A new feature is being developed based on Soul Train, the legendary music/dance show created by Don Cornelius.
Porter/Geller Productions has been tapped to produce the flick along with Cornelius, who was also Soul Train’s longtime host.
The new flick will be set in Los Angeles in the 1980’s and center around a character named “Protag” who is a gifted “popper” seeking to land a spot on the Soul Train Tour.
Soul Train will be written by Malcolm Spellman who is credited with writing the popular movie Dead Presidents, which starred Larenz Tate, Chris Tucker, Keith David and others.
"All of the Hip-Hop street dances you see today were born during that time period and were first seen on that show, and I remember doing all of them when I was a kid," Spellman told Variety. "This guy is a serious popper, with street edge, and he wants to get on that tour, with the hottest of the hot."
Soul Train premiered in August of 1970 and has been on the air or in syndication for almost 39 years.
No release date was available for Soul Train the movie as of press time.
