Kanye West’s moving tribute to his late mother Dr. Donda West during the 50th annual Grammy Awards has inspired a California Assemblywoman to sponsor the “Donda West Law.”

Wilmer Amina Carter (D-Rialto) has been working on a new bill that will require patients to receive clearance from a licensed doctor, before undergoing plastic surgery.

Carter, who has been working with the California Medical Association to craft the bill, made the announcement about the proposed legislation on Friday (February 22).

The proposed bill comes on the heels of the high profile death of Dr. West, which received intense media coverage.

West, 58, died from complications of plastic surgery after receiving a breast reduction, liposuction and a tummy tuck.

While the actual cause of Dr. West’s death is not known, coroners have concluded that she died from a combination of heart disease and complications from the anesthesia.

Carter, who represents San Bernardino, Fontana, Rialto, Colton, Bloomington and Muscoy counties, hopes the legislation will pass statewide.

Other states being targeted to pass similar laws include New York, Illinois, Oklahoma.

its really too bad that a beautiful intelligent woman like Donda West would
go to a doctor who is more interested in fame than in life.. Im sorry this happened to her. the medical community should be ashamed they allowed a doctor who repeatedly had been reported for malpractice, to continue to operate on people.. shame on them all..

No Disrespect to anyone at all but..

To my understanding of these doctors and stuff....isn't it up to the patients to perform there own research on the doctor....There are plenty of deaths from surgery each day and  we never hear about these deaths....

I have friends who have done some breast enhancements and reductions and they researched the doctors for long periods of time even before going into the doctor...

I am confused as to how Kanye West would even allow his mom to go to a doctor that was not researched on!!! It is not everyday that you hear of someone either in the celebrity status scene to die often from there own doctors ....Also whatever is going on with this doctor....is he getting away free with this? or did Kanye West come his way with court stuff?

I know one thing i will be helping any friends into researching there doctors before any more type of body enhancement surgery....

R.I.P. to Donda West

@SlimTurk
I'm pretty sure she did her research, in fact, before the incident he had came highly recommended. Even by Oprah. Although he did have malpractice suits, that didn't make him a horrible DR many DR's get sued all the time and still practice medicine. You will be surprised how many get sued at your local hospital and still maintain their ability to practice. Also, it was found not the didnt do anything wrong with the surgery, her body simply didnt react well from it. Every single person who goes to the DR knows that there is a chance that whatever treatment they recieve, their body may not react accordingly. Whether it be a certain type of surgery or medication.
