Sean “Diddy” Combs and Outkast’s Big Boi have teamed to advance the career of new artist Janelle Monáe, who recently signed to Bad Boy Records, via a pact with Monáe’s Atlanta-based record label, the Wondaland Arts Society.

Big Boi will serve as co-executive producer of Monáe’s debut release, titled Metropolis Suite EP.

Monáe, who hails from Kansas City, Kansas, attended high school at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy.

After a move to Atlanta, she was discovered by Nate “Rocket” Wonder and Chuck Lighting and trio founded Wondaland Productions.

Shortly after signing with Wondaland, Janelle Monáe landed high profile collaborations with Big Boi on the tracks "Call The Law" and "In Your Dreams" from OutKast’s Idlewild soundtrack and was featured in the video for the single, "Morris Brown."

It was these collaborations with Big Boi that caught the attention of Combs, who labeled Monáe’s signing one of the most important events in his career.

“Over the years, I’ve been blessed to work with some of the most influential artists in modern music – from Jodeci to Mary J. to Biggie – and there is no doubt in my mind that Janelle is the kind of artist that changes the game,” Combs said. “She is a true visionary, with an original sound and a mesmerizing presence. I can’t wait to watch the future unfold for Janelle.”

The Metropolis Suite EP will introduce Monáe’s android alter ego, Cindi Mayweather, who aims to pull listeners in using her “sci-fi inspired world of cyber soul.”

Metropolis is the place I’ve been dreaming about all these years – a city inside your head,” says Janelle. “It’s an adventure the music brings to life…in many respects, this unique partnership is a reflection of my belief that this is a new day, a new entertainment industry, and a world where the notion of what is independent and what is mainstream changes every day. In this new, rapidly changing environment, I am thrilled that Antwan ‘Big Boi’ Patton and Sean Combs have partnered with me and the Wondaland Arts Society to promote my music and art around the world."”

Janelle Monáe will follow the Metropolis Suite EP with her untitled debut full-length album in September.

“What I love about Janelle is that she has a magical ability to bring folks together,” stated Big Boi. “And she’s one of most inspiring performers ever.”

lol...Nas a bum?..LMFAO!!!..dumbest thing I've heard in a while....lol..Kelis is the T-Pain of R&B(She's lame in concert...she'a a studio singer) The Neptunes were always the real stars of any good Kelis song. Nas is by far one of the greatest rappers ever. Kelis can't even drop a greatest hits album worth buying.

Janelle Monae is dope, the best way I can describe her is maybe a female version of Prince...lol...Far more talented than Kelis. SOUTH DEKALB 404 isn't lying she really does have a die hard fan base. I have about 7 songs off of Metropolis Suite and they are all fire.

nas is still a bum. but i'll agree with you monae is miles more talented than kelis but the neptunes/kelis had this futuristic idea long before anybody else IMO -- and i stress idea. it seems like monae has/will take it further

and no Kelis can't sing all that well live. but her first album was a breath of fresh air be honest.

Kelis' first album was ok..."Get Alng With You" was crazy. But back to Nas being a bum...How the hell do you justify calling him a bum?...lol..He's respected by every credible rapper,producer...every credible hiphop media outlet recognizes his greatness. @ whoever said hiphop is dead was garbage you are probably part of the reason hiphiop is so lame right now. Black Republican,Let There Be Light, Hold Down The Block, Still Dreaming, CARRY ON TRADITION!!!...The concept of that song alone is fire....Even his mixtape shit is legendary lol...He an never be a bum...It's one thing to not like him but it's another thing to call him a "Bum".

I can't wait for NIGGER to drop!!!

Who doesn't call nas a bum? its like been a running joke for...near a decade now? I half jokingly call him a bum but he's still in my top 5. I bought HHID and will most likely check for N****R, but as a person my opinion varies.

but back to Janelle Monae -- im really excited to see what she does. I hope Mrgodbyroad is wrong about Big Boi I hope they don't drop the ball on this one. Def Jam fucked up shit for Chrisette Michelle hopefully diddy throws the bank behind this girl.

I wouldn't worry about Big Boi messing things up for Janelle, Metropolis Suite is being executive produced by Big Boi because the album was completed while she was still signed to his label. Her...Metropolis suite is an EP not an LP(Full Lengthed) album. The LP will be released under Bad Boy exclusively.
You're right though MR GODBYROAD Big Boi does damage up and coming artists careers.
