AllHipHop.com: What was your sister’s relationship with Jay, business wise?
Randy Allen: She [did] the admin part of our business; you know if we are going to produce something, she will make sure the admin part is right. That’s all Lydia did. Her and Jay were like brother and sister as we all came up together in the same neighborhood.
AllHipHop.com: Did she ever say what she saw when all this transpired?
Randy Allen: Lydia’s situation right now, we shouldn’t talk about, as she is dealing with all that info with the cops. They are still working with Lydia on that as that is a major part of the case, and I don’t want to go in too deep on that. I will say this: Lydia did her part [in the case].
AllHipHop.com: She saw two people coming in?
Randy Allen: Whatever she saw, she told them exactly what she saw. As far as the case is concerned it makes a difference, but in the streets, it don’t make a difference. [If] the cops know who shot Jay through Lydia, will they go get them?
AllHipHop.com: The snitching phenomenon.
Randy Allen: Yeah, that’s how the streets look at it, you know if the streets find out, they ain’t going to f**k with that no more as “she’s snitching.” The cops call when they get some new leads popping off, they call me; they call my sister, I’m not sure if they calling Jay’s brother, the one who is implicating me and my sister. I am not sure if he can help the situation, I think he just makes it worse. People like him, people like Shake. Like I said before I don’t live in Hollis. The motherf**ker who shot Jay lives in Hollis; Jay’s brother and sister live in Hollis. A motherf**ker from Hollis comes and shoots my best friend, and a person who lives in Hollis is telling everyone, “Ask Randy Allen about it.” Everyone walks around and allows themselves to believe that Randy and Lydia had something to do with this in some form of fashion.
AllHipHop.com: Now speaking of the drug dealing allegations, was Jay dealing drugs? I mean I heard six months earlier that he had gone down to Baltimore to set up some sort of deal and a kid from Queens called Yahquim ran off with the money. Is there any truth in that and who is Yahquim?
Randy Allen: In this rap game, from the beginning, it always drew in your worst drug dealers, we all know this s**t. As far as Jay was concerned, Run-DMC was a very wholesome type of group; they seldom used profanity, they were everywhere, they weren’t considered underground street motherf**kers. Jay was a regular dude like everybody else. I’ve never been around Jay on no drug deals, like I never f**ked with Jay when he f**ked with Shake, whatever his reason was for f**king with Shake. Jay was my brother, he would tell me certain things not to be involved in and not to be around. If we were talking and Jay said some funny s**t, I would be the only person, not his family, not Shake, I was the only person who could stand in front of Jay and tell him to stop talking that bulls**t; no one else had the heart to say that to him.
AllHipHop.com: It had been printed there was a fire in the studio and an insurance claim had been filed and it implied that there was some type of rift between you and Jay over money.
Randy Allen: Never, never. Me and Jay’s relationship wasn’t based on no money. We talked about money one time when we produced the Run-DMC record, and then we were talking because Run wanted us to pay something, and me and Jay were debating whether we should. It wasn’t about money it was about what we wanted to do.
AllHipHop.com: Your brother, Teddy Allen, what was his relationship with Jay? And when I ask the second part of the question, I am not implying that any of y’all are Jay’s enemies; but did Jay have any enemies that you knew about, or any beefs?
Randy Allen: That s**t you saying about Teddy is coming from that same block, the same people, same old bulls**t. Teddy and Jay were like brothers. First it was me, then Lydia, now Teddy. Everyone is just reaching right now. The funny thing is everyone putting this s**t out knows who shot Jay because they live right in the neighborhood.
AllHipHop.com: Did Jay have enemies out there that you knew of?
Randy Allen: You know the whole story about the Curtis Scoon gun. They been going back and forth on that. It had me on Curtis Scoon’s punk ass once or twice. I am a street n***a, I know what drives n***as to do dumb s**t, and I can see where s**t is coming from. Scoon is from Hollis, man. If there’s anything going on in Hollis and Hollis is nothing more than a four-block radius, in those four blocks is Jay’s old house. I heard after Jay got shot, a few people from Hollis didn’t like Jay.
