Atlantic Issues Statement Regarding Lil' Kim's Departure

Atlantic Records has issued a statement regarding the status of their longtime artist Lil' Kim.

"We wish Lil' Kim the best of luck in all of her future endeavours," reps for the label told AllHipHop.com exclusively, confirming her departure from the label.

Atlantic issued the statement after Lil’ Kim, born Kimberly Jones, told DJ Kay Slay last week that she felt no resentment towards her former label home, and that with her increased knowledge of the music business, she now feels more comfortable with the idea of releasing her music independently.

Lil' Kim spent over a decade on Atlantic Records, releasing her first of four albums on the label, beginning with Hardcore, in 1996.

With the success of her first two singles, the Diddy-assisted "No Time" and "Not Tonight," which was released as an all-star remix featuring Angie Martinez, Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopez, and Missy Elliot, Hardcore sold over a million records within seven months of it's release.

Hardcore was certified two-times platinum by the RIAA in 2001.

Her subsequent two releases, 2000's Notorious K.I.M. and 2003's La Bella Mafia, were both RIAA-certified platinum releases.

Kim's last album The Naked Truth was released two months after she was sentenced to a year and one day in jail on conspiracy and purjury charges.

The album failed to match her previous successes, moving almost 400,000 copies to date.

While Lil Kim is rumored to be heading over to Imperial Records, Capitol/EMI's independent branch, which also counts Fat Joe among the artists on its roster, reps for Imperial told AllHipHop.com that Lil Kim has not been signed to the label as of press time.

Ya she sold more than all female rappers except Missy.
Hard Core was the first female rap album to go Multi-Platinum ever. La Bella Mafia was the last female rap record to Platinum.
But KIM was in prison when Naked Truth was released.

Anyway, I couldnt careless who she signs to, that "Ms GOAT" mixtape was straight fucking fiyah. & I cant wait for her next album to come out this Spring, since been in prison and all.

Check out that "Rock On Wit Yo Badself" joint off her mixtape.

Some of you need to look up the work HATE in the dictionary. What would you do if your were in her situation? She's been on that label for 10 yrs. Her contract is up. she don't owe them anything. Now what would a smart person do? Sign another contract , or venture out on your own? Obviously some of you people need to take some business courses. At the end of the day, i think she's making a smart move. Her name still rings bells, regardless of how she looks, or what she does. She self promotes herself, she don't need a label to do that. She's already proven that. She's been on most of the hit records you hear on the radio today.  Do your thing Kim and get that money. In a few years there will be no labels especially since artist nowadays have to promote there own shit in order for it to sell, unless ur a 50 Cent or Jay-Z.

Thats right folks...lets ask for a tape that degrades another black woman, so that she can get her career on track...That is why that garbage moves. The next cat that comes down on hip hop and does not like what it hears..Needs to look in their CD changer, ipod, etc, and then walk to a mirror, look in it and say " I am the reason hip hop is going to garbage, but I will do better, before I expect the next man to do better"...

Also, since when did entertainers become role models...Not just rap (sports, music, movies, etc). When will we realize that the media is controlled by the top 5% owners of the worlds wealth, and that  they will never put a positive role model. If you want role models...Pick up a book. At this point and time they let anybody print anything because they know that ignorance cant stand  books as much as a vampire cant stand the sun.

Id rather see KIM w/G-Unit, than that tranny. KIM & 50 have great chemistry together when it comes to making hot music!

She obviously can promote herself better than most other artist...I'm still waiting for them to put her purple pasty outfit from the '99 MTV VMA's in the Brooklyn Museum.... lol...

Not to mention KIM is a walking LEGEND in the hip hop world!!

All in all she's back w/Lance "UN" Rivera (Uncle Paulie). He's the guy who helped make "HARD CORE" & The TrackMasterz are producing her next album! Coming out this Spring. U know it's gonna be hot since she's been to prison & all. I cant wait !
