Florian Schneider, founding member of the seminal group Kraftwerk, has confirmed his departure from the band.

On their official website, Kraftwerk verified the news and acknowledged Schneider’s invaluable contributions to their sound.

“Florian Schneider leaves Kraftswerk after a 40 year partnership with Ralf Hutter,” the group stated in a prepared statement. “This partnership has generated an incredible music and huge advances in music technology.”

Kraftwerk holds a revered and lasting place in Hip-Hop culture through their classic songs “Trans-Europe Express” and “Numbers.”

The tracks were sampled and reworked by Afrika Bambaataa to create another classic in 1982’s “Planet Rock,” one of Hip-Hop’s first hits that brought the culture international recognition.

The continued influence of Kraftwerk’s innovation and experimentation with synthesizers, robotized vocals, and machine-derived drum rhythms heavily contributed to the birth of electro and house music.

"Florian is a great musician, always seeking the perfect sound through technology,” Kraftwerk stated. “[He] Refined and perfected sounds and vocoders to impossible levels of perfection.”

Other Hip-Hop artist who have found inspiration from Kraftwerk’s style include: Jay-Z (“It’s Alright,” “Sunshine”), De La Soul (“Ghetto Thang”), Kool G. Rap & DJ Polo (“Rhymes I Express”), Mc Lyte (“Cha Cha Cha”), and JJ Fad (“Supersonic”).

Kraftwerk closed out 2008 with a tour featuring remaining members Ralf Hutter, Fritz Hilpert, Henning Schmitz, and Stefan Pfaffe.

I hear you illseed.  People are just ignorant.  That is a major issue, certain people want to spew the hateful idea that Hip-Hop is for certain people.  In its inception, punk rockers were some of Hip-Hop's biggest supporters.  They were both considered out of the norm music in the late 70s in NYC.  Only in Hip-Hop we have such ignorance.  Shame.

Thats why russ had to go to profile with run dmc. They GOT it. Also, Blondie was one of the earliest supporters. look at how melle mel and bambaataa used do dress like...that's the punk influence. anyway...i'm out.

props to illseed and all the real heads that know the extent to which other music forms helped create this "thing of ours", shit i remember copping the 7" of Tour De France and trying that broomstick ish that Turbo was doing back in like 84 LOL
and of course the punk thing with Fab 5 Freddy doing Blondie vids and her doing Rapture etc - KNOW YOUR HISTORY PUNKS.

i agree with WaterUrSeeds I love the way their music has been sampled and incorporated into Hip Hop, I often wondered what sound you would have got if some Hip Hop producer would hook up with Kraftwerk and do some hip Hop inspired tracks with guest MC's.........

Shouts to alll UK heads.

Well dudes shouldn't be to surprised at the ignorance of most of todays youth. This is like the only genre in which the ones who came before are not respected. Acts like Guns N Roses, Nine Inch Nails, and Metallica can come out do tours and still sell tons of records but Big Daddy Kane, Krs-1, and Rakim can't nevermind the originators (at least in this country).

Motherfuckers act like they know so much but once they open their mouths they constantly prove just how idiotic they are.

I have a lot of Kraftwerk because they were real popular in Detroit ( courtesy of The Electrifying Mojo ).  He played them and the Art of Noise.  I got a chance to see Kraftwerk back in 98 when they only did 4 shows in the US and Detroit was one of them.  A concert I will never forget.  It was a great show.  Now if you really want an old electro jam,  try finding Computer Games by Yellow Magic Orchestra... ( only the true heads will remember that one )

Kraftwerk are killers, far ahead of time, and very fortunate to have the synths way before they became mainstream.

Kraftwerk, George Krantz "Din-Daa-Daa(Trommeltanz)"
were only 2 German groups who influence the outlook
of the early Hip-Hop sound.

+5 @ Illseed
+5 more for the art of noise shout out. My brother "Electric Boogied" @ the Big Break Dance contest back in 82' rocking pink puma baskets.

Listen to BDP Criminal Minded LP. " The bridge is over". Hip Hop Classic.  Rock & roll song. ( It's still rock & roll to me" or "Dope Beat" that's an AC/DC joint sampled.

"Boogie down productions, will always get paid, we take the wackest songs & make it better"

Always sampled rock / r&b , just never sampled other rappers / m.c.

It was about originality then.
Who remember "Frisco Disco" ?( IE: Onyx reat )
