Man i never comment on songs that much, but this shit is the best song I've heard in a minute. His album is going to be one of his best. Every since his resurrection from the battle with Jay, it just seems like he knows his future. Like he's not confused on his craft. Because before the battle, Nas was lost. He didn't know his place. Naz is not the same rapper he was back then, not feeling him, too be honest never really liked his songs. i do understand where you are comin from homie I am in the business game and i was working for a company and decided to start my own business because why make them rich..

He is not anywhere near Jay or 50 but all i am saying is that money makes the world go round , but it is also the root of all evil just the same... We need people like Nas and music like this to keep stuff in balance... The music game is a business and the fact that he has enough courage to come out with an album like this and bring this before the whites in suits shows his courage.... At the award show when he was wearing a Nigger shirt people were saying how stupid he was and that was....

All I am saying is he is trying to make a change and bring things to light that need to be brought to light and talked about.... At the end of the day it is all about the dollar but rap music was saying something before money got involved check the history P.E., Slick Rick, X-Clan, Geto Boys, Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, NWA all these groups talked about real stuff it just so happen to be that they got paid for it a little but they would have still made the music anyway...

We need music that uplifts from time to time and like someone else said when we looked back at Marvin Gayes whats going on and NWA albums they are thought of as greatest of there era and Nas will be appreciated more when he is gone and we look back..

I am a business owner and I am paving the way but all I am saying is we needs Nas and Dead Pres and Talib and those artists as much as we need 50& Jay

Everyone has their opinion and with that, discussion is interesting.

I am failing to understand your motivation though, for going on about Nas not having as much as Jay-Z or 50 Cent or the business matrix we are all in.

Nas decided to do something for his own purposes. Of course, part of that is financial reasons, but apparently, money may not be his top priority, as he's decided to couple this message so deeply in this current cd.

That's his personal decision to make. We don't know his financial situation. He may very well be far removed from days scared his bills will be late or his electricity will be cut off.

It reminds me of one of those movie scenes where a disaster happens, in this case, Hip Hop current route and people yell out, "Will no one fight for us"? You sound like that suit that would be in the back talking about, "I wouldn't be a hero, that guy is stupid", lol.

It kills me when I hear folks coming back to money like it's God on this planet. The fact of the matter is, that grown man decided his intent was to put out this type of music at this point in his career, not worry about the next way to financially overtake Jay-Z and 50.

That sounds like a damn little girl plotting in her room.

Also, that commercial matrix you talked about; it's based on the never ending pursuit of the dollar being dangled in front of you to make you keep going. Forgive Nas or moving for his own purpose as opposed to the carrot you treasure so much being dangled.

Last thing; to the crab mentality out there, how many of you are going to buy the cd and how many download?.... Yeah, "WE OUT"

Yall both are on point with your views. Me and my homie use to have that same discussion. We live in a capitalist society, so of course, money is the root of all power and evil. I commend the Jay's, 50's and Russells for taking it to the next business level and illustrating the options for those who don't know or understand. I also commend the Nas's and Dave Chapelle's who put money and fame secondary to doing what they feel is right for our people as a whole. IMO, we should try to mimic the best attributes from both groups and use those to rebuild our communities and educate our people to the American game...cause that's really all it is...real life Monopoly.

Notwithstanding, I believe there are times where one may forgo the immediate, personal, financial return for the long-term investment in ones own people. And that was really the basis of my first argument.

I understand it's a business and all, but have you been listening to this music lately? Looked at the media as a whole lately? I'm asking because for the most part, I've been forced away from it by the offensive shit going on. From the songs on radio being a "Bust It Baby", "Lollipop" (which I like), "Pop Bottles" and so on, constantly rotating... It gets to a point where, when the moons align and there's a song like this from Nas, some songs from the Roots, Joell Ortiz (if ever), the potential money return is an understandable investment in not only having something worth listening to, but putting ones own culture (hip hop, for example) back in a respectable bracket.

Basically, if you were a millionaire already (assuming he is), could you entertain the notion of forgoing yet another commercial hit for the impact of a positive message to your culture and possibly making a difference? Because if not for these instances, we're left with two choices, 1. Little girls listening to shit like, "I juss gave her a nick name, it's wet-wet/
Cause when we finished she mess up all the bedsets" and then we act like we don't know what the hell happened to us or 2. Just abandon the damn genre and go to the catalog from the oldheads where they were actually saying something.

You might as well cut all the business corporation talk. The "business" ain't working no more. Neither is the old formula for putting artist out. That's why the major labels are scared. Because they are sinking ships, and their $5 fast food formula ain't working no more. Everything is digital now. They don't know how the adjust. Radio play? That means absolutely nothing now days. There's plenty of entertainers (because the folks on the radio that I hear are not MCs or even rappers) get spins 20 million times a day. Hit single and all, yet they do not sell 1 album. You got to ask yourself why is that? The answer is because the consumers are tired of that micowave music.

Back to Nas, the song sounds fine to me. I appreciate the substance. For everybody cimplaining about he doesn't sound the same, his voice, blah blah blah. The man is not 18 anymore, he's 35. Stop looking for a re-creation of Illmatic. Just appreciate what he's trying to do now.

Unless we can own more of the media share then expect more of the same. Until then, I say go indie if you feel you are a prophet and have that much clout. it's ok.. I think if this was a title track, he should've come wayyyyy harder than that.. im begining to think AZ or ghotst writiers was helping him write back in the day.. He dosent have that same potientcy that he once had. Overall, as usual, fair lyrics- horrible hook- fair beat = nas. Im rootin for NAS, but he needs to go back to trackmasters for guidence on how to construct a song from begining to end. During his songs he has a couple of hot lines, but the whole song never commands your attention the whole time.

We should take notes from Ice Cube and cut out the middle men (major labels) and distribute the music ourselves. please try to understand that hip-hop originally was never about topping the charts. It was about getting your views across to the people and having fun. NOT about record sales and who is the best rapper. If Nas' previous 2 albums and blatantly stating it in interviews hasnt proven that he doesn't care about sales, then nothing will. Why does he need to start his own label? So he can distribute an album with the title he originally chose? That's rediculous. People remember album titles simply to recall specific tracks on the album. It's about the content. Music for the thinking man. I see no need for him to conform his style into what many of these artists consider hip-hop today.

And to those who are still criticizing over the album title, please do your research before saying he's just backing down due to pressure.
