A track on Lil Wayne’s upcoming album Tha Carter III has been selected as the theme for the upcoming movie Hurricane Season, formerly titled Patriots it was announced today (June 6).

“Tie My Hands” is a duet with singer Robin Thicke and in addition to the track being featured on Tha Carter III, the digital release comes with an exclusive film version of the song featuring Lil Wayne rhyming about the movie.

Lil Wayne, who hails from New Orleans’ devastated 17th Ward, also has a starring role in Hurricane Season, which features Forest Whitaker, Isaiah Washington, Taraji Henson and fellow rapper Bow Wow.

The movie tells the true story of five basketball players in Marrero, Louisiana from different high schools, who end up on the same basketball team one year after Hurricane Katrina.

The players, under guidance from coach Al Collins, lead their high school to the state championship game.

"With all the tragedy that my home has suffered these last few years since Katrina, I was glad to see that someone wanted to show that through everything New Orleans also has some positive things going on,” Lil Wayne said. “I am also very happy that Hurricane Season is not only my first major part in a motion picture movie, but a movie about where I grew up.”

Hurricane Season is being directed by Tim Story (Fantastic Four) for The Weinstein Company, who revealed that the movie will hit theaters nationwide on Christmas Day.

"We are very excited about Hurricane Season and thrilled that the film has now inspired Lil Wayne's powerful song. Today's announcement is a huge addition to this highly anticipated film and will only help broaden the audience appeal. We look forward to continuing to work with Tim Story, Forest Whitaker, Lil Wayne, Raymond Brothers and the rest of the team as we get closer to the Christmas Day release date."

Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III is due to arrive in stores on June 10th.

Sounds like an interesting storyline, and seein that a lotta ppl makin negative comments weren't affected by Katrina, I could see why this would go over their head. I aint sayin Wayne gonna get an Oscar, but that's where he's FROM, he's qualified to be in the damn movie, damn. This aint got nothin to do w/ rap, I'm buyin Boondocks, 2!! (Funny, tho, Wayne is on the Katrinians episode on Boondocks, 2!! U gonna get a lil Wayne no matter which one u buy on June 10th, so now's a good time to not hate!!)

um yeah whatever, Im a fan of The Boondocks as well but I am personally gettin a little tired of Dewayne Carter, first there were the comments made against mix tape dj's, then I just read on another site how he threatned to beat DJ Khaled's ass coz he was late for a video shoot.
I think he's beginning to get the "Kanye West" syndrome and he is feelin hiself a little too much these days, allow me to step off and let you do you.

Good for Bow Wow. I haven't seen Lil Wayne act before but it seems like Romeo should have been in this movie. Sense he's from the area and he actually plays basketball for a real basketball team. Plus he's in film school!

But Wayne is the hot one so the hot boy gets first dibs.

I guess you have to be a, Katrina victim or Support "wanting this story to stay up front because most of the victims who look like me have not been helped." to see this film as relevant and needed.

I support it and I will be going to see it, more then once. For me, it could be a bunch of no names in the flick. The subject makes it very necessary.

At least SOMEBODY else felt me on this, real spit, this article aint got nothin 2 do w/ the comments on DJs, etc., this is one of those times where u set the arguments aside and look @ the big picture. It's about time a motion picture came out dealin w/ this issue, and yes, it coulda been Webbie or Mystikal, but it's not. It's Wayne.  And actually, I haven't heard Webbie or Mystikal speak on the Katrina thing (maybe my ear wasn't to the streets enough) but listen to Wayne's verse in that song w/ Rich Boy, John Legend, Nas "Ghetto."  We dun seen a lotta news headlines since Katrina and these government-ran stations report foolishness everyday to get the real issues pushed further back in our minds. Anything addressing Katrina right now is valid, and Wayne, amongst other rappers from N.O., is qualified to have a part.
