Reformed Gangsta rapper Master P. was rewarded for his community work over the weekend, when he received the key to the city of Memphis, Tennessee.

Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton presented Master P. with the key on Saturday (August 1) during the first annual "Let The Kids Grow Day," which was held at the Mud Island Amphitheatre.

The goal of the free back-to-school event was to spread positive messages about education and to steer elementary and middle school children away from drugs and crime.

"No other rapper or entertainer is as committed to the community as Master P and I am proud of him," Mayor Herenton said. "Master P changed his life and took the negativity out of his music but stayed true to the hood."

The event also drew out a number of influential supporters, including Memphis City Schools Superintendent Kriner Cash, as well as Memphis native Morgan Freeman, who attended the event with his granddaughter.

The children were also entertained by Master P.'s son Romeo, as well as the new character they've created, Gee Gee the Giraffe.

"My mission is to give inner-city kids a jump on education and the best possible start," said Miller. "I want those kids and my own kids to be better than me. I've been luckier than most to have a second chance at life. We train our kids to be good athletes, why can't we train our kids to be good students."

The 1st annual "Let The Kids Grow Day" was sponsored by P. Miller Clothing, Jim Finkl Enterprises, Heal the Hood Foundation, and Wal-Mart.

Anyways, do not think that this is a first time that he is donating and doing good for the projects because he has always done it from the days of No Limit Records when everyone on that label was dropping albums every week or two weeks....

    Do your research...

Morgan Freeman seriously hurt in car accident
Police say actor's car left Mississippi highway and flipped several times

Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman was seriously injured in a car accident in Mississippi on Sunday night according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Police report that Freeman, 71, was driving eastbound on Highway 32 near the town of Ruleville, Miss., around 11:30 p.m. when his car left the road and flipped several times.

Police say Freeman and a female passenger had to be extracted from the vehicle and the actor was flown to Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn., where spokeswoman Kathy Stringer said he was listed in serious condition. There was no word on the condition of the passenger.

The hospital, commonly known as The Med, is an acute-care teaching facility that serves patients within 150 miles of Memphis.

Ashley Norris, manager of the Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale, that is owned by Freeman, confirmed the actor was in a wreck. Norris said she had no other details.

TMZ.com is reporting that state troopers said "The Dark Knight" star was talking at the scene of the accident and that a friend of the actor's said Freeman was sitting up and talking at the hospital.

And I know that this is gonna make me sound like a big tyme hater but...How the hell does doing one thing in a city that u don't even come around in that much get u a key to the city? Is it that damn easy? There are preachers and shit in the city that help out their communities all the time in Memphis and I don't see 'ol Willie handing them out Keys. I'm proud of P cleaning up his act and helping out, but this shit just seems weird to me. But P is cool, so...keep on. LMAO at Gee Gee the Giraffe.

    @ Young Brink

    @ Bipro20

Yeah, P did his thing in the M, but there are also A LOT of Hurrican Katrina folk here now

    @ Ikon Radio.com

Yeah, you can't put a black jacket on all of these rappers here because most of them are only making local money.  And we all know that at the end of the day, it's about money and resources. Love for the kids goes without sayin', but what's love got to do with these kids eatin'.  Most of these rappers here are strugglin' themselves.

Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman was in a hospital in Memphis, Tenn., on Monday after being injured in a car accident near his home in Mississippi.

Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Kathy Stringer said Freeman, 71, is in serious condition. The hospital is about 90 miles north of the accident scene in rural Tallahatchie County in the Mississippi Delta.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Ben Williams said Freeman was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima belonging to Demaris Meyer of Memphis when the car left a rural highway and flipped several times shortly before midnight Sunday.

"There's no indication that either alcohol or drugs were involved," Williams said. He said both Freeman and Meyer were wearing seat belts. The woman's condition was not immediately available.
View more MSN videosGo to MSNBC

Freeman was airlifted to the hospital in Tennessee.

Clay McFerrin, editor of Sun Sentinel in Charleston, said he arrived at the accident scene on Mississippi Highway 32 soon after it happened about 5 miles west of Charleston, not far from where Freeman owns a home with his wife.

McFerrin said it appeared that Freeman's car was airborne when it left the highway and landed in a ditch.

"They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle," McFerrin said. "He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point."

McFerrin said bystanders converged on the scene trying to get a glimpse of the actor.

When one person tried to snap a photo with a cell phone camera, Freeman joked, "no freebies, no freebies," McFerrin said.

Freeman won an Oscar for his role in "Million Dollar Baby." His screen credits also include "The Shawshank Redemption," "Driving Miss Daisy" and "The Dark Knight," now in theaters.

He was born in Memphis, Tenn., but spent much of his childhood in the Mississippi Delta. He is a co-owner of the Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale.

The hospital where Freeman is being treated is commonly known as The Med, and is an acute-care teaching facility that serves patients within 150 miles of Memphis. We Send Our Prayers Out To Freeman And Fam..

then why the fuck wasnt they promoting the shit to the kids? this shit didnt make the news or radio until after the event, and after P got the key.....he's not responsible to promote shit, the "city" is pushin' bullshit, and sellin' the kids short.
