Kanye is not a liar. You say his fans will just go back and check College Dropout and see that he doesn't use the vocoder. Well he did. I love to toke when I can and even I have a better memory than that. He used the vocoder/autotune on "Work Out Plan" on College Dropout. It was all over the last two minutes of the song, you can't miss it. AND it was hot.

And for those wondering about what would happen if 50 Cent did a song like this, he pretty much already has. He sings on about half of the songs that he comes out with now. At least Kanye is  original. Nearly every song on Curtis had 50 Cent talking about how he would kill someone and how he "Still Will Kill." If we really paid attention to artists and their capabilities & desires, then something like this wouldn't be such a "dramatic" shock from status quo....here are a few reasons why this doesn't suprise me coming from Kanye....

1. He has ALWAYS had an addiction with singing (listen to "Improvise" on one of his EARLY mixtapes)

2. He loves the limelight (obviously) and he is all about whats hot and different, and since niggas clowned T-Pain until that "Stripper" song came out...then niggas got ass from that song and they stopped talkin shit about him lol.  THEN Lil Wayne came out wit "Lollipop" and it was hot, so he tried it, liked it, and kept it.

3. He's been touring HEAVY in Europe, and European music (hip hop too) is BIG on the whole "futuristic" and synthesizer sounds.  (i.e. sampling Daft Punk for "Stronger") So all that exposure probably influenced what he wanted to do....

4.....His mom died when he was touring in Europe.  So to anyone who has lost a mother, you know what he is going through, except he is a celebrity....but Kanye was EXCEPTIONALLY close to his mom, and to have her suddenly taken away NEEDLESSLY....he has gone crazy.  Period. And also he broke up wit his fiancee (I don't know if they are back together anymore, but whatever)

5. He said he will become the #1 artist IN THE WORLD.  And if he really means that, he will HAVE to switch up his style to appeal to a much broader audience.


So keeping all that in mind...it makes PERFECT sense that Kanye is doing his album like this.  He's a different artist, so we should expect different shit from him.  I am just glad that Kanye turned back to music to help him thru his suffering instead of all of the other things he could have done.....But I would honestly prefer to have Kanye put out shit like this than listen to "Marco Polo".
