Real speak from Banner.  That was one of the reasons I started messing around w/ music production too. I had been rappin' for years, but I was always at the mercy of the producer ( or should I say the lack thereof in my hometown ) when I wanted a track to lay some shit down to.  Plus, its just a natural progression from one aspect of the music to another for those of us who love this shit.

In my experience, the best producers are all a bunch of weirdo's and flakes who like to play female games with their beats.
I'm so glad those "$5,000-a-track" days are long gone for all but the truly proven PRODUCERS. Most of these dudes making beats are just that: beat programmers. They don't know how to produce an arrangement in song form.
Me personally, I never wanted to learn to produce, and ultimately, that probably contributed to me losing my shot. Now in my old age I'm seeing how cats like Soulja Boy, Kanye, Pharell, and Polow are all closet (pause) rappers, anyway.
Who knows where this thing is headed??
