I very much doubt they can match the greatness of Devils Night, which in my opinion is a great album. Some people interprete good music differently.

Hip hop dosen't interest me much these days, apart from the occasional track. I tend the dig up some older joints because i've grown out of the new stuff.

I will look out for this new album for old times sake. The album will guarantee some hot beats, and some hot ryhmes. They may not be the best of all time, but at least they're still around, and they don't have massive egos.

re: D12: For Doz That Slept

D12 NEVER GET ANY CREDIT

I LUV DEVIL'S NIGHT & D12 WORLD

CAN'T WAIT 4 THE MIXTAPE ND NEW ALBUM

re: D12: For Doz That Slept

bizzare letz em down big time! fat b$stard needs to lose weight!

http://fitnessfreakazoid.com

re: D12: For Doz That Slept

man d-12 is like sum of the last remaining rappers.. now all hip hop is is ringtone rappers, and guys who like lollipops... glad D-twizzy is back to put the grit and grime and thanks to bizzare the creepyness back in the game... keep doin y thing..

r.i.p. bugz

r.i.p big proof

D12 is back « Valentin Varadi

PingBack from http://pixelinspire.wordpress.com/2008/05/22/d12-is-back/

re: D12: For Doz That Slept

D12 was never great or anything... but they had some banging tracks on that Devil's Night joint. Proof was the illest next to Eminem though.

re: D12: For Doz That Slept

@ richie sick

Em actually didn't live IN detroit for quite some time of his life. Credibility just means more money for his camp, they're thinking green.

But "street" cred and all that bullshit shouldn't even matter, especially when you've got a dope Mc like em shitting on your favourite rapper.

re: D12: For Doz That Slept

@HHH thats me said

i hear ya. well, it ain't no mystery to me. we all know white people think black people are cooler anyway. if i was a white kid in his position, i'd wanna hang with the nigs too if i could get a pass! ha ha! fuck hangin with the white folks.

re: D12: For Doz That Slept

It's not about black people being "cooler", it's about urban music in general being seen as "black" music. And urban music is often characterized by the way black people live in the hoods of america. For a rapper like Eminem, a white rapper who doesn't fit the urban music template to BE credible, he needs black people that say the shit he spits is true. And they do that for THE MONEY.

re: D12: For Doz That Slept

@HHH thats me said

street credibility has nothing to do with art. that's sociology. when it comes down to it, all you're saying is we shouldn't like eminem because he isn't a nig from the hood, and he's trying to do "urban" music.

art doesn't have anything to do with truth, and even less with credibility. it's a representation of a reflection of reality. don't confuse it with reality. so the shit em spits is HIS artistic vision. he don't need anybody to verify it, whether they do it for the money or not.

if you don't want to label him as "urban" music, that's fine. but i'm concerned with the aesthetics of hip-hop, and eminem does fit within that. the only thing em needs to do to be credible to me is be true to his art.

re: D12: For Doz That Slept

@ richie sick...

Well said.

re: D12: For Doz That Slept

@ richie sick

Um, reflection of reality IS truth, through a particular individual's eyes. Funny how he changed his style up back in 97'...

But anywho, I was thinking on how Cage used to represent himself via the "urban" way. But after his Hell's Winter Album dropped, dude finally started to truly express himself, through his change in the way he dressed and the content of his music. But you probably only know Cage from that beef that happened way back in the day.

And if you want to use the terminology concerning your benevolent description on how Eminem is "in his own league", you should really reconsider that. There's a lot of "alternative" hip hop out there.

Finally, R.I.P. to Proof (gotta cop that Jerry Garcia album), and here's to hoping that it will be a good year for BOTH Def Jux and Shady Records.
re: D12: For Doz That Slept

@Mr. Green Wings said

truth through a particular individual's eyes is another word for subjectivity. subjective truth is different from objective truth. art is subjective truth. it's not THE truth.

i don't know who cage is.

i never said em was in his own league, so what's to reconsider? in fact, i categorized him within the boundaries of hip-hop. if you wanna call him "alternative" hip-hop, that's fine. is punk not still rock music? is west coast jazz not still jazz? you're just talking sub-genres.

re: D12: For Doz That Slept

@ richie sick

NO, what Im saying is the reason dudes claim Eminem was a person back in the day that he clearly wasn't, is because that's the way for Em to get credibility, and everyone knows that cred = money.

And I wasn't even discussing how we should label Em, Im saying how urban music forces a white rapper to invent a false history because otherwise no one would give 2 shits about him. People wouldn't give him 2 seconds of their time.

And in that, a rappers character preceeds his artistic competense. After getting shitted on, he then proceeded to make morbid, macabre material...which was highly acclaimed from the Slim Shady EP to the Marshall Mathers EP; as of lately he's been really reflective in his content. He definitely gave his opinion on how he saw reality.

But the "street cred" for white rappers has definitely been one to propel into high-status. When I say "alternative hip-hop" there really wasn't a label: it simply refers to the style which doesn't parallel the current popular style.
