some of us don't try to find "legitimate", alternate routes and it reflects in our lives, neighborhoods and overall progress as a people. I'll give you another example. My sister, god love her, has all the potential in the world but she feel like the world owe her something. She won't "woman up" and make the necessary choices to make her journey in life easier. I'm 31. She's 20. She's been fired from 3 times as many jobs than I've ever had in my life. Why..... that attitude and mouth. Instead of getting with the good dude who is in college and trying to better himself, she wants to marry the abusive 2 time felon. I could go on, but the point is, the decisions that she's made and continue to make are affecting her quality of life. Instead of looking in the mirror, she blames everybody else for her predictament. You can't spend 90% of your time complaining and feeling sorry for youself and 10% of your time trying to change your direction in life. You'll never make progress.

Now although my pops wasn't around, I did learn some important things from him. He, my grandfather and grandmother were all college professors. Their mentality is like a mix of Michael Eric Dyson and MLK. Hell my pops is damn near like Malcom X before the pilgrimage. Anyway, he has since remarried and I have two half black half Iranian brothers. Their mother is cool as hell. Their culture doesn't believe in marrying outside of the race. Doing so has literally put her and the children's lives in danger. It is even worse that she stepped out with a black man. Any of yall peep the foreign owned liquor stores, tobacco spots, etc in the hood? Well, my pops and step mom was tellin my how that shit ain't coincidence ( and some of us already know that ). When different groups come over here and are trying to get established in the American dream, their idea is that it is easy to make money by building these types of businesses in black neighborhoods. I worked with an Asian chick who basically told me the same shit. The way we are stereotyped is not just an American thing. It is an international idealogy. To outsiders, some see blacks as falling into one or more of these categories:

Class-less, welfare recipients, malt-liquor drinking, weed smoking, thuggish, uneducated, only good for entertainment.... you get the idea

Trust me, you will get called a Nigger in a foreign country just like you will in America. Now back to my original question....do we invite some of those stereotypes by our public actions or are we unfairly targeted by the media? Personally, I think it is a little of both. We can't be accountable for the ignorance of others, but we can find another "legitimate" way around their roadblocks. At the same time, we can be 100% accountable for are own actions and how we are portrayed to the world.

Thanks for the feedback. I peeped one of your previous posts about your Mexican heritage and do we, as blacks, think we're supposed to get special treatment. Alot of what you were saying about how your mother worked to get the family right, my mom was the same way. She was the type to not try to get my dad for child support or ask for handouts, etc. In a previous post I said:

"There are a lot of bigots in this country that don't like jews, mexicans, arabs, etc, but their groups find a way to flourish in a society that, at times, acts like they don't want them here any more than they do us."

Me personally, I don't see color. I see people and actions. Sometimes those actions just happen to be attached to an ethnicity. Often times the same repeated actions appear to coincide with the traits of a given ethnicity. This is one of the ingredients in the stereotype recipe. I live in Nashville, TN and we have a huge Mexican population. I live right on the borders of the community. The Mexican population here constitutes a perfect example of what I was trying to illustrate earlier. They basically run the area I live in for blocks and miles. They have successful businesses, churches, etc. In the ville, there are a lot of people who don't want them here and have negative shit to say about them. Trust me, the whites around here will say it like its politically correct. My point is, in the short time I've lived here, I've watched the Latino community grow and build based on their unity, family values and work ethic. This is often the same with other races, such as asian, indian, etc. I tip my hat to all these races for basically saying, "Fuck the bullshit. I can't let these bigots fuck up my paper or affect how I provide for my family". Keep up the good.

My ONLY problem is that, at times, people who are not racist at all make statements without thinking about how the wording they chose will sound, and it can come off as racist to some.
I'm not saying people like Conway didn't mean what they said, because it appears she did, and they often do, but at times people do say things in a way that can come off as racist, when they don't mean for it to, and when they are not, in fact, racist.

I know that I, for one, say things a lot of the time without thinking about it, something that I have been working my whole life to correct. And yes, once or twice I have made statements that can come off as racist, and only later realized that, by my poor choice of wording, it could be interpreted that way.
Basically I'm saying that you cannot always say a person had racist intentions when they say something that could be interpreted in such a way. Well technically, you can say that, but you won't always be right.

All that being said, I agree with everything you said in your article, mayne. And like you said, the quotes you used weren't casual slips of the tongue.

Work together or go down together- Amen to that!

And as a side note, as a "white" individual, I think it needs to start (helping curb racism, that is) with parents telling their children why its WRONG to use certain terms in any situation, regardless of who is or is not there to see it.

Funny...I recently watched the making of "Songs in the Key of Life" (an album made 30+ years ago mind you) and Stevie broke down the meaning of his song "Pastime Paradise". Nice article illseed...I have a white friend that hates chris rock saying he's racist against whites...and if a white guy were to do the same thing except flip it about blacks there would be an outcry. He is probably right.

My argument against this is the whole oppressed vs opressor theory. i'm not the least bit suprised!! these folks are the devil in human form!!!! they've killed over 600,000 people in there lousy 6,000 year existence!! we are the people of god that have been here trillions of years!!!this new man ,this devil, this beast is new to our planet!!! everything in nature has a natural enemy..the dog and cat , the bird and worm, the rat and cat, the lion and hieena etc. this devil is our natural enemy!!! he always will be!!! you can raise cats and dogs together and they will get along fine but there nature comes out sometimes when its time to eat, look at it family!!!!

Listen, i can agree that if Barack becomes president and some how dies, I'm ridin' out. But white people aren't the only racists. Plenty of black people on this site and in the world, HATE white people. So much so that they'd whoop a kids ass for nothing and would it be called a hate crime? no. I'd rather the world be peaceful but it's not. It's filled with subversive humans on every side trying to disrupt the progress. I dislike racist as much as the next man but i won't ride with racist either. It's white vs black because the people want it to be that. We could over come this by peaceful displays of love but we won't. Instead we'd just keep the hate train rollin. I'm down though, let an hate filled soul come at me, i'll make sure to free that soul from their body.
