To the previous comment, I thought this movement was about the message of the cross? I assume you're Christian, one of yours (2five) on here repping the movement yet it seems like the same old who's better routine, name dropping etc. This is how you rep the cross. Showing your hearts. Seems that you wish it was your preference instead of Jesus being pushed here, seems like you want your favorite rappers pushed homie.

First, Homie Understand that I just want people to know that there isin't just a few Christian Rappers... I chose LeCrae because his music is simply better that 2five... I used to be frustrated when I was growing up because people wanted me to listen to Christian rap.. I wanted to as well but all the MC's were wack.... Lecrae has a flow that is unmatched in the Gospel Rap game.. So here's my question to you.. I'm going to introduce you to Hip Hop and you've never listened to it before.. Do I bring you a Jay-Z CD or Vanilla Ice??? And I'm not saying 2five is the worst but Lacrae is easier to listen to.. His flow is on point.. I get bored if you have a week flow.. That's just how it is. I don't care what you're rapping about..

You know just as well as i do that in Rap it's about your delivery.. That's the difference between the best and the worst.. You can say great things but if you can't make them sound good then no one is going to listen...So keep it real...

Now Back to Lacrae I shouted him.. Also because many people don't know about him.. he is a truly Spirit filled Christian and God has blessed him with the gifts to be able to give us a message through his music..

Great article and well said. Of coarse it's not going to name all Holy Hip Hop artists, I've never even heard of Shawn Penn but praise God for em'! I hate the phrase 'Gospel Rap.' Always have, to me, Hip Hop is Hip Hop. Whether west coast, east coast, midwest, no matter the preference Hip Hop is what it is. I feel like classifying someone as a 'Gospel Rap Artist' is really placing a limit on the creativity as to say, 'this is all I'm about.' And in reality, that's why the market (Gospel Rap) has yet to truly flourish. I've SOME artist shatter that mold and come with concepts that were just phenomenal, with ill lyrical and great conceptual. (no pun intented) For those who still feel like talking about religion is corny, they'll never give it a chance. Most people, black, white, purple, or blue, don't won't give a 'Gospel Rapper' half a chance. Because it's like it's just limiting, and you already know everything that they're going to say. Everyone is different, and has their own ideals and beliefs. Whether talking about God, or Jesus, Allah, or even Buddah for that matter, doesn't matter to me. As long as you're real, and express who YOU are and are actually TALENTED, with lyrics, concepts, substance, production quality, and originality with what it is that you do, you, to me, are a rapper. I have a friend, he's a DEVOUT follower of the Christian faith. He has GREAT lyrical talent, but when I first ran into him, he was a bit lost as far as the music went. All he did was preach, but, the thing was, he wasn't really talking about LIFE. Life has so many different elements, the good and the bad, that are left untapped, and he made a concious effort to explore the mind of not only Christians, but ALL people who go through a struggle, or, are doing well for themselves, to better be able to spread HIS message so they could understand where he's coming from. To me, I think that is the most important and difficult thing to be able to do in Hip Hop. Make GREAT music that anyone, and everyone can relate to, because it's as I said, everyone is different. We all go through something at some point in our lives. I just feel like Hip Hop is supposed to be about life. So it should be related as such with no limitations. That's just my opinion on it.

Okay you right about one thing.. And I didn't mean to make it a competition.. I just want people to listen to who would keep them interested.. LeCrae is a MC.. He was a battle rapper... All i'm saying is that people that listen to hip hop always turn a def ear to "gospel Rap" because of the stigma that Gospel rappers are wack... I used to think that myself.. it wasn't until I heard someone with delivery and the rest of the components of good rap that i was able to listen to it..

Don't get me wrong on this whole thing.. I want Jesus on the forefront... Here's my last analogy .. would you go to a church where you can hear the word preach clearly and understandable. or would you go to a church where the preacher speaks in a monotone vioce or he has a bad stuttering problem??

When It comes to God I would want us to put our best foot forward.. Just Like in Gosphel music... Would you want to listen to someone who sings or someone who can Sang... That's all I'm saying.. I just didn't want people to overlook the Crossmovement 116 clique..

Okay Illseed, first off I gotta' say forgive me cause I had no clue that you listened to "gosple" rap. I had you stereo typed. I use to do "gospel" rap but now I just rap because to be truthful with you the streets are turned off by the "sound" of "gospel" rap cause they're trapped in puttin' up a front for others in their circle. I'm just an emcee that reports what I see through the eyes of God and His principles.