AllHipHop.com: Focusing on the people in the studio, was Pretty Tones relationship with Jay?
Randy Allen: Pretty Tone was the dude if we went to a club, Tony would be driving. He was a regular dude with a nine-to-five who came through every now and again. If there was a party going on in Puerto Rico, Tony would want to go and get a ticket and roll.
AllHipHop.com: Just a normal cat that wanted to hang around some rap stars?
Randy Allen: Yeah, you know, he would just go tell his broad, “Yo, I was around [so and so] today.” The only thing I don’t appreciate is motherf**kers saying [to me], “Yo Randy, you was in the studio.” Just like Busta Rhymes came up to me after it first happened and asked if I was in the studio and he gives me a sad face when I tell him I was. But his bodyguard got shot and when people ask him, he gives that same sad face that I gave. Tony was sitting right next to my dog when he got shot and he never saw who shot Jay, that’s the only thing that’s got me f**ked up.
AllHipHop.com: Right after Jay got shot, Lyor Cohen came out and issued a statement kind of supporting you, saying there was no insurance policy, if there had been he would have known. Is there any reason that you know of why you, Russell and Lyor aren’t speaking? Is that you putting that on hold, or are they not returning your calls?
Randy Allen: In the beginning, when it first happened, I spoke to Russell and I spoke to Lyor often, but then I started reading this and reading that and all this s**t implicating me. Lyor put me on the payroll to work with Jay, you know he was like, “If I need to speak to Jay, just pass him the phone,” as I was with him 24 hours. When we came back off that little road trip, I went to Lyor and said I thought something was going to happen to Jay’s nephew, Boe. I said, “Lyor, why don’t you go half with me or reach out for a n***a to send him down south, you know send him out of the smoke until s**t clears up and we figure out who is running around shooting who?” Lyor told me, “My lawyer said not to get involved.” So I thought that was kind of f**ked up. So I just said I wouldn’t call Lyor no more.
AllHipHop.com: Talking about Jay’s wife Terri, it was floating around that she was having an affair with Kenneth McGriff Supreme. Obviously he is now getting ready to face the death penalty. Did you know anything about that? As it was floating about that McGriff had a hit on you early on and I was wondering if you knew any of that stuff?
Randy Allen: That one right there is a little deep. Whatever relationships Jay’s wife had with whomever, that’s her business. If she did have that, then no one is concerned with that.
AllHipHop.com: What about the hit on you?
Randy Allen: That came to me at one point.
AllHipHop.com: What was the root of that?
Randy Allen: The root of that was I knew she was f**king with him, and I was Jay’s best friend and [they thought] “He gonna tell Jay...kill him.” You know I am supposed to know someone is f**king with someone, so that was how that went down.
AllHipHop.com: How is your relationship with Boe?
Randy Allen: Boe is in California. I went out there to see him a couple of times; he is out there doing his thing.
AllHipHop.com: Not having closure to it makes it that much worse, knowing that the person is still out there on the street…
Randy Allen: What makes it worse is he is running around in the neighborhood. People who live in Hollis where Jay came from, they might be scared or nervous and not wanting to say s**t as they don’t want that n***a coming around and shooting up their family; so they sit back and keep their mouth shut. I ain’t going nowhere until I find out who killed my n***a.
AllHipHop.com: What do you think the outcome of this whole scenario is going to be?
Randy Allen: it is going on the backburner and it will probably go back to where it should have been in the f**king beginning. Let the streets handle it; motherf**kers should have never brought Randy Allen into it. Everywhere I go to this day, the cops are following me. Motherf**kers are stepping behind me now and it’s going internal rather than external with me. Leave Randy Allen alone, as I am the only person who is going to go out and find out who did this. Everyone else is living their lives. I am here in New York, I didn’t leave. Shake don’t live here so he can go back to Milwaukee or wherever he is from, and that’s it. I am going to stay here until things get right.
