NEW BRUNSWICK — A state Appeals Court extended the coverage area of drug-free zones a bit Monday when it ruled that a museum that does not keep normal hours falls under the definition of a public building.

Drug dealers caught selling within 500 feet of a public building — as well as public housing and parks — see the severity of charges rise.

The same holds for those caught selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.

The case in question concerned the New Brunswick Fire Museum, a museum on the corner of Remsen Avenue and Suydam Street open only upon appointment.

Jessie D. Chambers, 30, was arrested and charged with cocaine possession and distribution near the museum on Aug. 8, 2003.

City police officer Michael Yurkovic, detective Michael Sutton and Lt. Paul Schuster were patrolling the Remsen Avenue area of the city in an unmarked minivan shortly after midnight when they saw Chambers sell drugs to another man.

Because he was within 500 feet of the fire museum, Chambers was charged with a second-degree offense and other charges.

He was convicted in November 2004 and sentenced to six years in prison. He is eligible for parole in about a month.

Drug-free zones disproportionately fall in urban areas, Rosenthal said, making drug dealers there pay a higher penalty than suburban or rural drug dealers.

The New Jersey Commission to Review Criminal Sentencing released a report in 2005 calling for an overhaul of the laws concerning drug-free zones, regarding them unfair and ineffective.

The commission recently noted that blacks and Hispanics account for 96 percent of people convicted and incarcerated for a drug-free zone offense in New Jersey.

Hell good beats make Jeezy and Rick Ross platinum selling artists...If the beat is the only thing saving an artist they aren't that good in the first place in my opinion..He said a few things in them bars but it wasn't like he was spitting heat..If an artist is going to take the time to write and remember some bars then they should be on point..I heard his cd was pretty good though..I guess I'll have to hear more from him..Put it like this, I think if Joe Budden would've got the same beats for his album that Free had on his it probably would've been a classic..I think Free need to expand his topics and come with some real heart felt music..That's his best bet to get people to forget about his voice..But i'm about to check for this song..

i feel u dog and i inderstand that u do need radio songs 2 blow up..i jus wish he would have been a lil more balance with the songs...it was like 80% radio song and 20% street/lyrical songs..but hey WHO IS BALANCE IN DA GAME WITH THERE SONG/CONTENT?????

maybe im bias cuz i just think it was corny how cassidy had the typical puchlines but he that ws the first time i heard some shit like that
free wasnt ready for that
the battle was technically and stupidly mismatched
i kno for a fact cassidy doesnt have more depth in his rhymes then freeway
