I think some of y'all missed the entire point of what Mr. Crack said.

Look @ 18 points as meaning 18% of the money made off record sales, with the company keeping the other 82%.

You recieved an advance, a recording budget and a promotional budget (which is open ended), all of which must be repaid to the company before you begin to see your 18% cut; meanwhile the company sees their 82% (really 100%) from day one. So lets say your album doesn't perform well by major label standards, and the label "loses" money; well they will just give you another advance and budget (placing you further in debt to them.) So your second album performs better, but now you owe from this album, plus the first album. Then, for good or bad, once you have a hit record, the label pours even more money into the promotion of your record placing most artists in a unrecoupable position. The record company, however, continues to make millions off of these so called "underperforming records".

When y'all say that Fat Joe and Camron ain't sellin', or watchin 50 Cent sell 700,000 copies in one week and calling it a failure, I believe that you are only echoing what you hear in the media and are not making your own opinion on matters; and this is the exact reason why none of us are on like the folks we keep hating on.

See, y'all look at Koch as a bad deal because 50 said it was a bad deal. But, Koch would be a bad deal for 50! what better deal do y'all have?

The only reason 50 was signed to a major is because he was sellin' in the 100,000 - 200,000 range independently...duh

Also, with an independent label, sales of 100,000 - 200,000 units are seen as big successes, the deals are better, and you have a better chance of recouping and making a decent, maybe really good living off of your craft.

I mean let's face it, everybody is not going to get insanely rich and famous, but if the consumer would begin to like music because they like it, not because everyone else likes it; everybody could get there's. We can be the ones who help change the behavior.

Do you think "Lean Back" was a big record ?
What about "Make It Rain" ?
Look back in his catalog even further...This guy has moved units!

(The SINGLE "On Fire" went gold)... Even if you want to say "well he is a part of G-Unit", okayl, then their album is 2X Platinum...so that would give Lloyd Banks 3 million... 3 does NOT equal 20 homie...

And every one talking "Joe raped this person" Joe ruined that person's career", Fat Joe didn't have the ultimate authority in terms of releasing records. His label was a subsidiary of Major labels (Atlantic, Universal, etc) that had the final say in who got released, when they got released, how much budget they would have, etc.
