Going from drug kingpin to film producer is not the mid-life epiphany that it seems to be when you meld the two worlds. Anthony "Tone" Gonzalez' experience running the Bronx streets in the ‘80s serves as prime fodder for his films.

re: Anthony "Tone" Gonzalez: Gangster Grill

Thats great that he changed his life style

Listen to MadMan's Mixtape Here Free
http://spatemag.podomatic.com/

SPATE MAGAZINE
IN THE BUILDING
http://www.spatemag.com
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/spatemagazine
http://www.youtube.com/spatetv

re: Anthony "Tone" Gonzalez: Gangster Grill

Sounds like he's doing his thang..

myspace.com/hustlegrindgetmoney

re: Anthony "Tone" Gonzalez: Gangster Grill

We like Drug Dealers

re: Anthony "Tone" Gonzalez: Gangster Grill

I'm all for second chances or what not. But it seems we are glorifying these drug dealers turned good a lil too much. It seems like we are almost telling people, sell drugs, don't get caught, and aslong as you turn ur life around before you die, its aaaaallllllllllllll good.

re: Anthony "Tone" Gonzalez: Gangster Grill

@ Ceelos

I don't see it that way. I think by telling the stories you see that eventually MOST of them do get caught (or worse). For years the mob was "glorifed" (if you want to call it that) through movies like Scarface, Goodfellas, Casino, etc. but people recognized the stories as an important part of history. I think by telling the stories of Frank Lucas, Nicky Barnes, etc. you really get to see how the economies in certain areas flourished or failed because of the drug trade.
This documentary is cool because it goes pretty in depth about how important Harlem was on a global scale with regard to the heroin trade. If you saw Cocaine Cowboys, you should be able to appreciate Superfly IMO.

re: Anthony "Tone" Gonzalez: Gangster Grill

the problem is that people don't see these dudes as the washed up has beens they really are but they look at them like yo i won't make the mistakes this old ass dude did

re: Anthony "Tone" Gonzalez: Gangster Grill

Im straight on the gangsta bio films...do something else, you stopped selling drugs...great, but you still profiting from it. Gangster and the other documentaries and movies on the trade... but growing up in 5th Ward I saw first hand how drugs flourished and simultaneously ruined the lives of not only the users and their families but also of the drug dealers... so for me watching like many of you is purely entertainment but the real problem (much like with hip hop) is that we are not the problem, it's those who are so easily influenced by fast money, fast cars and girls...our kids, the next generation!

Go and visit your local middle or high school and you will see first hand the impact these messages and images are having on our kids... 12 yr. old girls wanna be the next Superhead and the 13 yr. old boys wanna cake up as D-Boys who SAY they ain't scared to go to jail...

Anyway, I will cop this, like I said for me it's entertainment, not necessarily edu-tainment....

re: Anthony "Tone" Gonzalez: Gangster Grill

oh... @ j johnson - that's real talk too...
there are also many contemporary examples of the kinfolk caking up without the dope game ...

a black teenage millionaire - www.DrFarrahGray.com
the first CEO of a publicly traded company - www.Ephren.com

Now that's gangsta IMO

re: Anthony "Tone" Gonzalez: Gangster Grill

Why don`t somebody do a story on me. He didn't blame the man or his environment for his choices. I am glad he turned his life around. That being said, I am sure his drug pushing killed thousands of people. We all make mistakes, but being responsible for the deaths of thousands of people is some deep shit.
