Webbie: Savage Nomad
Published Monday, May 05, 2008 8:00 AM
By Erica Roane & Robert Longfellow
We have all read the reports. “Webbie Being Sued By Concert Promoter,” “Rapper Webbie Suffers From Seizure,” “Rapper Webbie Fakes Seizures.” Then most recently it was video ready to give a radio DJ a two piece and a biscuit wit an extra order of fries. All have left those who have read these encounters simply wondering what the hell is wrong with dude?

Let’s go ahead and give credit where credit is due. Webbie does his thing as an independent artist, having achieved nationwide fame with catchy yet controversial hit such as “Gimme That Pu**y.” Funny, the same chicks he was asking to give it up he gave props to with the single “Independent” from his recent Savage Life 2 album.

In light of all of this, when we interviewed Webbie the first time he did not expect AllHipHop.com to ask about these allegations. Rather than using this time to set the record straight he went left field with the whole thing. However, before he banged out this is what AllHipHop.com got out of him, after two interviews.

AllHipHop.com: What’s up Webbie!

Webbie: What’s going on?

AllHipHop.com: Nothing much. First things first, are you hospitalized right now?

Webbie: No way.

AllHipHop.com: Did you have a seizure?

Webbie: Nah, I was drinking too much I got too drunk and people thought I had a seizure

AllHipHop.com: Do you know when your fans in Baltimore can expect a make-up concert from you?

Webbie: Aww man you could have [just] came straight out with that. Me and Lil Boosie, we showed up but the fire marshal came and shut the club down. [If] the fire marshal say get out, we gotta go. If ya’ll wanna stay, ya’ll can stay but we gonna listen to the fire marshal.

AllHipHop.com: According to reports you scheduled a make-up concert, any word on when fans can expect a make-up?

Webbie: Aw that sounds like you need to have an interview with management.

AllHipHop.com: As far as your situation in Baltimore you’re being sued for 1 million dollars…

Webbie: [Laughs] So what is this the comedy section now, this is the comedy part of the interview?

AllHipHop.com: That wasn’t even the question….I was getting to it…

Webbie: Oh, cuz that sounded real funny.

AllHipHop.com: So, is there a reason why this chick is suing you for a million dollars?

Webbie: Once again that’s a question you need to ask management. All I do is make music for my fans and sell records.

AllHipHop.com: Have you ever thought of looking toward your management as a cause for all of these problems that you’re having with promoters?
Webbie: No ma’am I don’t have a problem at all with my management.

AllHipHop.com: I read that you offered to do the show for free….did you hear back from the promoter as to when you can set that up?

Webbie: Aww man! Let me give you the number to management. [gives the number] I can’t answer not one question that you asking me right now.  I’m not the right person to even start answering these questions. But if you want to hear about a hit song,  we got my album dropping, Boosie coming after me. When you wanna talk about something the artist can answer gimme a call.

[Click...Dead Air]

[Editor’s Note: We couldn’t leave it at that.]

AllHipHop: What was the motivation behind "Independent"?

Webbie: It was a lot of motivation behind the song. Last night I was with two of the most independent women in the world, my twin daughters. I got my sisters, I got my grandmother, my aunties, my cousins – women I know, just working around the office. I do music for everybody.

[Webbie "Independent"]

AllHipHop.com: What sparked the idea to make the song, anything in particular?

Webbie: No, I was just grooving I got... “I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T,” it was good, so I start rapping “Independent.”

AllHipHop.com: Were people surprised hearing that from you? Because one of your biggest hits is "Give Me That” and to come with “Independent” is a different twist.

Webbie: Yeah, for some people. But people who really know me and understand my music, they wasn't surprise. Because on "Give Me That," I wasn't just disrespecting girls like, "Give me that p***y, b***h." I was just playing. I was just like "Girl, gimme that," girls like having fun, they like having sex just like us, man. That’s why when I go to the concerts first ten rows be nothing but bad b***hes and when "Girl Gimme That" come on, that be they favorite song. Some of them be virgins, they just like it.

AllHipHop.com: Is that the case at most of your shows—you have a big fan-base of women?

Webbie: For sure, but the dudes are going to come too. They are going come.

AllHipHop.com: How did “Fly as an Eagle” with Pimp C come about?

