I don't get that vibe from the flow...

In the age old battle between good and evil; Nas and Jay;  I've always sided with Nas, but you know....  As much as Nas' lyrics trump Jay's, there's something to be said about the way that Jay moves.

He's the best aging rapper ever.  He's moving his mode more over to some Soprano's (I-take-care-of-my-little-second-generation-mamis-like-Rihanna) style.  Some elder statesman of the G-game, rather than some goon or shooter.

(i.e. he's talked to more jewish people this week than he's spoken to people who know who Ed Lover or The Tunnel is/was).



Jay knows that he's only boosting someone's name when he mentions it...  So he only mentions people that he WANTS to get right and get cash.  (DAME and JAZ).  Jay doesn't feel like he owes either one more than he's already given them ("...Jaz coulda signed the contract..."), but he's throwin a couple more you tube views their way.

It's almost compassionate, on a certain level.



I don't know.  I really don't care for Jay, but he really does make savvy and heartful moves on the level of (dare i say) Mike Jack.

Jay is just a legend.. I dont know why more niggas dont do what Jay does. Whenever he does something its huge and its not just because he is Jay-Z its how you do it. Jay doesnt do a bunch of talking to the press about certain things, so when he addresses something doing an acapella type freestyle where everybody he hearing every word he spits it is always crazy. I respect dude and I have no idea why everybody was so willing to follow Hov's formula with everything but they didnt follow the number 1 rule, stay true to yourself. Dont sell yourself short with gimmicks, makes movements and you will always be timeless.

The thing that kills me about all these people calling greats like HOV old is.... OK yea he pushing 40... OK yea he's rich.....is that any reason for him to stop making music. For the record American Gangster was damn near a classic, and yes better than Carter 3, or anything else for that matter. There are a lot of artist who makes great songs Lupe for instance but it's not easy to make a classic Jay himself hasn't done it. Only BIG has, and unfortunately he only made 2 so you can look at that any way you want. Damn, what did Jay do so wrong for people to get their panties in a bunch. To co-sign what someone else said earlier, people dislike winners, especially when they are on top for so long. But The only reason why Jay is on top is for two reasons, one is that he's never fallen off, and two, no one has knocked him off the pedestal, as far as rap goes. There are guys who spit harder than Jay, like Jadakiss, for instance. Or guys who battle better, Canibus, or you have better storytellers, like Slick Rick, or who have more compelling and interesting stories, like Tupac, or 50. But NO ONE in the history of the rap game has been more CONSISTENT than Jay. Name one, don't worry, I'll wait.  Exactly my point, there have been guys who "could" have done it but haven't, for a multitude of reasons, either untimely death, (B.I.G., Pac, etc.) or drugs, (DMX, Eminem) or just isn't hot enough. (Wayne, Buddens, Fab, Game, 50)  There are some promising dudes out there (not too many) but there are a few. And for Jay being one of the older dudes in the game, look at where his competition is....Nas is the only one from that era who still making some noise, and that's in part, due to Jay calling him out on the Blueprint.  Nas is an ill MC but people outside of his fan base started to forget about him. Where is everyone else? The only two artists bigger than Jay died, unfortunately. But other than that, no one else remained relevant longer than a few years.

But as has been stated before, hip-hop is th eonly genre of music where the older srtists who paved a way for others to prosper get treated with disrespect. No one in Country music tells Garth Brooks to sit down and call it quits, no one tells Madonna to stop touring. No one screamed for Michael Jackson not to begin his tour. I know hip-hop is about being edgy and fresh and youthful, but keep in mind, we are the youngest genre of music out there. So if Big Daddy Kane, or KRS-One still want to make music, they should be saluted, not ridiculed. Jay-Z has gotten to a level where he is the best rapper ever. You can argue, and say what about BIG, or what about Pac, but when it's all said and done, Jay will have more music than even Pac, if he doesn't already and more relevant music than Wayne. Obviously I am a Jay fan but I am also a realistic man who is capable of looking at both sides of the coin. Jay isn't perfect in or out of the booth, but his body of music is better than any other person who considers themselves a rapper. And one would be hard pressed to convince me otherwise, and I'm up on my rap music, not just the East Coast either. So if one wants to debate, I'm ready. In the words of Jay, "youngn's ice grillin' me, oh, you not feelin me fine, it cost you nothin, pay me no mind."

ok the crazy thing about most fans on here is that they expect stuff out of people because of there position. Honestly, rappers no matter how famous they are their job is to entertain and we appreciate the fact that jay always does that. but are you telling me if yall were 40 years old and a barber you would retire if you were the most popular barber in your hood, HELL NAW!!!! Anyway all the important rappers right now are about 29 and up, excluding wayne and the game anybody else selling real units is middle age people. The young rappers are coming in now but have of them cant hold the jock strap of jay. im 21 and i am hip hop studier but i appreciate passion for music and jay has that passion simple as that. Who cares how old he is, and as a rapper you supposed to be confident shit borderline cocky is a good trait. I dont wanna hear no rapper saying yea im the second best rapper in the world but im still hot. fuck that i want real nigga in my speakers.

And jay has memorable albums that is more important than classic. Most rappers only have one album so for yall to argue what is classic is compliment to jay. American Gangster, Blueprint, Reasonable Doubt, and  LTSC vol 1 still go hard to..lol

And wayne best album was carter 2 lyrically, c3 was only sub par at best, he said nothing special he just got more charisma..

When you a lyricist you should always cut the beat off, gives it much more power, trust me I perform spokenword every week and the power is so much more important than when the beat is on.
