Rapper Rev Run, of pioneering group Run-DMC, will be honored as a BMI Icon
at the 7th Annual Urban Awards, which will take place in Las Vegas, NV
in September.
BMI bestows the annual award to songwriters and artists who have "a
unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers."
Rev Run will be honored at The New York New York in Las Vegas, NV on
September 7.
An all-star musical tribute to Rev Run for earning The Icon Award will
highlight the evening.
"I was with my wife when the call came in that I was to get the Icon Award," Rev Run told AllHipHop.com. "I sat in my car blown away and numb, to god be the glory!"
Artists like Al Green, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Little Richard, Chuck
Berry, Antonio "L.A." Reid and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds and others have
received BMI's Icon Award.
The invitation-only event is being hosted by BMI President/CEO Del
Bryant and Atlanta Writer/Publisher VP Catherine Brewton.
The 7th Annual BMI Urban Awards will recognize the most played BMI urban
songs on the radio.
An Urban Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Publisher of the Year
and Producer of the Year will be named during the ceremony.
