I say that to say this: Jay-z endorsing Obama is LATE. Where was Jay when he [Obama] was trying to SECURE the nomination. .

So, Jay-z promoting Obama is for his own self. Why? because the hip-hop community was ALREADY behind Obama. These celebrities are ALL the same. Why? because they ALL showed support after the fact.

Where was Jay-z support 15 months ago.. hmmm, jay has to think about coporate money before he makes a decision. we all know this. I supported Obama throughout and so did everyother struggling american.

so, please don't think a RAPPER (because thats what he IS) will influence a political decision out of me. I mean, i like the music i buy. but i can make my own decision.

What jay is doing will most positively help young voters be aware of how HUGE this election is...lets face it, music is powerful and jay is an icon in the eyes of both young and old, so when talks, people listen.any black person that grew up listining to their parents hoping and praying to in their lifetime seeing a black president and NOT go out and vote for OBAMA is a fool.we may never in our lifetime see ourselves in this position again, so you know what, more positive rappers should fallow jay's lead.

Come on now. That is a weak argument. Sure, Jay-Z has rhymed about selling crack or what not but I don't necessarily see any obvious motive in supporting B-Rock. Jay has grown and matured since those days, he sees things in a different light than he used to. I don't know what racist is in your book, but that was a clear example of it right there.

I do agree that we, as a community, shouldn't always throw the RACE CARD out there, but in some cases it definitely applies. Racism is here and the republican presidential nominee made that abundantly clear on Tuesday.

As for Diddy and Hov, I can see where the Minister was coming from. I don't necessarily agree with the way he wrote it. All he was saying is that Jay should have used his influence over the youth of our community a long time ago. I think Hov is very sincere in what he has been doing for Obama, the timing just made it look like it could be something else. As for Diddy, I believe in him more than Hov in this respect. Do you not remember '04 with the VOTE OR DIE campaign. Diddy has been out here trying to get everyone aware of what is going on in the world. The only reason that is not happening this time is in '04 he started tellin people not to vote for Bush, which obviously he shouldn't have done. So, this year he went the way of the viral videos where he can say whatever he wants and in an odd way do the same thing he was doing in '04!!! Diddy is definitely an opportunist, but he is not using this campaign for that. Not totally anyway. He is sincere in him wanting Barack to be elected, wanting a DEMOCRAT elected. Of course the videos are going to boost ratings on his shows, but I think the driving force behind them was to get Barack Obama in office! And to be honest with you all......I don't see where either of them have done anything wrong.

Your article was a decent read, but thats it. I hope this is not your opinion and I hope you discussed this with someone else first. Back in the 80's groups like Public Enemy...had the song Fight The Power...we now have someone who could possibly be the power and he understands what it is like to struggle. Just like Jay-Z knows what it is like to struggle. In one breath you say hip-hop isn't about the struggles of inner city youth yet about businessman who rap about crack, girls and guns. Now that he is talking about someone else, you take shots at him. You also said Jay should have been using his voice(which you note can change the landscape of entertainment) but if Jay would have been rapping politcally like a Dead Prez for instance...he would be in the same position Dead Prez is in...The underground...now its nothing wrong with that, but we need change from both sides...Within and on the outside. Jigga's album Kingdom Come, was not about selling crack, or chicks or guns, but yet that album is regarded as his WORST ALBUM(although lyrically and content wise) maybe one of his BEST. This is when all the talk of Jigga falling off started. So this is my point. The MASSES don't really want to hear political rap, and when someone as BIG AND KNOWN AS JIGGA, makes an album about something other than the norm...it does not sell or get accepted well.

Its women at homeless shelters, that need housing & real food to eat.

Its young kids looking for a brother or sister, cuz they was abandon by there parents & looking for a rolemodel.

Its elderly men & women in nursing homes that love when you visit them, cuz there families gave up on them.

Its kids in urban neighborhoods looking for a cleaner playground/ basketball court so they can do things to occupy there mind from the drugs & crimes they go on in there hood.

Its young women that are pregnant & still in high school that need free care for there babies, but not educated about it.

I think the author of the article definitely has a point. Forget 'register to vote' how about somebody talks about issues. Not only that where is vote or die now? Hip hop across the board has supported Obama but more on the underground level. Personally when I saw Jay-Z was doing free concerts I just thought 'whatever' it doesn't matter. I remember I saw Jay-Z perform at the Africa Aid concert I believe back in '06' instead of saying something about the cause at hand, 'supporting the fight against HIV/AIDS' he by passed it and just began to perform. Those at the top in hip hop need to start talking the talk and walking the walk because most people can see through the B.S.

I think Jay responded to these genres of articles before they were written by clearly stating, "I rock with Obama but I ain't no politician." This quote is the rebuttal to the article. Jay is not a politician, he is an artist/entrepeneur whose words carry more weight due to his popularity. He is exercising his constitutional right to speak freely, but the difference is his name is Sean Carter and millions of people want to hear him. We should command him for expressing his political views and inspiring many others to do the same.

Jay z is not the man, He is a great artist but not a great mind in terms of being socially aware.
Tell me one of his Cd's over his entire career that gave back to the hood in the way of jewels for those that have delt with the same social ills that has affected him?
The whole rap world got fucked up when we coined the word "HATER", because it gave a pass to anybody that came up with anything catchy with a nice beat.
What sets artist like Jay z aside is his lyrical abilities and his business savvy, but not the heart that drives a culture so that everybody is able to benefit from what he delivers to the market.
I love his body of work for what it is, but dont go sayn that he is the man and making him bigger than just another self serving cat that benefited from his association with Hip Hop.

But I personally think its a good look that Jay-Z is endorsing Obama. It shows that Obama is for the PEOPLE. Not only do you have ordinary people pushing for Obama, you have movie stars, politcal figures, and musicians...some of those musicians happen to be Hip Hop artists who came from the bottom, experienced that hard life, and are now changed people. But weather they are changed or not, it shows that it is still some good in people and ultimately, we all want the country to move forward.

There is too much hate going on when it comes to our people. It's like the more money some us have or the more successful we are, the more OUR people hate. Why can't Diddy, Jay-Z, and different ones just be smart, black business men? Why do they have to be crooked, sellouts, selfish, overrated, coniving etc? I think Jay-Z and Diddy ARE great minds. And they are active when it comes to the community. They donated a combined 1 million dollars to the Hurricane Katrina relief. And yet, we STILL hate! But if Eminem were to come out and endorse Obama (which he hasn't yet, BTW), ya'll would fall in love with that racist cracker all over again and suck him off until you got lock jaw.

Green Party???? Let's face it, no one from the Green Party will ever make a significant difference or hold any kind of high office...at least not this generation. No diss to underground and conscious Hip Hop artists, but I'd much rather someone have the money and clout to make a difference than to spit political rhymes over an entire album, where a Nigger T-shirt in public, and nothing get done.

Man, I swear...if it's one thing I hate about being black, it's the fact that we hate our own people. It's very disheartening! We got love for everything and anything until it comes down to our own.
