Movie Review: The Dark Knight
Published Friday, July 18, 2008 12:00 PM
By Casey Gane-McCalla, courtesy of TheUrbanDaily.com

If you’re gonna see The Dark Knight here’s some advice: Don’t bring the kids. This ain’t no cartoon. I don’t how in the hell it got a PG-13 rating. The sh*t gave me nightmares, and I ain’t no kid.

Secondly, see it on the IMAX. The aerial scenes and fight scenes are crazy. While the story line is a little convoluted, the action and characters make you forget about it.

Director Christopher Nolan’s sequel to Batman Begins is the opposite of Joel Schumaker’s Batman and Robin, which was a like a Broadway musical without the music. The movie is also nothing like its predecessor, which spent way too much time developing Batman and not enough time showcasing him.

The Dark Knight is a grimly realistic modern portrait of Gotham’s great hero. The movie deals with issues like police corruption, money laundering, terrorism and vigilante morality. Nolan, who wrote and directed Memento, offers a way more complex take on good and evil than any previous superhero movie.

Much has been made about Heath Ledger’s final performance as The Joker. I’ve heard things like he’s better than Hannibal Lecter or Jack Nicholson's version of the same character. Neither of these are true...

I won't go as far as to say it's on par with Hannibal Lecter performance, but I will say Heath and Jack are on level ground.  Heath played the hell out of that character...just wish he coulda seen the final work with a crowd.  People loved the movie.

It could have been like 20 minutes shorter, but other than that, it was incredible...They did the dayum thing:0)

Oh...if it were Rated R, I would have REALLY liked it.  I mean, I could have seen MORE of how incredibly cold the joker was...man...

@SDS Overfiend

His performance is Oscar worthy.  I don't see anybody beating him for best actor.  I would be still saying this if Ledger was alive, too.  I tell you another guy in the film that needs at least an Oscar nomination.  Aaron Eckhart who plays Harvey Dent/Two Face.  If it wasn't for Ledger's performance, people would be talking about Eckhart's performance, heavily.

The true test of an actor, is if you can see the actor through the character...you couldn't see Heath at all in the Joker!  You could still see Jack Nicholson, so Heath > Jack.  It's almost like they found the actual Joker villain and had him play himself in the movie!  Makes me even more mad that Heath passed away...the possibilities in the sequels, wow!  He could have gotten his own spinoff movie that focused on the Joker!

Heath performance was most def Oscar worthy, and Eckhart should get a nomination as well. My only problems was the ending, it was anti-climatic,wasn't feeling Batman's voice, and they wasted Two Face character sorta like Spiderman 3 with Venom. Two Face should've been saved for the next sequel. If think about it Joker Won.

These new Batman movies shits on the last 3 Batman movies thou, Keaton is a better Batman thou.

I'll go ahead and weigh in on this as well.  This has to be the best out of the Bat Man series.  It was long, intriguing and very entertaining and I loved every moment of it, except for one part, and that's where a star brother gettin' killed off first early in the beginning (lol).  I dare to say that Heath Ledger beat out Jack Nicholson for best Joker.  His performance of this deranged psychopath was that good.  And Christian Bale does justice again as The Dark Knight.  Bat Man is D.C. comics perhaps only ace to upstage Marvel's plethora of heroes.  It has already beat out Marvel's most successful Spider Man 3 in one weekend, so it has broken a record and may be on pace to beat all of 'em (comic book hero adaptations).  It did $155.34 million over the weekend, now that's the supreme drawing power of the Knight. (lol)
