I respect all the opinions on here because we are all entitled to them, but what i see as the problem is that title says "KIN: Black Lesbians Rock". Like its "cool" or "hip" to be specifically a "black lesbian". Now im not talking about the article itself, but the headline. The headline is what sites use to have you click the link. Its the most important part, without that, who would read the article that just said "KIN: 2 females rappers". Basically, it calling attention to there sexual preference rather than the music. You don't see titles like "LL cool J: the straight rapper". Many people don't read all the articles on this site, but do see the headlines, and sub consciously these thinks seep in. I feel sorry for people who do not view their spirituality as apart of their lives and their relaity, what else drives you then? The mother of my daughter decided after messing with this ignant niguh to go dyke and put it in my kid's face for years, now I have sole custody of the child and we worked out visitation just today. It has been my experience that gay people with kids actually do not encourage their kids to be gay with words, meaning not intentionally, which I find odd. If nothing is wrong with that lifestyle why don't they teach these kids (either through past hetero relationships or adoption) that it is the way? Instead they teach tolerance. Who is the hypocrite? It seems to me that in my years dealing with homosexuals, I can conclude, they know that what they are doing is wrong (in society's view), they know God disapproves, they also know they want to do their own thing.
Homosexuality isn't biological, it's a choice like brushing your teeth, having sex, driving to the store, who you marry. I have yet to meet a gay person who can convince me that they were always gay from birth! Even kids in the first grade have crushes, so what's up?

Here's my humbled opinion. I think what makes them different is that they are coming out and making it known what they are. People have a problem with rappers not "coming out of the closet" and when they do, it's still a problem.

It appears that the problem is with the people and not the artists. Also, all of these religious heads preach unconditional love but when their child or someone close to them reveals who they are, they are shunned. Well that's not unconditional love.

For those who may think that homosexuality is a choice and not something you're born with. Well, I think it's both. Not every homosexual or lesbian went to jail. Alot of them make it clear that they had those feelings as a child, people really can not offically give a reason unless they are in that predicament.

Anyway, I can't restrain myself. Here's my two cents. Homosexuality is not right or wrong, a choice or a lifestyle. It's not debate, or shouldn't be. It just is. Kind of like being Black. It always has been. The first historically recorded gay couple was the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten and his lover Smenkhkare. No one seemed bothered by this, according to the historians. If anything, their challenging of the power of the clergy is what ultimately led to his demise and Tutankhamen's ascension. But from these men to some of the first great astrologers, gay men from the Kingdom of Dogan to the all-women's army of Dahomey, gay women and men have always been here and part of every Black community. They, like heterosexual Afrikans, were there when we were dragged across the middle passage; there during chattel slavery; and there during every single struggle for liberation in which we've been engaged. So I would argue that MXGM in fact cannot exist under its current mission--to forward the rights of New Afrikans--without the 7th Priniciple anymore than it can or should exist without a Prinicple challenging sexism. The idea that homosexuality in someway undermines Black families/the availability of Black men for Black women is simply, historically inaccurate. LGBTI have always presented in any and every population within roughly the same numbers. Exact figures are hard to track down because for years there was such forced silence, but there's no evidence that numbers of those identifying within one of the aforementioned categories has changed. And yet there have been changes in the traditional--here I mean two parents, couple of kids--family. But this doesn't occur until the 1970s. It occurs with the increase of urban poverty which forced a reliance on the government's welfare system, an institution which disallowed a man from moving into a woman's home if she received some form of TANF. Between that incursion into our families and the prison system which in 1968 controlled some 200,000 people, and at the end 2005, the last year you can get accurate numbers, some 7.7 million people were under its control--including at least 1,000,000 Black men who were not on parole or probation, but in a prison or jail cell, what our families look like has indeed changed. To conflate those issues with support for the human rights of Afrikans who identify LGBTI, cannot be supported by facts. we may go back and forth speculating about who or what Minister Malcolm would be down with today. We do know he admonished us to know our history, for of all our subjects its rewards were greatest. And we do know we loved him so because he was a man in a constant state of evolution, which for me remains his most enduring lesson: to always struggle to evolve.

