EXCLUSIVE: Snoop Dogg Finished With Geffen/Interscope

By Ismael AbduSalaam

Snoop Dogg has confirmed with AllHipHop.com that he will no longer record with Interscope, his label home for over 10 years.

The split comes nearly one year after the release of Snoop's ninth studio album, Ego Trippin'.

Lead by the crossover, 80s inspired ballad "Sexual Eruption," the LP debuted at #3 on Billboard's Top 200, but fell short of gold certification.

While the West Coast veteran declined to give specific details on the reason for the sudden split, Snoop verified there will not be any final albums with Interscope.

"We are pushing the envelope on getting everything finalized," Snoop told AllHipHop.com exclusively. "But I will not be releasing anymore projects under Interscope/Geffen."

In his first tenure with Interscope under Death Row Records, Snoop released his classic, 4X platinum debut Doggystyle (1993), the platinum Murder Was the Case soundtrack (1994), and the double platinum sophomore solo Tha Doggfather (1996).

After moving to Master P's No Limit Records for 3 albums from 1998-2000, and briefly to Capitol/EMI in 2002, Snoop returned to Interscope via the Geffen imprint with 2004's well-received, platinum album R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece, 2006's The Blue Carpet Treatment (gold), and finally 2008's Ego Trippin'.

To date, Snoop Dogg is estimated to have sold over 15 million records worldwide during his tenure with Interscope.

At press time, Snoop has declined on divulge his next possible label home.

snoop will do well. He left deathrow and did his no limit thing and still did fairly well for himself. so him leaving interscope is no big deal. many artist seem as though they are departing away from interscope. makes me wonder what the hell is going on over there.

i can see all rappers going to koch because they get paid there and don't have to have a long wait to put out projects. it is kind of sad that the music industry is turning into trash. i don't blame the artists as much as i blame the label heads, ceo's and whoever else gets involved. like i look at it like this busta rhymes, has been with elektra, j records, aftermath/interscope, and now is with a new label. things like that shouldnt happen. But someone like ll cool j has been on def jam his whole career.

i guess some labels from top to bottom need to take a better look. they can't blame the recession. musaic is a art form and they look at it from a money stand point. i say labels stop fucking with the art of the music and support your artists more, or we will have many more artist like snoop leaving labels leaving us to wonder what the hell happened

man, snoop is a household name, from the burbs to the hood.  he needs to expand more. he got his wife the boss lady business, his record label (what the hell happened to doggys angels and the eastsiderz???LOL). He just needs to kick back and do bigger things.  His name will sell itself.  and his reality show doing good!  Though working with wrestling legend john cena was kinda suspect (what???)  Like everyone said up above, the indie route might be his cup of tea.  but it looks like he needs to hang the mic for the time being and just sell himself and introduce more acts.  I see a doggy park chain in the works LOL!  Dogg leashes etc

And any Interscope product

Don't support interscope.

He's the guy who is really making

the money, instead of the rappers

who claim they do.

He incourages all those useless

beefs. He is the reason why

the east coast wast coast beef

was hyped so much.

Pac was on Death Row/Interscope.

Guess who made the money from

all those pac albums.

especially when Suge is broke.

Snoop needs to be like the major artists and go straight to Sony (Epic or Columbia maybe) or Universal - one of the big labels of all time and ask them for a deal or his own label.

Nas was smart, that's why Nas is still getting big money and all of his albums sell well. There's no such thing as a Nas album that didn't go at least Gold.

Snoop! Here's some people to call (Sony/Epic)!

Rolf Schmidt-Holtz
Amanda Ghost

Or on the other side of the fence (Universal)

Doug Morris
Lyor Cohen
Russell Simmons
Rick Rubin

If Snoop signed to any of these labels his next album would be a thousand times better than this one.

Rick Rubin was cool on Metallica, now put him up on Snoop!

He's hip hop's biggest slave, I hope he retires. Pimp/Gang Banger ain't what's poppin' in 2009 and playing sports with kids won't fix all of the damage you've done with your ghostwritten "music". Go away snoop. Your career was built on hype and has been upheld only by the corporations that own you. If it was up to the hood you would have been ova after your second album.