Webbie: That’s a hook from one of my dogs, Pimp did down here. That’s Pimp C singing on the hook a lot of people didn't know he could sing like that. But he told me, Rip the b***h, and I did.

AllHipHop.com: How influential was he to your work?

Webbie: He taught me a lot of s**t. He was always talking about getting that money, man. Getting that f***ing money. Last time we was talking about going platinum. That’s the thing we miss the most, seeing his name in a platinum plaque. Just since he dead we ain’t going to slow down, we use that as motivation and keep going. He was on one day and the next day he's gone, he already knew what time it was.

AllHipHop.com: What’s it like working with Lil’ Boosie, it seems like you all got great chemistry when you guys work together.

Webbie: Yeah, that’s like my brother man. We is Trill fam. We started this s**t from the mud, we like the seeds. Now the tree is growing and leaves getting big and sprouting over me, him, the CEO’s. Man we come from the mud and we was the seeds and now we finally sprouting.

AllHipHop.com: So what else you got popping now, you got album dropping?

Webbie: The album drops yesterday. I can’t wait to see if my fans really keeping loyal and really go buy it out the store. That’s what the numbers are going to show, how loyal my fans is. We got Gangsta Musik 2 coming, we got The Return of BoosieBadAss. We got the ghetto start moving, we got to keep going, we got a lot s**t coming.

AllHipHop.com: Now there are a lot of crazy rumors going around about you. Do want to set the record straight? Is their anything you want to clear up?

Webbie: No man... you know my fans know me, Savage Life 2 in stores, go get it. They know me, I ain’t no regular sell out man. I’m a regular human being right here living my life. I might make a mistake and trip over a motherf***ing something. I'll slip on a puddle of water. I'm just a regular motherf***er, man. I might make a mistake and drop my plate on the ground and waste the s**t all over my shoes. Ain’t s**t changed over here man. I hope they ain’t expecting me to be a perfect motherf***er. I wasn’t made for the cameras. The camera just makes me money.

[Webbie "I Miss You"]

AllHipHop.com: Can you tell me about “I Miss You” and the motivation behind it?

Webbie: It’s just another one for the girls, featuring LeToya Luckett. Some people ain’t going to understand that s**t. I'm just finally getting off of s**t like that. I just made 22, so I’m starting to see some feelings getting involved and s**t. You get a real girl, you start missing her, I just got to rhyming about that s**t.

AllHipHop.com: What do you think is the biggest misconception about you?

Webbie: I don’t know one. I ain’t in to all that s**t, I’m just living my life.

AllHipHop.com: So you're 22, what are your plans for the future?

Webbie: Watch my kids grow, watch them be successful, watch them go a whole other route than me. I got twin daughters and three. If they want to be actors, they want to be actors. If they want to be ballerinas, whatever they want to be, go for that s**t. I wanted to have the money to put them where they want to be. I don’t want them to be forced to do no type of s**t.

AllHipHop.com: What if your kids came at you like “I want to be a rapper.” Would you like that?

Webbie: You mean would I let them? They can do whatever they want to do, anything and all things. As long as they handle their s**t like a man or like a woman, they can do their s**t however they want to do. If they want to go to the moon…as long as their safe going to that b***h. Me being me, I’m going to say that’s some crazy stupid ass s**t, but that's their damn thing. They can do whatever they want to do. I’m going to see you when you get back, I don’t want to go to that motherf***er.

I’m tired of people saying what’s real hip-hop and what’s not. The fact is people rap to represent where they are from. I can’t really relate to someone from New York cause I’m not from there but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like to listen to their music if I think it’s hot. When the West Coast came with gangster rap it wasn’t considered hip-hop it was gangster rap. If you just close your mouth and if you really know music don’t nobody care if its real hip hop or not. To some people it might sound good so they are going to like it and if you don’t then don’t listen to it plain and simple. As much as I have been coming to this site I haven’t herd anyone comment on country or rock music oh yeah that’s cause 99% of black people out there don’t listen to it so why comment on it right? Right, I do admit there are a lot of people that’s in the music industry that has not talent what so every but you can’t blame them they don’t draw up  the contracts they just sign them. It’s not about music anymore it’s about who you can market. Some people say Webbie came off like a asshole in that first interview and he had every right to the bitch was pissing me off asking the same shit over and over after he told her what it was and who she can talk to. Sounds like she was hungry for that same 2 piece he was about to give DJ Wrekk.
