WHILE TELLIN THE KIDS TO STAY IN SCHOOL IS GOOD, THEY NEED TO HERE IT FROM PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY DID IT AND CAN EXPLAIN WHY ITS SO IMPORTANT. I PERSONALLY KNOW A FEW PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES WHO GO AROUND TO SCHOOLS AND DO GIVE THAT SAME SPEECH AND SOME OF THESE DUDES CAN BARELY READ AND DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO BALANCE A CHECK BOOK.

I KNOW IT WILL EVER HAPPEN BUT WE NEED TO START PUTTING BLACK DR'S AND LAWYERS AND BUSINESSMEN ON THE SAME PEDESTAL THAT WE DO OUR CELEBRITIES.

How about some of these entertainers and athletes should take online courses and complete their education and state that even though they did pursue their dreams and goals and made them reality how fundamental higher learning and education model them to be successful business men and women and entereprenuer. Now I will be impress if TI state that he has a college degree in business, communications, marketing, etc so other youth can emulate that.

Well unfortunately a lot of our youth do not read. When I was growing up I was in the heat of all the hustle, but I knew who the real movers and shakers were because I read the Wall Street Journal (and still do until this day) and the HBR (Harvard Business Review).

If you want to master any aspect of life you need to study examples of those that succeed and fail. The reality is that I learned more from my own studies than I ever learned from school, and I was a Computer Science/Economics double major. The real dope dealers are dominated by highly educated individuals, not two bit street punks. If you ever hit the big Fed joints, like Petersberg, those cats are heavy hitters, far from dummies. Most of the real connects are in jail, and that is no lie. That is not to encourage the knuckleheads to get locked up, but even prison is filled with people that can harm or help you depending on your level of being able to deal with what comes your way.

I agree that these kids need to hear this message from people who actually DID finish school, or who at least went back and finished it. I know, there aren't a WHOLE lot of rappers, but there are some:
I know Stat Quo graduated from UF, and isn't Murphy Lee at some University in Missouri right now? I think? And Weezy taking online classes, at least he was.
As for John Starks, I have a suggestion for his message:
"Stay in school so you don't end up like Isiah Thomas, tanking one the most historic franchises in sports, and then being a dumbass and getting sued for sexual harrassment." (For those who don't know, espn is reporting that the jury is leaning against Thomas.)

im all for the stay in school pep rally, getting athletes is all good b/c of course they had to attend school and at least get a diploma to be where they are today. But if Jimmy and Juelz dont at least have a high school diploma how are the kids suppose to look up to them and get encouragement to stay in school when all they talk about is there block, hustlin and how much dough they got. They need to get some other peeps like Lil Brother, Kayne West, Lil Romeo (he is going to college right and on a scholarship) Diddy (he at least went to Howard for a couple of years before he drop out, but at least he got a diploma) just a few names that i could think of off the top of my head

I think this is exactly what the youth needs. Cats get on here and act like because these rappers dropped out of school; they got rich the next day. Kids need both sides of the story cause someone who stayed in school can say,"Look what I was able to do because I stayed in school." On the flip side...they can't tell you first hand the struggles that come after you decide to drop out. They don't know the evils...they can only speculate. A kid is more prone to listen to someone who really did drop out because they know the consequences, and they can tell you all the friends they lost to the streets. Let's not forget that these rappers are the lucky ones...they're still here.

They definitely need both. They also need to see someone like Jim and Juelz to big up Doctors and lawyers and the teachers who worked hard for their degrees. I'm sure these rappers are making sure their kids are getting the best education money can buy so they have to give back to the hood in the same way and encourage kids to stay in school. "telling kids to stay in school" and providing a way to ensure they stay in school and have the neccessary books is two different things. I remember when i was in school, a lot of people told me to stay in school, but who is the one that is going to take action to make sure they actually have safe transportation to and from school, books to take home and read, etc. That is the question. Master P is actually providing a way to help by building the youth centers. I'm not saying that jim, juelz, and lil' mama are wrong, because they are not. just something to think about. who is the one that will put their life on the line to make a change?
