Grammy Award winning rapper Coolio was arrested today on an outstanding traffic warrant, the LA Times reports.

The arrest occurred at 1:00 a.m. in Hollywood, near the corners of Sunset Boulevard and Sweetzer Avenue. Coolio, real name Artis Leon Ivey Jr., was pulled over on a routine traffic stop due to expired tags on his 1996 Hummer. It was then discovered that the rapper had an outstanding misdemeanor for driving with a suspended license. He was released at 6:40 a.m. after posting a $10, 000 bond.

Coolio began his career as a member of WC and the Maad Circle in 1991. After leaving on amicable terms, he found immediate success with his 1994 platinum debut It Takes a Thief, which spawned the hit single “Fantastic Voyage.” Coolio achieved his biggest success with the 1995 follow-up Gangsta’s Paradise, which reached 4X platinum. The album found crossover success after the title track was prominently featured in the Michelle Pfeiffer drama “Dangerous Minds.”

Coolio is tentatively scheduled to release a new album this year titled Steal Hear.

i believe you only have to pay 10% of the bond, so he only had to pay a G.  correct me if i'm wrong, but i always thought it's 10%

why is he driving on a suspended license on one of the busiest parts of the city?  what a fool.

You're right...but a lot of times, cats with bread will just pay the whole amount themselves and get that money back after the court date.  If I'm not mistaken, the full amount is refundable whether you're found guilty or not guilty.  People who don't have bread will pay 10 percent and employ a bondsman...but that 10 percent is not refundable.  So for cats with bread, they'll come out better just funding the shit themselves.

Or....like somebody else said, the court also has programs to help you make bond too.

I don't think getting arrested for a traffic ticket is a pr stunt.

In other actual PR moves, Coolio has had his cooking show on MyDamnChannel.com which is hilarious. We did an interview with him about it a while back. I'm hoping to have him back again to talk about some healthy cooking (better than Jazze Pha's Pork Chop Pizza that Illseed posted about a couple of months ago. lol)