I've always put my spirituality in my raps, but never wanted to be a "Gospel Artist" b/c it preaches to the choir and I wanted to infiltrate the mainstream listeners. Gotta big up 2Five for taking the words right out my mouth.. Also, on the honest tip, I still wanted to have fun w/ the music, and let my music grow w/ my personal growth, rather than being limited to only talkn about Jesus. I also wanted to grab the attention of the mainstream (the same mainstream that influenced me) and then drop gems on them, about life, as well as Jesus. So it didn't make sense for me not to reach out to the audience and platform I grew up on, and Christian Rap seemed to be in it's own world. This is real peculiar that I been askn God lately to lead me in the direction He wants me to walk w/ this gift He gave me, then my Comcast got upgraded today, and I was watchn some of the music videos/ rappers on the Word Channel, trying to picture me being a "Gospel Rapper". I just sat down 2 hours ago 2 write a rhyme bout God and settled on the concept and the beat to write to before I went to bed & I go on AHH real quick b4 I lay it down and find this?? Hmm... Lord, u tryna tell me smthn? Anyway, u'll see what I mean bout my rhymes, check out the video of me and my girl Shady Jones spittn our rhymes about God on my myspace, as well as my song Let It Go, the whole 3rd verse is a letter to God. I'm just thankful to be apart of such a move of God and to see the "Great Commission" begin to be fulfilled through the medium of rap as its been purposed to. The world can call it what they like but The Hand of God is being extended to a group of individuals that society has alienated but has also alienated itself and he is showing them that he is not a black God or a white God but a Spirit and is desiring those that will worship him in Spirit and in Truth (aka keepin it real).

Those of us that have been shown a glimpse and have obtained an understanding of what the Lord is doing with this, need to remember to be patient with the others that haven’t and remain faithful in "Your Call" whether it be to preach to the choirs(which some need as well) or to speak to the streets.

K-Nine is the man, but I have a couple things that concern me about the holy hip hop culture. I dont see anything wrong with being competitive being hip hop is a competitive music genre it came up off everyone trying to be the best at what they do. People arguing in school, barbershops etc. on whose the hottest cat out. So why get mad because one man says he thinks so and so is better than jon doe? Thats jus his opinion, and hes jus biggin up his fav artist. As long as they all reppin christ thats all that matters, but I would never down an artist basically calling them wack when they are repping the king. Jus 2 rep jesus and stand up for him would make me respect any of em. I like what I hear from 2 five I think he's hot and got some quality in his material. I can admit like one cat said back in the day the christian rap had Low quality but its stepped way up in 2008! But I have been to alot of holy hip hop shows and watched the artist tear down the others and I dont get it. I would hate 2 watch the holy culture fall off becuz of Vanity!

Let me talk to the cats doing the Holy Hip Hop/Christian Rap/Gospel Rap or whatever you want to call it. All this promo for different artists is not a good look to cats who haven't heard us before. We shouldn't be creating a perspective of competition in the eyes of cats who have never heard this style of Hip Hop. Who we should be biggin' up is the Lord. Promo Him and let the people decide what artists they are feelin.

To the cats who have never heard Holy Hip Hop/Christian Rap/Gospel Rap I encourage you to check it out. With the state of Hip Hop today all you are getting in the mainstream are cookie cutter artists that labels create with their preset formula. Most cats have gotten to the point where all that gun talk, street crime and sexin' is old. What I am seeing cats wanting is change. People want substance!! I am seeing cats starting to know they need something within that goes beyond the physical. Having said all that I just ask that you be open minded and check out some artists on the Christian side of the spectrum. I'm not going to name any artists here, but hit me up on myspace and I'll give you some sites where you can listen and judge for yourselves.

Question Links. Is it not ok to shout out your favorite rapper(s)? Is it not ok to big them up and build some type of buzz for them or anticipation to hear what it is they have to say? "How shall the people hear without a preacher?"

This is the issue that I am combating and I believe we put ourselves in a box when we make a seperate title or category for what it is we do as ministers of the Gospel that just so happen to rap. Why it cant just be rap or hip-hop. You and I both know that 85% of the people that hear that you are a quote unquote Gospel Rapper/Holy Hip Hopper already shutting you down out tha gate before you even open up your mouth cuz of "the stigma". At that point you as an MC are un affective then cuz their respect, mind or heart hasnt been won.

