@Jay322: I don't know man, I agree with most everything you said, albeit one thing. I think Wayne did his numbers more so off of the promotion he got from all those mixtapes and features. You can't knock Lil Wayne's hustle. Though, NAS would've have most definitely sold more if he had received better promotion. Def Jam puts more into they're newer acts than they do established...which makes sense to a certain degree, but still, I've both seen and heard more from Ace Hood than Nas. They did him so, so greazy. When you think about it, if it wasn't for all the controversy surrounding the title, most wouldn't have even known about the album at all. Take away that controversy, and then try to figure how much promotion got. Virtually none. I don't know what's going on at Def Jam, but this is insane.

That is so damn true....here in Toronto, Canada the BestBuy and Futureshop stores never ever put the new hip hop / rap albums in the new release section....If they don't want to put them albums in the proper section then i think these artists should talk to these retail chains about this issue....

This is not my first time I had to also search one of them stores for a new hip hop / rap album at Bestbuy or futureshop....

I started shopping at HMV instead since they have the albums easier to find in the store....

In reality that is not a good debut sales week. I am hoping that the album is good and now that I have some time I will be adding to the second weeks numbers. Wayne is a good artist just very experimental and not all of it works but why he gotta be assassinated for having balls and trying.

NAS is the hands down greatest lyricist of all time as well as an amazing story teller and he will always have my loyalty like white folks have for the Beatles, or mexicans have for Celia Cruz, or Puerto Ricans have for Tito Puente or Black people have for Stevie Wonder. You gotta put him in that catagory if you are a hip-hop head. PEACE

This Nas album was ill. Not a real banger like you can just get into from the get go. I mean I liked it at first, but you have to sit and listen to the rhymes and everything to get it and appreciate it more. "Hero" is the most accessible and bumpin song on the album. I'm surprised it doesn't get more play. Polow da Don is a hot up and coming producer (or beatmaker, whatever he is), and I'da thought more people would be backing the single due to of his recent popularity. I guess the majority of the industry is still afraid to push anything that might rock the boat, definitely including Nas' album. What a bunch of pansies.

Congratulations to Nas, and I think this album will sell on a more consistent basis. I bet you he does close to the same numbers again the second week. A lot of people don't rush to the stores the first few days to get a new album, especially many of the typical Nas fans. It seems like most people who listen to "real" Hip Hop and more lyrical, thought provoking or underground shit talk a lot of trash but aren't the first in line to support "the real" artists.

Stop hating, keep congratulating, and just continue to support music you like. FOR WHATEVER REASON.
