This is going to be common for years to come. You can have a relatively positive message, but the stereotype of Hip Hop is fueled by the gangster messages because of the capitalist implications of what does or does not sell.

Hip Hop as a "culture" lacks consensus. When the corporate media and their owners (the same people that distribute all musical genres) judge the accessibility and availability of a record or artist they judge by sales. KRS-One was correct when he said that record sales does not determine the consensus of Hip Hop culture because Hip Hop culture lacks a consensus.

Since that is the case in the mainstream people are subjected to the primarily negative perception that the viability of a record must be judged by its sales and popularity not content or quality. 50 Cent is a great example because that fool endorsed the view that he just wants to sell records so he would talk about killing kitty cats if it boosted his sales.

It is difficult to combat the stereotypes when every major selling rapper is a walking talking STEREOTYPE. 50 is a poster boy for the media and everything negatively associated with Hip Hop all day long because he is a walking talking sound bite. After losing the first week sales to Kanye, the boys at Interscope probably told him to shut up, the same way they told him he was over saturating the market when he wanted to keep doing appearances and dry hooks on all G-Unit artists songs.

Or lets say games like the Halo trilogy. or images of killing and gun violence produced by every news channel in america. why it gotta be hip hop or black america. FUCK im tired of this shit.
