Hip-Hop artist David Banner sent 80 children from the Stewpot Neighborhood Children's program in Jackson, Mississippi on an all expense paid trip to Six Flags over Georgia today (July 20).

The rapper provided a bus, food, t-shirts and admission to the park on the annual excursion, which he has been sponsoring since 2005, with the intention of exposing the youth to different environments.

“The children that we serve at Stewpot would not normally be able to go on an 'out of town' trip," said Stewpot Community Services Counselor, Sherry Adams. "Most of the kids in the community have not been out of Mississippi. Because of Banner's love for our community, he makes it possible for our kids to travel outside of Mississippi, on a fun and exciting summer trip every year. David made it all possible because these kids don't have to pay a dime.”

Stewpot Neighborhood Children's program offers an after-school program and summer camp to over 200 at-risk youth from Mississippi.

The program focuses on providing children safe havens after school and during the summer, while offering educational help, self-esteem building and positive role models.

David Banner is currently putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album The Greatest Story Ever Told, which is slated to be released in October.

DB, good look my dude.  Calling all rappers and athletes to give back some time and dough back to the community.  Don't just give to Mercedes and Cadilac, $500 red monkey and $1000 bathing apes.  Your outfit could make some POOR kids life worth the struggle.  Lets go black people.  Much Love.  I give now how bout you?  Katrina victims still need us.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOA!!!

WHERE DID YOU GET THAT PIC FROM, KING KAREEM (PRAYING THAT IT'S NOT FAKE)?

AS FOR THE STORY, EVERY BIG TIME RAPPER SHOULD DO THIS, BUT I'LL BE VERY CAREFUL OF WHAT RIDE(S) I CHOOSE AT THESE AMUSEMENT PARKS.  A FEW WEEKS AGO, SOMEONE LOST BOTH OF THEIR LEGS ON A RIDE AT A AMUSEMENT PARK.  AND YOU KNOW WHO'S GOING TO BE THE BLAME IF THAT HAPPENS TO ONE OF THE KIDS BANNERS TAKING.  YEP, YOU GUESS IT, HIP HOP.

PEACE AND MORE HAIR GREASE.

This story causes me to have mixed feelings about rappers today.

This man, David Banner, is not the most paid rapper/producer in the industry right now. Not that he's broke either but my point is that there are plenty of others who have just as much if not more money than he does yet you very rarely hear about them doing stuff for their community. Dont get me wrong there are a few. But the keyword there is "few".  I mean how much money did it really take to pay for that entire trip? I could just about garauntee you that it didnt cost as much as some other rappers spend on simple birthday parties, bling, cars, and other unnecesarry stuff.
Yet, when all they hype started about them using the N word the first thing they started yellin was how they only reppin for they community and how people need to start raising their kids...come on now. u can rep for you community and paint a picture of the streets and talk about all the bad things that go on in those hoods and how until they change rap music wont change. But you cant even put up a few dollars to try to give those kids a safe place to go other than the street corners.
come on now. I applaud Mr. Banner for his contributions. While at the same time i am simply disgusted by the actions of others who will be the first ones to say its not there responsibility yet they rep for there hood...get outta here wit that mess!!

David Banner is definitely an intelligent brotha'. Got a masters from Southern and was Class President while there too. I'm a witness. He's also cool cause he doesn't believe in rockin' bling. If y'all watch his videos and appearances, he doesn't wear jewelry and he even offers a thoughtful explanation, citing that if the rest of us black folks can't afford all that, why should he rub it in our faces. I may not like all his music, but I like what the man stands up for.

Truly,

Kudos to David Banner he is always giving and so are others in Hip Hop, like Diddy, TI, Jay-Z, David Banner, Usher, Ludacris, Jarmaine Dupri, they not only gave major contributions but did things on the down-low as well.  Diddy not only contributes to situations in New York, but also in the ATL, not only during Katrina but in other ways like Hosea Feed the Hungry and just local causes that have come up.  Jay-Z  during Kartrina as well and now in Africa with the water situation. Ludacris gives not only through his foundation, but in other local causes as well.  TI during the Katrina situation not only gave personally but got on the radio and called several celebs personally and had them to give, as well as building houses, giving to urban farming, and other local and community causes.  I said all this to say, just because you don't hear about it through the media doesn't mean that they aren't doing it.  Yes, 50 needs to get more involved and give and so do others in many other industries as well, maybe he will get on  board with some of the cats from the ATL & the South that everyone is always criticizing and saying that their expression of Hip Hop is why Hip Hop is dead.  Food for thought!

I'd love for Banner to get a piece of a radio station or tv station down there so he can get some pub. Banner needs more exposure; he needs a platform outside the music to express his views. Dude is important to the culture...