That defeats the whole purpose of a hip-hop ministry as far as out reach is concerned. If the guy or gal of the Most High is official, then they dont have to wear naya title on they sleeve to represent the truth and to be catalysts to draw people to God through faith in Christ cuz you gonna know them by they fruit.

You also pointed out the issue of not naming any artist but you invite the people off of this site, onto another site to present to them????? artists????

Come on. Thats what the culture is searching for is the realness only found in Christ. If a dude is tight he tight and If he need more work he need to go back to the drawing board till he get it right! There are other elements that need to be taken into consideration to effectively translate/convey the Gospel if you using the medium of rap. If you dont want to accept that fact then thats cool but then you might as well hang ya mike up turn the music off and just pick up a Bible and str8 witness without the rap period.

Paul even gave the command follow me as I follow Christ. Please see my above comment regarding the differnt types/calls of rappers in ministry for more clarification. With all the negativity associated with hip-hop & the personal drama in the lives of our hip-hop superstars...they BETTER believe in GOD!

No rapper should believe that their success is because of THEM, yes...you worked hard to get where you at but GOD opened the doors for you in the first place so EVERY NOW & THEN you should pay homage & give it up to the most high.

Now whether or not a WHOLE album of this type of music will sell very well is a different story.

You missed the whole point of what I was trying to get across. Let me make it crystal clear.

Personally I don't think Christian artists should come on here and push themselves or anyone else for that matter at this stage of the game on Allhiphop. Right now its not a good look. Here's why?

We look like everyone other person on allhiphop pushing a record. We basically come across as opportunists!!! We get one article and then its like a feeding frenzy....this artist is hott, check my site out, check this out. We looking like car salesmen right now. You don't think some cats ain't thinkin that?

As far as me telling cats to hit me up on my myspace here is the reason. I am not going to come across as a salesman on the site and out of respect for Allhiphop I am not going to promo anything. I am inviting cats to hit me up at my myspace where I will can give them a couple of sites that sell Christian hip hop and allow them to check out tracks online. Sites not artists. I would give them these SITES in private so that I don't come across partial to any of the multiple Christian Hip Hop sites. I am not going to tell anyone who is hot and whatnot; the people can judge for themselves.

I'm lovin' this cause this is gonna' get people talkin' about the real problem if they don't see it already. And trust me I'm not the one to judge others including myself but I come repeating what people fail to study and that's the Holy Bible. Read up. Ya' boy John the Baptist got offed because he so called "judged" and the rest of the disciple drank from that same cup cause the message cut to the heart of those who are guilty. And with that you will either defend yourself and reject the truth to feel comfortable in religion or you will accept the truth revealed and say "I repent [meaning turn away immediately] and thank you for helping me see more of myself to get out the way". And that goes for me too. I embrace being told cuase it's for my own good. Stop bein' so negative and look at the good that comes from bein' fronted on.

But :)... I can honestly say that "Holy Hip-Hop" and any other form of positive hip-hop [that supports God's principles and teachings] is great! It's better than all the other music that is out there. The problem is just that naturally we like to hear and deal wit' garbage. It's our nature. It's easy to be negative, not to think, destroy than create, make money off of foolishness so that's what we are fed through the media. It's sad and I pray that it will change but we already know that won't happen unless God REALLY shows up and make miracle happen. But I shy from that cause of II Timothy chapter 3. In a nutshell it just says things will get worse. Also read Pslams 52 [refers to a lot of rappers today].

Yeah, I use to hear people say they don't think the music is that great when it comes to positive rap but the truth is this... the instrumental part of the songs are no different from what's on the radio. I make beats for positive artist and I get positive from street dudes all the time like I'm the hotest they heard in a while. So what could it be? It's the lyrical content of the song that makes it unpopular. That's the truth. Positivity doesn't thrive as well in this world as negativity. From film to music it's all the same. What sells the most? Sexual immorality, abuse of drugs and violence.

a lot of these christian rappers used to be secular artists. like flame (myspace.com/flame314) heis on cross movement's label too. i battled with still listening to secular/mainstream rap once i got saved a few years back. it was hard, but then mainstream rap just started to get wack to me. i still listen to a couple of people but i stay listening to christian rapper flame and his album he got a new album called our world redeemed every joint on there is hott he dont be preaching all the time he just got them lyrics that will make you think his flow is tight too

I thought that this article was weak on research concerning Christians in Hip Hop (with the exception of 2Five) but I guess their focus was those with a mainstream history. At least mention Cross Movement though. No probs as I see the forum stepping up. So I'll drop my 2pence worth.