During the past few years strong movements have developed among women and among homosexuals seeking their liberation. There has been some uncertainty about how to relate to these movements.
Whatever your personal opinions and your insecurities about homosexuality and the various liberation movements among homosexuals and women (and I speak of the homosexuals and women as oppressed groups), we should try to unite with them in a revolutionary fashion. I say " whatever your insecurities are" because as we very well know, sometimes our first instinct is to want to hit a homosexual in the mouth, and want a woman to be quiet. We want to hit a homosexual in the mouth because we are afraid that we might be homosexual; and we want to hit the women or shut her up because we are afraid that she might castrate us, or take the nuts that we might not have to start with.
We must gain security in ourselves and therefore have respect and feelings for all oppressed people. We must not use the racist attitude that the White racists use against our people because they are Black and poor. Many times the poorest White person is the most racist because he is afraid that he might lose something, or discover something that he does not have. So you're some kind of a threat to him. This kind of psychology is in operation when we view oppressed people and we are angry with them because of their particular kind of behavior, or their particular kind of deviation from the established norm.
Remember, we have not established a revolutionary value system; we are only in the process of establishing it. I do not remember our ever constituting any value that said that a revolutionary must say offensive things towards homosexuals, or that a revolutionary should make sure that women do not speak out about their own particular kind of oppression. As a matter of fact, it is just the opposite: we say that we recognize the women's right to be free. We have not said much about the homosexual at all, but we must relate to the homosexual movement because it is a real thing. And I know through reading, and through my life experience and observations that homosexuals are not given freedom and liberty by anyone in the society. They might be the most oppresed people in the society.
And what made them homosexual? Perhaps it's a phenomenon that I don't understand entirely. Some people say that it is the decadence of capitalism. I don't know if that is the case; I rather doubt it. But whatever the case is, we know that homosexuality is a fact that exists, and we must understand it in its purest form: that is, a person should have the freedom to use his body in whatever way he wants.
That is not endorsing things in homosexuality that we wouldn't view as revolutionary. But there is nothing to say that a homosexual cannot also be a revolutionary. And maybe I'm now injecting some of my prejudice by saying that "even a homosexual can be a revolutionary." Quite the contrary, maybe a homosexual could be the most revolutionary.
When we have revolutionary conferences, rallies, and demonstrations, there should be full participation of the gay liberation movement and the women's liberation movement. Some groups might be more revolutionary than others. We should not use the actions of a few to say that they are all reactionary or counterrevolutionary, because they are not.
We should deal with the factions just as we deal with any other group or party that claims to be revolutionary. We should try to judge, somehow, whether they are operating in a sincere revolutionary fashion and from a really oppressed situation. (And we will grant that if they are women they are probably oppressed.) If they do things that are unrevolutionary or counterrevolutionary, then criticize that action. If we feel that the group in spirit means to be revolutionary in practice, but they make mistakes in interpretation of the revolutionary philosophy, or they do not understand the dialectics of the social forces in operation, we should criticize that and not criticize them because they are women trying to be free. And the same is true for homosexuals. We should never say a whole movement is dishonest when in fact they are trying to be honest. They are just making honest mistakes. Friends are allowed to make mistakes. The enemy is not allowed to make mistakes because ! his whole existence is a mistake, and we suffer from it. But the women's liberation front and gay liberation front are our friends, they are our potential allies, and we need as many allies as possible.
We should be willing to discuss the insecurities that many people have about homosexuality. When I say "insecurities," I mean the fear that they are some kind of threat to our manhood. I can understand this fear. Because of the long conditioning process which builds insecurity in the American male, homosexuality might produce certain hang-ups in us. I have hang-ups myself about male homosexuality. But on the other hand, I have no hang-up about female homosexuality. And that is a phenomenon in itself. I think it is probably because male homosexuality is a threat to me and female homosexuality is not.
We should be careful about using those terms that might turn our friends off. The terms "faggot" and "punk" should be deleted from our vocabulary, and especially we should not attach names normally designed for homosexuals to men who are enemies of the people, such as Nixon or Mitchell. Homosexuals are not enemies of the people.
We should try to form a working coalition with the gay liberation and women's liberation groups. We must always handle social forces in the most appropriate manner.

whoa!!! this is a hot ass topic right here...this is about way more than the music. 80% of the comments have direct references to these sista's sexuality. my personal opinion or spiritual beliefes on that topic are irrelavent in this context. it's supposed to be about their music. i think most of you would agree from reading these post, their sexuality "has" over shadowed their music in this paticular article/postings. this is just a microview of the hip hop world as a whole. the world is homophobic in large measure, that in its self kind of dooms these sistas from having the success most hetero groups/artist have the opprotunity to achieve. with that being said, i "feel" the ladies shouldn't allow the emphasis to be placed on what they do in the privacy of their bedrooms. ya dig? like the saying goes, "everybody's business aint nobody's business". if you put it out there, and "it's" something that the majority of the record buying public isn't in agreement with on a moral level, you have to accept the negativity and restrictions that come with it or at least deal with it. now, in my opinion the music is average, no better or no worse that some of the other shit that's posted. i wish kin the best, but if they were straight and ass naked i wouldn't buy the music, it just isnt good enough for my hard earned chips, yet.

as a young black heterosexual male i gotta speak up for the educated bunch. i personally have been a fan of KIN since their first LP. From what i know the ladies have always been reserved about the topic of sexuality. they earned their respect as artists in the streets of ny since 99". It just seems that some of you may have not had your ear to the street. alotta of the issue lies with people not being able to stomache the fact that 2 females could be as talented as KIN from writing and producing.. find 2 dudes that are doing that and that are actually hot..and actually working hard to make the world respect their movement. you dont have to love the music but at least recognize the 2 beautiful black positive sistas before you. after all they didnt write the article.. the fact that all hip hop selected them to be on this site speaks volumes.

I don't support homosexuality by any means...and I don't believe that it's a genetic defeciency it's a choice regardless of what any scientist says(they don't believe in
God anyway) but they should have focused on just being artists and not used their sexuality to market their music. But, if that's what they want to do and live as then so be it.
