always humble...

only thing i didnt agree with was the "creating the vibe" situation, cuz for example, he mentioned that all engineers should be setting the tone and vibe for a beat, but Scarface kept sayin that he should be creditted for the vibe since he distinctly told the engineers what to do, BUT how do you create a vibe for an artist when the artist is in the engineer's head telling him what to do? Face also said that he wants to be a "bull in his own motherfuckin yard", but considering the engineer's would want to do that too, wouldnt telling the engineers to create a certain vibe, then takin credit for it be detrimental to a producer for them to set their own tone?

Other than that, great interview.

Let's put Jay's quote in perspective. At the time that movie came out (1983), there were no rap legends (and presumably Brad was still running the streets). There were respected groups and pioneers but rap was still maturing. Mind playin' tricks on me was released in '91--Jay was already in the game.

It is what it is. The old music industry model is dying, but the conglomerates still control the venues. So even though the independent market is emerging fast, don't expect the big three to go down without a fight. They control the venues and they control the media outlets. Great interview.

I just heard that jay-z song a few minutes ago. Good thing I listen to whats being said instead of instigating nonexistent beef. In case some people didnt understand what jay meant was that with all of this drama going on in hip hop and this year was a big attack on hip hip especially artists, scarface the rapper didnt influence him to sell dope but watching the money, coke and hoes in scarface the movie motivated him to do dumb shit and yes I said dumb shit cuz riding round the hood with 99yrs in the trunk aint fuckin smart.
