Producer Rockwilder Dumps Secular Rap For Christian Hip-Hop

Producer Rockwilder is planning to take his award winning music to enter the world of Christian Hip-Hop, he said.

In an interview with Movement TV, the Grammy Award winning producer said he has become bored with the current state of Hip-Hop music and will be returning to his roots in the church.

“It’s a new movement going on. And it’s a situation whereas Hip-Hop has reached a level to where it’s boring. [I don’t] really wants to glorify the violent aspects of it,” he said. “Right now, I’m pretty much doing a 360-degree [change] and bringing it back to the essence when I was first raised on that and that Christian music.”

Rockwilder, born Dana Stinson, is well known for his work with childhood friend Redman.

In 1999, he produced Method Man and Redman's “Da Rockwilder,” a song considered classic by many in rap circles

Since his commercial breakthough he has produced for Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Janet Jackson, Destiny's Child and others.

In 2001, he won a Grammy for a remake of Labelle's "Lady Marmalade" with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mýa and Pink for the film Moulin Rouge!

“Its like giving the secular world a rest and treading on this new ground, which is Christian Hip-Hop,” he said.”

Rockwilder implied strongly that he might never return to doing music for the masses in the manner he has before, but also will leave his options open to working with acts like Redman and Method Man.

“You know, I’m still who I am, but I know my focus and my drive is going to be towards Christian music. I like the message, I like the music, I like the way it is received,” he explained.

“We’re in a generation where we are killing each other rapidly and a lot of kids ain’t learning…so they are gonna learn from the streets. Basically the music is gonna raise some of these kids and I don’t want to be apart of that. I’m just for the Kingdom.”

Rockwilder is currently working with a number of Christian rap acts.

i feel Rockwilder on the fact that HIP HOP has basically become wack. We're going backwards in hip hop. Most of these clowns wouldn't have even been able to be a roadie with the MC's of the 80's and early 90's for that matter. There's no balance in hip hop, either u killin', dealin or hustlin', or u doing nursery rhyme dances and songs or u got kids telling u about clubs and drinking like they done lived life.
OOOh, then u got these grown ass men and woman running around trying to keep up with these teenagers. it's a mess, and to be honest with you, I just turned 27 and i'm disappointed with hip hop. I have been listening to an artist named Kaz-mir and he's awesome (myspace.com/BLACKMARKETDFE).and of course u have to listen to ur legends (and they're too many to name). But reall other than that, i don't do the radio because its garbage. So Rockwilder, do what u doing. u've already made ur name in the hip hop history pages!!!!!! God is on ur side and he's gonna bless u tenfold. Real music lives on!!!!!!!!!

A lot of hiphop does suck and is full of ignorance, I can understand him not wanting to be affiliated with it. I can respect his decision, as long as if red and mef coming call for beats, he doesn't turn down the homies who helped him be who he is and delivers that classic shit

oh pleeeeeeeeze. U r a producer, what difference does it make what somebody says on your record. As long as u make a hot track. Thats all that matters. Mainstream hip hop is barely making any money, just imagine how much he'll be making doing religious rap. GTFOH. I'm tired of all these bitchass rappers talking about the state of hip hop, but they arent doing shit to unite, make better music, and change things. All they do is bitch...bitch...bitch. The conscious rappers of the past had great beats, fun lyrics and a message. Thats what made them so successful. Conscious rappers nowadays just bitch over wack beats.
