D12 are a group i will always appreciate, and i will defo look out for this album. I very much doubt they can match the greatness of Devils Night, which in my opinion is a great album. Some people interprete good music differently.

Hip hop dosen't interest me much these days, apart from the occasional track. I tend the dig up some older joints because i've grown out of the new stuff.

I will look out for this new album for old times sake. The album will guarantee some hot beats, and some hot ryhmes. They may not be the best of all time, but at least they're still around, and they don't have massive egos.

Em actually didn't live IN detroit for quite some time of his life. He lived in the warren suburb of detroit, had alot of white friends and basically was around alot of white people. It's not like just cause Proof was his closest dude (outside of Ronnie) and he joined a group like D12 which was all black it justifies him kind of alienating himself from white people when becoming major.

Do you know what label he was on before Aftermath? When he was still underground he worked with almost only white people, in particular on his solo projects. His Soul Intent days was on some beastie boys shit, all white boys:

so his life was not really like it's played out in 8 Mile for instance. By the way people need to stop believing half that shit from the 8 mile movie and how his camp say his life was back in the day. 8 mile is a hollywood movie and of course people need to make his life out to be as interesting and "harsh" as possible, to give him credibility. Credibility just means more money for his camp, they're thinking green.

But "street" cred and all that bullshit shouldn't even matter, especially when you've got a dope Mc like em shitting on your favourite rapper.

It's not about black people being "cooler", it's about urban music in general being seen as "black" music. And urban music is often characterized by the way black people live in the hoods of america. For a rapper like Eminem, a white rapper who doesn't fit the urban music template to BE credible, he needs black people that say the shit he spits is true. And they do that for THE MONEY.

street credibility has nothing to do with art. that's sociology. when it comes down to it, all you're saying is we shouldn't like eminem because he isn't a nig from the hood, and he's trying to do "urban" music.

art doesn't have anything to do with truth, and even less with credibility. it's a representation of a reflection of reality. don't confuse it with reality. so the shit em spits is HIS artistic vision. he don't need anybody to verify it, whether they do it for the money or not.

if you don't want to label him as "urban" music, that's fine. but i'm concerned with the aesthetics of hip-hop, and eminem does fit within that. the only thing em needs to do to be credible to me is be true to his art.

But anywho, I was thinking on how Cage used to represent himself via the "urban" way. But after his Hell's Winter Album dropped, dude finally started to truly express himself, through his change in the way he dressed and the content of his music. But you probably only know Cage from that beef that happened way back in the day.

And if you want to use the terminology concerning your benevolent description on how Eminem is "in his own league", you should really reconsider that. There's a lot of "alternative" hip hop out there.

And I wasn't even discussing how we should label Em, Im saying how urban music forces a white rapper to invent a false history because otherwise no one would give 2 shits about him. If Em would be from the 'burbs, STILL the same ill em that rips every track he's on but from the suburbs, he would'nt be bumped at all. People wouldn't give him 2 seconds of their time.

So what you're telling me is that an individual can react in an unorthodox way to current living conditions and/or life events, hence coming to your conclusion of "subjective truth".

Breaking from the conformist mold, expressing one's true self...even though the "objective truth" may be one that doesn't favor him in terms of career progression...sounds about right.

Eminem started out as a battle emcee in his early years, then added some positivity back on the Infinite Album. After getting shitted on, he then proceeded to make morbid, macabre material...which was highly acclaimed from the Slim Shady EP to the Marshall Mathers EP; as of lately he's been really reflective in his content. He definitely gave his opinion on how he saw reality.

But the "street cred" for white rappers has definitely been one to propel into high-status. When I say "alternative hip-hop" there really wasn't a label: it simply refers to the style which doesn't parallel the current popular style. So with that being said, I'm done talking about this subject.
